Like it or not, being on social media or stating your opinions online where anyone can see means anyone and everyone can respond however they see fit. No one is obligated to spare your feelings or adhere to your wishes, because at the end of the day, you’re just one voice among millions. Being a “well known” internet figure means even less chance of having people do what you want, because it’s just so many more eyes on you.

think it's important to note that Linkara didn't just shit himself over "harassment" if it was Oneyplays people barging into his stream and spamming "THE LIGHTBRINGER" in chat. that's one thing.

but if I recall he also shit himself over having his literal 1 second running gif used in a Jontron video.

also, how about this, Linkara can be justified about Oneyplay's fans harassing him when he stops talking shit about Doug Walker and risking his fans harassing Doug. It works both ways. if Oney is responsible for his fans, then Linkara is responsible for his too.

As true as that is, this is linkara we are talking about. Dude radiates the smug, I am more superior then you, aura. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks that stuff like this doesn't apply to him.

Thats the thing, it only works one way with spergs like linkara. Its ok if I do it but don't you dare make jokes about me or your toxic fanbase will meme on me.

Also even suggesting that oney should say something about the fans like the reddit cap up thread is extremely gay. Unless they are actively telling people to fuck with linkara there is nothing they need to do imo. Metokur had the right attitude with this, I don't control my fans and I'm not going to tell them what to do or apologise if they behave like spastics.

I wonder how much of this particular line of thinking was influenced by the developers' mother dying. After all, her death caused the ending to be retooled into something far more grim and depressing so I can see parts of the game being rewritten to reflect the developers' own negative reaction. I feel kinda sorry for them in that regard. There are cases of writers creating a dark or cynical piece of work following personal tragedies (Just as an example, Douglas Adams had a really bad year when he wrote the final Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book which in turn led to a depressing final entry in what's otherwise a goofy lighthearted series).

Not that it excuses the game from being as verbose or up its own ass or anything; at the end of the day it's still a badly written game and no amount of sympathy is gonna change that. It's just when you consider the developers' personal tragedies, the game starts to make a little more sense as to why it is the way it is.
I heard it was the other way, actually. The death of their mother made them go back and change the ending to be more optimistic and happy.

This is actually true, but the Allansons have a really weird definition of a "sad ending". I mentioned this earlier but the original ending, voice acted even, is still partially in the files of the old versions and playable. It's much more upbeat, and has Alex and Essentia talking things out after the final boss (that you can win) instead of Essentia being Alex for some reason. Also Alex says "enough of the talking" which is really fucking satisfying to hear coming from him.

And here's an archive of just the ending part of the video.

This is what I meant. They claim they made the ending more "humanistic" as a result of their mother's death, but frankly the final game's ending is shockingly grim. You can't win the final boss, the original party is wiped from existence, Alex gives up and makes the player do what he should be doing, and it ends on a darkly ambiguous note. If anything, their original ending is closer to "humanistic" because that at least ended with Alex making peace with Essentia and the game ending on a happier tone. Hell the fact that your party survives in that ending makes it feel a little more upbeat than the final game. The comments on the video you posted even say as much, with many of them commenting that this ending was far more satisfying than the actual ending.

As I said earlier, I feel as though the death of the Allansons' mother put them in a really bad headspace and resulted in an ending that is far more cynical and dark than they were intending. They can say all they want that the game's current ending was meant to be more optimistic, but it sure as hell doesn't seem that way to anyone else but them.

I don't know what it is about YIIK but there's something fascinating about the game.
It's not even that it's there's a good game underneath all the bullshit.
I can't really explain it but there's something about Yiik that makes let's play/review of the game/post on this thread more entertaining and digestable that they should be.

I saw it best summed up somewhere that I can't remember, it was something to the effect of:
"YIIK is such a mess that every single person who experiences it ends up finding something new to dislike about it."

My first exposure to YIIK was its creator on TDS bitching about gamers not understanding the intricate machinations that is his enigma. If your head is so far up your own ass that I can smell the shit on your breath through a podcast, there's no way in hell I'm playing your game. Then Running Shine did a good video on it.

Now the writing's back to being awful in an amusing way instead of a dull tedious way! I thought Ulysses was bad about lecturing your player character about things they did in the backstory that you had no control over, but the way this Yuzu Imajo guy just randomly shows up in the story angry at Alex is so ridiculous and bizarre. Sure there's plenty of reasons for characters to hate Alex as is but this is one of the strangest scenes I've seen them play in this game. Such a strange performance for the guy too

Wait until it gets dumber with the “lol meme” bit between boss phases.

The boys played a highly polished sonic fangame. Midway through they take an indirect shot at game grumps by talking about how much they hate the current mentality that sonic was never good, which Arin ostensibly started.

I think Yik really does have an interesting environmental design. It could have worked if they had decided to go full on horror and make certain details different, or just have an eternal darkness twist where Alex steadily starts to go insane as more and more reality's converge. The game definitely needed better writing and focus. You really get the sense it doesn't really know what the hell it wants tonally, and instead of exploiting that disjointedness it just.... is.

When it comes to YIIK deep dives, I tend to default to two specific videos, Running Shine’s review, and Tehsnarkerer’s analysis video. Shine’s is more funny and less serious about what’s going on with the game(it’s narrative of Alex being a creepy chronic masturbater with some minor racism issues is hilarious), while Tehsnarkerer’s is much more informative and goes really in-depth about how often the game contradicts itself and more information on the developer’s mindset and such( and what really makes me dislike the developer of the game, even as I sympathize with the guy for losing his mother the way he did). I definitely enjoy both, but I can say for sure that my opinion on the game and it’s developer is mainly influenced by the later video.

So if you’re really craving a more in-depth into YIIK, those are the top videos Id recommend. I know they’ve been linked a few times before, but I figure I’d explain a little as to why they get shared.

EDIT: I should note that these videos were made before the patches to the game that changed battles and some scenes and game bits.

YIIK is a game that's fun (and easy) to hate. Reviews and LPs of it are really enjoyable since you get all the vitriol and satisfying disgust without having to suffer through it yourself.
