Q. What was the arc's villain's reaction to children walking over a cliff to their death?
A. Maniacal laughter.

Ah so you’re inflicted with generally poor reading. It’s one thing to laugh when you believe children are in danger, it’s another to do so when you’re magically compelled while also knowing for a fact said danger is a non-issue. Your inability to parse character motivations that aren’t explicitly spelled out for you by either narrative or genre convention has been noted.

I hate all the gears except gear 2.
Then why even bother being involved with the series at all? It’s been twenty fucking years since Enies Lobby and Oda has only ever doubled-down on the silly powers.

Or laughing at the fact that a bunch of people just fell out of a hole in the sky that just appeared at random.

Just because I think Luffy's transformations are garbage doesn't mean I don't enjoy other aspects of the series.

Gear 5, Nika, somewhat invalidates Luffys achievements in inventing Gears 2-4 to save what he values most (besides freedom), his friends. Just makes One Piece, in my opinion, aChosen One -type story.
It really doesn’t, no more than becoming an Emperor retroactively invalidates his achievements. Everything Luffy did was still within his capabilities, that he succeeds because he’s Luffy rather than because he’s Nika.

Just because I think Luffy's transformations are garbage doesn't mean I don't enjoy other aspects of the series.
Again, this goes back to people levying criticism because the series isn’t what they erroneously thought it would be; continuously bitching about the series because that is more emotionally rewarding than just dropping the damn thing outright.

At least Luffy doesn’t know of his role? That or doesn’t give a shit?

Okay so Nika's powers largely run off laughter right?
It is also pretty well known that Roger, knowing EVERYTHING clearly intended on his kid being the one to succeed him
What if Luffy eating the fruit..was actually completely unintended by even Nika, but it also could not be prevented because Nika's powers running off "The Funny"

which means both Imu and Fate got fucked by Luffy being..Luffy levels of retard..which would be the most Luffy thing.

This would also line up thematically with Ace eschewing the expectations others have for him for his own goals.

Indeed, given that one of the themes of the series is "Freedom" it would be really weird for Fate to be forcing Luffy down this path, Nor would Luffy accept it, if he were told he was a Chosen one he would very specifically refuse to do the thing.

Something I am wondering about Joy Boy. Would he go out with a boom confident that the WG will get their comeuppance after 800 years, or will he die in the most sinister, horrible sort of downfall imaginable?

Fate works in very weird ways. In this case it seems like the World Government is going to collapse by 800 years as prophesied and Luffy just happens to be the person who will do it. It's the same thing where Toki told Orochi that he will die to the Nine Red Scabbards and that's exactly what happened. Even Kanjuro did something to contribute to Orochi dying. It's hard to describe it but it seems like "Karma's due" in both the World Government and Orochi cases.

That’s for Robin to figure out and and for Luffy to laugh at, since I’ve always felt the “funny story” that made Roger and his crew laugh was about how Joy Boy was able to get the treasure on Laugh Tale. The 800 years stuff is just some stuff about how “someday somebody will come to do all these things, I’m sure of it”, which is where Luffy comes in.

I often see it as his path will line up in a different way by simply being himself. Joy Boy was about making people laugh and freeing people which is what Luffy needs without a title since he doesn't really care about those besides his main goal of being the king of the pirates. Now that I think about it Luffy would reject the path and label of being the chosen but as I said he will still be that person who wants everyone to be free to do how they please.

Stabbed in the back by Imu, perhaps.

I think he either got backstabbed by the "Blackbeard" figure at the time or had his crew Domi'ed

It's kind of clear that he got backstabbed yeah, since that is the only thing that would had been destroyed his idea of camanderie and made his Nika form very vulnerable.

My theory was that Joy Boy was the one in love with Lily and found out that she joined the World Government willingly because she didn't realize that she was taking a bum deal and Joy Boy never lives to find this out. Once Lili found out that she got tricked she refused any covenant and bailed in front of Imu and warned everyone else who is still living about it before being murdered out in the open.

luffys powers exist in the way they do because he was told he ate the gum gum fruit. he believed he was made of rubber this entire time and maybe even still does in his mind even gear 5 is just him being strong enough to be even more rubber like. its not like it was nika doing everything the whole time.

its always been luffy using the nika powers how he wants under the impression that he is still just a rubber man. its not the same as like lets say naruto knowing and accepting the entire time that he has the power of the nine tailed fox inside him.

its going to be interesting to see how luffy reacts if/when he is told everything. personally i dont think he will care.

It would depend on how it is presented to him.

If Lili is still alive and tells him the prophecy and "he has to do it because fate says so" Luffy will 100% tell her to fuck off if he gets told afterwards that he was the destined hero and did everything cause Fate said so he will be like "LOL that is stupid"

Whomever reveals the history will reveal it through Robin who will try and dumb it down for Luffy who will sum it up with “Oh, so it’s a magic boat!”

It's the most obvious thing in the world that Luffy will simply reject any "Chosen One" bullshit if it's told to him and it baffles me when people think otherwise.
