You'd think it wouldn't be that bad given those cons are within the state.

I mean, Virginia cons aint anything to write home about, but they're usually decent from what I've seen. Omega just looks like a piddly first-year one, and has looked like one for three years in a row now from what I can tell from pictures.

It is a small town con to start with. I suppose those holding it in a college town like Charlottesville seem idea despite being such a young con (my town only started to see such a con at the start of the decade). Chris simply doesn't have perception.

Than again, I can probably easily win some brownie points if I take pictures of him.

I think that was the condition he accepted by pleading guilty to not be stuck with felony on record. It never went to jury.

I don't know enough about cons to talk about how large it is based on pictures, but apparently they have some delicious cakes.

In Omegacon's defense it's only on its 4th year. Magfest was close to this size about their 4th year too, but blew up to what it is now. Personally, I had fun because it's definitely more intimate (oooh, sexy) but I also know a bunch of people. Now, Madicon is absolutely abysmal because they're on their like 14th year and have 200 people tops. I still go because it's cheap and something to do for the day. They managed tricking Jon St. John into guesting one year by making it seem they were this big con.

Sorry for off-topic. Just defending the honor of Omegacon. :P Though I will say I avoided the dealers room for a while until the hotel fixed their circulation issue because that room smelled the worst, so that could explain the lack of people in there.

Must not be a very good college town if they couldn't slide Christian through in under 5 years.

But then, it's up to the individual themselves to be motivated to finish up, so it's not their fault.

Still, though, why would OmegaCon think college kids have money to go to cons?

College towns have nothing to do with the college, so I don't know what you mean by not being a good college town.

Because weeaboos spend money on crappy animu merch.

I should point out Chris went to a 2 year community college, not something on the scale like the University of Virginia which I'm sure gets people from all over attending that place.

You made Mr StJohn sound like a big deal so I had to google the dude. I know nothing about cartoons or indeed most of the shit Chris is into. Are cartoon voice actors that big a deal nowadays then??!

They can be. Depends on the show.
Like, H. Jon Benjamin who voices Bob from Bob's Burger's and Archer from Archer could fetch a pretty penny and draw a crowd.

Omegacon is closer to an elaborate farmer's market than your usual nerd convention. It's like a few hundred people in the woods playing games, but they're not even drunk when they do it. So like, what's the point?

Jon St John is too important to go to Omegacon, relatively speaking. You generally want him to come to your con, not because of whatever he'll say at any panels, but just because he's great to party with.

But as noted above, there are no parties at Omegacon.

(I mean, not to rag on them or anything. Maybe it'll get better over time. But it's really not worth it to drag yourself out into the woods for Omegacon right now.)
