Every time I hear Naruto and One Piece in the same sentence, I have to do a double take because of how the story of Naruto seemed to completely fall apart. Luffy already said Gear 5 was his peak, so hopefully that means there's going to be no more gratuitous upgrades. Right?
maybe he'll learn how to use his fruit better. Or some other haki techniques.

Gear 8 10000k rpm

The naruto comparison was the kaguya, great sage then reincarnation into two different people rinse and repeat. The issue with Naruto was the sudden reveal of kaguya without any setup. One Piece has kinda set that up better if that is what its going for

All One Piece has done in terms of setup is have it where the sun god Nika had rubber man powers, then Joy Boy had those same powers, then Luffy got those powers after eating his devil fruit, and the connection manifested after entering Gear 5. So all that’s left is to explain how that happened, along with what unfinished business Joy Boy started that Luffy is slated to finish, like the Fishman Island promise, or what Nika is destined to do, as as was shown in the Elbaf mural, and how that relates to anything Luffy ends up doing.

Dammit, the guy at work with whom I talk about One Piece is having a kid or something so it’s going to be like a month or more before I have anyone to talk about this with, and by then the hype will have been replaced with some other major revelation Oda is apparently dropping every third chapter this arc.

Don’t you love that about One Piece?

Gear 5 didn't come out of nowhere since the progression of Gears was already in motion a while ago plus Luffy didn't get a piece of power from nearly everyone he meets like Naruto. I don't listen to animtubers because they always view every shounen the same. They are expected characters to unlock their super ultra mega god power and fight the super ultra mega villain at the end in a climatic overly animated battle. They just want the same type of fight in everything they watch and cry about "pacing" when they don't see a light show every few episodes. But that is just me being slightly MATI at powerscalers.

Gear 5 being Nika is functionally no different than what it would have been if The Gum Gum Fruit were real and Luffy had it.

Doffy turned everything around him to string...Luffy makes reality rubber.

If anything, Oda did a good job of making every new gear feel like a big deal. Didn’t folks compare Gear 5 to Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time?

Don’t we get that though? With the likes of Luffy fighting Doflamingo and Kaido, among others? If anything, the real bucking of trends was Gear 5 being all about Luffy being a cartoon character acting carefree and happy in his ultimate form instead of the typical anime model of the ultimate form being driven by anger/righteous fury to kick the ass of the villain six ways to Sunday (which seemed like what was going on with Luffy in Gear 4, and maybe even all the way back in Gear Second at Enies Lobby).

Isn’t that the point? The only thing that changed is that Luffy can access Gear 5 which is literal god powers, which was also used by a figure from a kingdom that is such a threat to the government, the NAME of said kingdom is enough to enact a massive censorship campaign, alongside destroying an entire island of people studying that which is deemed forbidden knowledge. And that censorship has extended to a fruit that was stolen by a pirate who knows what the fruit really is, and probably had plans involving said fruit that did involve it being eaten by some stubborn kid.

All that’s left to get to the REAL story of the devil fruit, which is another thing that Oda is most likely saving for the endgame because of how it connects to Luffy which connects it to many other things Luffy is connected to.

I don't even remember what happens in Gear 3 and the only thing I remember about Gear 4 is that it looks retarded.

Gear 2 is peak and I'd like Gear 5 a lot more if the anime wasn't so obnoxious with the constant laughing and cartoon sound effects.

Luffy makes reality rubber.
Rubber hose animation, that is.

You just know Oda is waiting for the perfect moment for a skeleton dance homage.

every transformation in a shounen gets compared to super saiyan at one point. There's vague similarities and it isn't a secret that Oda is heavily inspired by Dragon ball but Luffy's Gears don't work like super saiyan forms.

He used Gear 3 against Lucci for the first time where he blows on his thumb to inflate his bone structure. Before he gained control over it he would deflate and become tiny.

You know what I find fascinating?
How many people are taking the the main WG narrative about God Valley fully at face value.

At this point, we know there was a lot more that went down at God Valley then initially let on.
Nothing happened at God Valley. In fact, God Valley doesn't exist. I don't know what we're talking about. Why did you bring up this made up island you just made up? I'm calling the Elders.

Pretty much, I consider it a given now that everything we know about God Valley is propaganda outside of what we got from Kuma's flashback.

The initial God Valley reveal was from sengoku right? Who also wasn't there if I recall, so it's a parroted 3rd hand account of what happened from unreliable narrators I don't think you're supposed to take away anything besides some things happened that got rocks involved then roger shows up and garp follows roger and rocks loses

And now we wait for when the truth gets revealed to the general public characters.

To be fair what we were told is "Human hunt turned into a cluster fuck and Garp/Roger killed rocks"

Even if that ends up being a lie, they still killed our boy
