He last saw her when she was, what, 6 or 8 or something and now she's an adult and yet not old and withered. No fruit bullshit is needed here.
I know about this, my point is that something feels missing about Brook's description of events in Thriller Bark.

He's also nowhere near as strong and hasn't demonstrated his super swordsman skills as a Rumbar. Even as a Straw Hat it felt like his skillset is completely swapped with something else.

What are you talking about?
Oda has shown an image of the crew as envisioned in his childhood, it featured all 9 Strawhats, though some were very different, with the exception of Robin- who he added to the crew seemingly after her original creation early in the Grand Line era. But in her place was a weird little flying monster guy with the same job description but every other detail changed. A lot of his personality was given to Chopper, who was originally envisioned as more of a bitter asshole (so, somewhat similar to Loki.)

We never really saw the Rumbar fight, Captain (presumably the strongest) got Grand Line Aids, then after that the crew got poisoned and then lost in the Triangle.

Nothing they really lost to was a direct strength matter.

I suspect that they ran into some Holy Knights trying to pull a hit on Brook, with one of them having the Disease fruit and another with the Film fruit, so for the Rumbars it's just like they got hit by an incurable Illness out of nowhere.

Possible but I think the important part of Gunko is going to happen as a part of the kingdom falls, Brook did call Gunko "A Father Murderer"
