The "misunderstanding why people enjoyed it" thing is so common, I was literally just talking about one of my favorite old machinima series with a coworker about how great it was that whoever made it sounded like he was huddled over his shitty microphone with a blanket over his head so mom and dad wouldn't hear him almost-scream swear words:
However, at some point he went back and updated the series with re-recorded lines with a better microphone and higher quality video and it's like - bro, I see what you're doing, but we didn't love it because of the story you told, we loved it because of how shitty it was knowing any one of our friends could have made that.
It was attainable and hilarious and retarded, and there's no reason it needs redone as though it will be funnier the second time with better voice acting. Birdemic is the same way. The retarded story worked because of how bad the production and acting was while still being a sincere attempt.
