Watch as Garp is Dragon’s inside man the entire time.
I wouldn't say that but I'm betting their end goals are more similar then what has been let on. I'm betting Sword will be it's own faction in the big final battle and that they'll team up with the RA to fight the WG. We might even get a Koby and Sabo team up.

these chapters about rocks have made it feel like roger just kinda stumbled into being king of the pirates.
It’s more learning about someone before they became a legend. He’s getting a call to action, possibly his Enies Lobby and Marineford is God Valley. This is Roger as before he was the Pirate King and big man on the block. Basically everyone in this flashback is not really as they were in the present. Kaido isn’t a suicidal alcoholic and Big Mom isn’t an obese (term for woman who fucks everything)-shark.

It’s intentional like how Rocks was presented as a scum bag, but is honestly a fairly decent guy considering the world he inhabits. This isn’t the Roger who is dying and trying to reach the Grandline. That Roger comes after God Valley and it’s likely the point.

Isn’t that basically what happened though? Roger’s whole thing was “incurable illness, one last trip through the Grand Line, learns Laugh Tale is a thing, finds The One Piece, gets declared pirate king, finds he’s “too early", turns himself in, Roger is executed and the Great Pirate Era begins”.

I thought it was well established that Roger is a proto Luffy: he just does whatever he wants and any big developments in regards to the lore happen without Roger actively trying to make those developments happen.

I am divided on garling's characterization. I am starting to agree with that Mr. B guy that was here a while back. On some level as Oda really wants to push the idea that the celestial dragons are bad. We can't just have it that Garling is a complicit perpetator of the huntinng contest, he has to stab the woman he married and have her be an award forthe contest. On the otherhand, it makes sense. As we reach the end of the story, the reader needs a good and set justification for why the world government is bad and why it needs to be overthrown.

It's just simple demystifying (which also further romanticizes the characters). Roger was never the Pirate Superman he's been venerated as throughout the story. Ever since Ace's backstory, we've known this. Hell, even before that! This entire flashback has done the most to highlight Roger's vulnerabilities and humanity by showing him when he's on everyone's level (despite Rocks having a claim to the era back then).

Less about Roger though, subordinate Whitebeard has been great to see so far.

I have to wonder if God Valley will be like Marineford for Roger, with Shakky being in the role Ace had, and Whitebeard will be like Jinbe where he gets Roger out of his depression and self loathing and gets Roger to think about what he DOES have: his friends.

Soooo was Roger going by Gol D. Roger before God Valley, or was he pulling a Xebec in hiding his name?
I don't think Roger ever tried to hide his name. If anything, the government hid his name and Roger just decided to roll with it.

How are Page one and Ulti eating with their masks on?
i have a feeling the celestial dragons are all being lied to and have been for a very very long time and those lies resulted in most of them just being terrible people. they are all most likely also slaves that fail to realize they are slaves because they have been taught that things like nika and joy boy or people with the will of d are going to be the end of them when in reality they are just higher class slaves much like the navy used to do the bidding of imu.
They are useful idiots. They make for a very visible, very hate-able distraction from the real wielder of power

Garp and SWORD being Revolutionary marines would be pretty cool
Garp's Plan is and always has been a military coup.

He did, he was declared King of the Pirates he didnt declare himself King and his final journey was a "fuck it i am dying" adventure

And now all that's left is or Imu to be revealed to the masses. Or at least the machinations of Imu because there's a good chance Luffy will just wreck shit before Imu can be personally exposed, even if it's underwater or buried under a pile of rubble.

And now the question becomes "was there anything more to that final journey?" Personally, I doubt it.

It's Eiichiro Oda. I don't think there's a point in questioning it. I think JoJo's Bizarre Adventure makes more sense than One Piece sometimes.

Think the ongoing debate I see with users here is some referring Davy Jones to Joyboy but I think Joyboy and Davy Jones were rivals 800 years ago. I believe Zunesha and Imu might be the only ones that have lived around the void century.

Tekking101 mentions this theory in the recent chapter review. I forgot that Oda's original idea for One Piece when he was working on it was for there to be two types of pirates: Peace Mains and Morganeers. It's looking likely this may be him revisiting that old concept.

Damn, Garling might be a worse father than Judge. On a lighter note, today is Crocodile's birthday, so I get to share this song again!

i could see davy jones being the blackbeard/rocks to joyboys luffy/roger maybe time really is just repeating itself over and over again with different versions of the same people until the right series of events happens.

I forget which youtube faggot I was watching but they also thought this just through the lens of naruto and whatever Japanese mythology they share and Oda is friends with the author of naruto and they used to talk apparently

Every time I hear Naruto and One Piece in the same sentence, I have to do a double take because of how the story of Naruto seemed to completely fall apart. Luffy already said Gear 5 was his peak, so hopefully that means there's going to be no more gratuitous upgrades. Right?
