RPGs have historically been a death pit of entertainment for let's players because it's just reading, slowed down combat, and grinding. There has to be a unique angle to keep people engaged through hours of padding text boxes. I remember SBFP fans making it a meme how bad their RPG let's plays, like Chrono Trigger and Pokemon were.
Their Pokémon let's plays a great though. Red with Jules and DD is a bit annoying when Matt Watson butts in for a couple of episodes and when DD takes the game a bit too seriously but they had fun conversations and lots of shitty jokes. Silver with Tomar, Cory and Zach is full on spergery for two hours. But you're right, the only reading game we allow in this oney household is the PHUCKER IN THE ASHES series.

The episode drought has led me to discover a Sleepy Cabin spinoff known as Three Hot Guys. It only lasted three episodes, but it starred Niall, Jeff, and Stamper, with appearances from Zack, Cory, and Veronica.

The fact that Jeff is probably the best of the three tells you the quality as Niall can't hold a conversation to save his fucking life and that gets worse the second he starts drinking or doing the weeds, and Stamper is an aggressive drunk that may or may not be high on meth. The fact that it was over Discord so audio problems abound didn't help either, but there were definitely some good moments to be had. Give it a watch.

Alternately, a little editing goes a long way, so here's a version I cobbled together that gets rid of most of the useless bullshit and uninteresting topics. Hopefully it will tide everyone over until we start getting episodes again.

The issue is that Niall just isn't interesting or charismatic enough to base a whole podcast around. I've been listening to this guy for years and I still don't know how to describe him. He's just sort of a depressed dude.

He's the kind of guy to fall flat on his face and just stay there

Niall is kinda just the worthless coattail rider of the crew that everyone pseudo-bullies but I love him anyway. Like he doesn't really have much talent to offer and seems to fail with basic tasks sometimes but he's a loveable oaf and I enjoy him.

He seems to be completely aimless and just going with the flow in life and I can relate to that. Prior to Sleepycabin he said he was studying to be a doctor, then he dropped out to move to Philly with the boys during the Sleepycabin days. He even tried to make an animation to fit in with the rest of them, it wasn't very good.

After that in an interview from another channel he mentions that he went to college back in Ireland to learn computer science and AI but that didn't seem to go anywhere either.

On the topic of Sleepycabin replacements, this channel has a few other videos you might like. He's interviewed a fair number of other former Sleepycabin members. I recommend the Stamper one because he and the interviewer seem to be on the same wavelength. It goes on for a while and veers into that freeform style of conversation that Sleepycabin had back in the day, even if it does meander a little.

If anyone cares I might make another post with more effort put into it that features a bunch of Sleepycabin adjacent/related content to hold you over until our boys start posting some more high-quality slop again.

Not to ruin your evening or anything but Smiling Friends is done (unless Zach and Michael wanna come back to it in the future). Glad they're closing up shop on a high note instead of just drawing it out forever. They hit the Pentagon etc. etc.

Big takeaway is that AS has left the door open if they ever wanna come back to work on more, and there's two more episodes airing April 11th that are not finales but just additional episodes that had finished production last year. The last two episodes are still technically part of Season 3. This is not a promise to return for more later, it's just an option if they ever feel like it.

This is unfortunate but I'm not totally against it. I enjoyed S3 but it did feel like the general trajectory of the show was trending downward so maybe it's for the best to quit while they're ahead. And yeah, if this means more Zach (and maybe Michael?) on Oneplays then that's a plus. If Zach has time to get off his gilded throne and leave his ivory tower that is.

That means Zach will be in more episodes right? ...What do you mean you want to focus on having a family...?

I have mixed feelings about this. It seems a little short-sighted to have your show renewed for two more seasons and then go just kidding, we're done actually. I appreciate the decision from a creative standpoint but it definitely feels like the side-effect of being an Internet Person and being used to just abandoning stuff when you don't care about it anymore. Their staff is all going to have to look for new work now, when they were probably expecting another couple years of steady work. Also they produced about 4 hours worth of content in the past 4 years and they're making it sound grueling, most productions do far more in less time. I don't think they're shitty people, I just wonder if this is the right decision. Either way I'm hoping we get more Zach on Oneyplays, I was recently rewatching their Visage LP and it is packed with classic moments.

All these theories are wrong. Zach just wants more time to jackhammer his big-titty, asian wife up and down and up and down on his cock all day. The show’s been getting in the way of that.

I might be misremembering, but they (Zach and Michael) have been vocal about making sure they'd stop a show before it got simpson levels of bad (keeping a series going without the soul it once had) and could have mentioned realistically wanting to end their show at maybe season 3.

They've most likely were going to get their show swept from under the rug by execs who wanted to be more hands on and soil whatever they could. It is kinda fucked on their end to just throw in the towel though after agreeing to renew.

Honestly I'm happy it's ending. Plenty of things aren't meant to go on forever. Spark the Electric Jester 3 would be perfect to end at 3 but Feperd wants to continue, which fucking sucks. It's good that Zach and Michael are choosing to let something this successful go instead of choking the life out of it like so many creators tend to do.
