To be quite real, it's just TMZ shit. Outside of their stint in Oneyplays, I don't really think most people infatuated with them would either know or be drawn to either of DD's or J's content.
While it is a shame to see that potential going largely to waste because of a combination of any number of things, that's just how a lot of creatives work (or, well, don't work).

Sure, it's frustrating to see people getting lots of patreon money to produce much ado about nothing, and then to see them complain about aspects of their fandom - but it's the sort of thing you only notice if you look for it. If not for this thread, I'd have just assumed they went off to do their own things.

Maybe it's a jilted lover thing, idk. I don't really give any money to any schmuck on patreon because I don't think that's a sustainable model (especially in the era of interest rates), so maybe it's coming from 'I gave you money and you did nothing.' But for me, I just don't really get the vitriol. They're hardly unique for having occasional bouts of histrionics. Perhaps it's because the formula worked so well, it's this lingering bitterness that it had to come to an end, with morsels like the YIIK-through teasing that there could be more of that magic.

From what I remember, DingDong got doxxed and his parents found out he was bisexual and disowned him. That probably contributed to making him as bitter as he is now.

Slight correction here he was outed as full on gay not bi to his family who are religious and it was supposedly by game grump fans which is how the whole drama with them kicked off.

that would make me mad too. but if i found myself still obsessed about it 5+ years later i would try very very hard to move on. i would try therapy, microdosing, meditation... anything to let me get on with my life.

so bowlbo lost its publisher? does that mean that development had stagnated and the publisher just gave up and walked away? tbh i am not clear on the role a publisher plays in an indie game that's still under development. were they funding it? or providing programmers?

what has Albino Moose ever actually produced? the remaster(s) of spooky's jumpscare mansion?
 
I want more live streams to listen to while waging. Unedited Adam is cozy and reminds me of a few guys I used to play Arma with. What even prompted them to stream Oblivion a few weeks ago, and why haven't they done those more frequently? They're cozy and better than "here's 8 hours of clips you already have burned into your brain, just arranged in a different order"

I really like these guys. I've watched several OneyPlay's videos with them, and I especially like DingDong's contributions to the hilarity that always ensues.

Julian doesn't really have much lore beyond being in a relationship with Ding Dong.

Ding Dong however has a long history on the internet.
He was a part of thebestgamers, a review parody channel but back then he went by cousinskeeter2k3 or skeeter. They were around for a few years until they imploded due to drama i don't know about. around this time he joined Oneyplays as a regular, rebranded his name as Ding Dong and was there for a good while along with Julian. During his tenure on oneyplays he was actively stalked by someone who is assumed to be a karnivore89, a fellow member or thebestgamers. At somepoint Chris (Oney) joined the GameGrumps in some kind of partnership and things went well for a while (This is where we got stuff like doodle dudes due to the oneyplays guys having access to the GG studios) but one of GG projects was a game called 'Dream Daddy' a gay dating sim, the devs of which consulted DD&J as they were gay themselves. DD&J opinions on the game were less than favourable which caused some upset which resulted in Ding
Dong being doxed by the rabid GG fanbase and his rampant cocklust being outed to his family. The fallout results in Oneyplays splitting from GG and DD&J fleeing to somewhere else entirely. DD&J have pretty much been in the same holding pattern ever since where they resent their fanbase but also rely on them to survive and routinely seethe about it every now and again. They'll never change as they are physically incapable of lettting shit go.

Some other details about that is that, I don't recall exactly how, but Matt Watson (of Supermega and sometimes Oneyplays guest) betrayed their confidence or failed to back them up (as I write this, I seem to recall that maybe the issue was that Matt privately agreed with DD&J about the game, but then denied it and threw them under the bus); also Egoraptor withheld payment from Oneyplays during the drama, as the partnership they had was that Oney and crew could record in the GG offices, but Ego would receive the the OneyPlays money and then pay Oney after getting his cut (who would have to pay DD&J from what was left); I again remember that maybe part of it was that he conditioned the release of the payment on firing or otherwise screwing up DD&J, and Oney refused. This resulted in OneyPlays leaving the GG offices and cutting ties with them and Supermega (presumably, Oney heard from DD&J about the Matt stuff).
IIRC, DD&J didn't leave immediately after this, but eventually they did and the cast changed from Oney + DD&J + guests sometimes to Oney + a combination of Tomar/Zach/Lyle + guests sometimes.
Things with DD&J seemed to be going alright for a time, but a little while after OneyStays (when they visited Oney -or did Oney visit them?- for a while and recorded a lot of videos), DD started sperging about the old Dream Daddies drama, revealed things like Ego withholding Oney's pay and so on, and also (whether he did it in a sincere attempt at rebuilding bridges, or as a passive aggressive gesture) Matt sent a donation during a DD stream, which DD insisted on refunding out of butthurt pride, which due to the platform's processing fees ended up costing them extra money.

After that, DD and sometimes Julian have continued to overshare in spergy streams, which they then usually delete, and their mental health seems to have deteriorated as far as we can see in each subsequent stream.

You can't reverse the thickening of age, son. If you want to truly understand it, look at Orlando Bloom in LOTR and Pirates 1-3, vs Orlando Bloom in The Hobbit and Pirates 5. He's just as in shape, and the makeup covers the blemishes of age; but they can't hide the widening of the self.
 
Is it bad that every time Niall is on Oneyplays, I'm instantly reminded that Ireland has the highest rate of fetal alcohol syndrome in the world? Cory is stupid, but you can tell he's at least trying and has a grasp of his limitations while Niall is just a whole 'nother level of retarded.

To be fair to Ding Dong, he was the brains behind the hilarity of TheBestGamers, especially as video editor.

And I think Julian is genuinely a talented artist/animator.

I just wish they'd put out absolutely anything, game-wise, to at least have SOMETHING to show for the years of development hell.

This is such a weird take. Niall's obviously not like a super smart dude but comparing him to Cory is nonsensical. Adam is the only dude who comes close to his level.

for real. i want them to succeed. i quit watching DD's streams because they were making me dislike him, but if any of you maniacs are still keeping up, is there further news of the surprise rhythm game that was "basically complete" however many months ago?

Last I heard the main thing that's delaying the game is licensing for the music, if I remember correctly he wanted licenses that wouldn't expire and take the game (or part of its content) down with it. This was in a DD stream around April, but because he doesn't keep archives of his minor streams that's basically gone and I can't confirm that with a clip.
He's also working on a game awards video and "summer resort web game", the latter of which he posted a teaser for on twitter [archive].


Optimistically, I feel like this is the year they'll actually release something. But it's just as likely that they'll disappear from the Internet again and come back with a new project that they'll start and leave in development hell.
