I think Lyle and Tomar are like tofu. Pretty inoffensive, good as long as what they're put in is good. Occasional funny lines but mostly nothing special.
It made me laugh when Chris was saying something had two somethings of hair and Lyle immediately said "now we're talking!" or some other Guptill quote.

Oh yeah, and I also liked Mr. Man on smiling friends and have actually quoted him before. Thought he was a funny (and racist, based) guy.

Chris has become a really bitter asshole these last few years and I think that's the primary ingredient. He's getting old, he knows he's getting old, and he obviously thinks playing video games for money is beneath him. I don't think it's a coincidence that half of all the main channel uploads are compilations of older clips from back when he still cared. I also think he's noticed that videos with Zach or Tomar in them get far more views than the vids without.

I'm honestly impressed that OneyPlays has avoided going the route of Game Grumps or Two Best Friends Play and haven't had a violent breakup. I wonder if that's due to a much greater apathy towards the brand than their competitors. It's always felt like the actual videos were secondary to merch sales and compilations.
 
Ultimately I blame Veronica for Chris' apathy. A bad breakup with a girl you thought you loved can really ruin a person. Add that to his constant back issues and I just don't blame the guy for not giving a shit.

I think the channel is slowly crawling to it's death, the fact that they have a manager speaks volumes to how estranged the channel is from it's creator. Not to mention how clickbait-y and corporified the channel has become this year, and the constant bottom of the barrel compilations. The truth is, everyone who was important to the channel are gone, too busy to work on a Let's Play channel or so checked out they might as well not be there at all. I genuinely think the channel needs to die at this point. They need to take their own advice and let a good thing die before it becomes shallow and joyless to work on.

Speaking of Veronica, is she still dating that manchild who reviews children's cartoons for a living?

There's room in the canoe, phil. Lyle was at his best when you could say anything on youtube. He has had to tone down his original shockjock style in favor of xavier renegade angel style surrealism. Go listen to any episode of his old podcast swaggalaggin vs modern oneyplays. The podcast episode with zach, lyle, and phil is an interesting comparison. I think to a degree lyle is preforming because a glimmer of the old troll lyle does appear every once and a while. He's one of the few cases of someone who has been able to string his way across Internet jobs since the early machinima days.

I always thought it was explicit that oneyplays exists to make money and nothing else. None of the members have ever wanted to be let's players. Chris, zach, and lyle were always very open they hated let's plays because they think they are lazy. Dingdong and julian were basically the same and have no desire to be associated with the idea. Tomar was basically successful before he was part of it. Everyone else vaguely orbits chris due to being in his ireland or newgrounds friends circle. I can only assume the channel still exists so chris can fund bowlbo at this point. There's benefits and issues to the cynicism that created oneyplays. Grit your teeth at the thousands of tomar emeralds joke so we can sell shirts.

Beside tomar, I think it is starting to hit everyone they're no longer young men. They don't really have the desire to fuck around anymore. The desire to fully establish themselves is probably hitting hard. Cory may continue like he is until he dies though.

Chris has talked about his back pain and how it makes recording shit for hours miserable for him multiple times on the channel. If you're wondering why he seems more angry and disinterested that's why. Dude is in constant pain. He's even said he has to record lying down because his back hurts so much. I really don't think it has to do with him getting older or being sick of it.
 
i absolutely hate the overanalysis of oneyplays "cast" memebrs - theyve made fun of it on the channel in fact - but i will implore lyle haters to watch the spiderman 2 playthru again. shit's hilarious because lyle makes a good middleman between two autismos. i love when he bombs slightly and they make fun of him for it

Cory and Adam are probably good choices for lets plays, because Cory at 17 and Cory at 57 are the same person and will never grow or change, and Adam is a relatively fresh spring to draw from with the added benefit that Cory and Adam (in my opinion) bounce off each other very well. I think Zach and Lyle have the emotional maturity (Not being literal faggots) to at least keep up appearances even if they secretly hate Oney Plays, famously Lyle endured nearly a decade of work with Dexter Manning, while Cory had a very public break up with Machinima).

The spiderman 2 playthrough is so good dude. Easily top 3 material along with Witch hunt and Hitman 2. Spooky jump scare mansion, Donkey Kong country, the super ancient rugrats game with Niall and Yiik are also great.

they're married now. They got married half way through that one trip they took AFTER breaking up lol. Shits sad.

Animation is something that supposedly takes DingDong just a few days, he whipped out the G4 Needs Talent video in less than 3 days for instance, so whatever he's working on here shouldn't be a big detour on whatever he's working on.

But, you two are pretty right that if he can have these bursts of productivity he should prioritize what he started. There's Bippy, the Summer Resort Game, and the rhythm game he started on an impulse (which seemingly had a finished engine in a few months) is a pretty full plate. Going off of what he says on stream he's been contracted to help out for a couple of games in the last three years too.

What you can see a lot when it comes to adult games and Patreon projects is the author will take ages to finish it and drip feed contact to make sure there's long term support. I do hope that's not the strategy DingDong and Julian are going with as in the long-long term it's a better look to keep pumping out projects and they wont have several projects weighing down on their mind (and public perception).

One thought about his silence on Bippy is sometimes development updates just ironing out bugs aren't all that exciting and come off as boring or a nothing burger to announce. That happened to Omori a ton while it was in development for instance, but DingDong arguably has less excuses to take longer than Omocat who's not a game dev. Hard to judge without knowing every detail of what's going on - but here's hoping he delivers as that's the best outcome for everyone.
 
I'm gonna throw out my own gay and autistic theory that confirms all my biases, and say that Chris is seeming more bitter and jaded these last few years because he has to put up with FUCKING CORY so much now.

I know that usually puts me in a worse mood.

He doesn't have to, he could very well kick Cory's ass to the curb if he wanted to. I doubt too many fans would get upset.
 
Guys, enough about Lyle. I think we can all agree he should be replaced by me. All the videos im in would get 1 million views, only positive feedback, and i'd be the funniest too.
