The troons are using licenses as an attack vector, there is zero chance that if a license to a desirable target was adversarial that they would respect it.

If they received any significant pushback, they’d create some kind of stink about license legality that would lead to the usual suspects throwing their weight around to force a handful of licenses or even trannyCoCs down the throats of the broader community.

I’m extremely blackpilled. It almost seems like ARR is the only way to actually have some measure of control over how projects end up.

The people currently publicising their own forks of Godot are probably former contributors who smelt blood on the water and tried to gain internet relevance out of biting the original's neck, I don't expect them to hold up until they are able to better the engine, you know how these people act.
The only case where I see any Godot fork work is if a team works on the background sufficiently until they can release it to the public.

Besides that though, it offers people (i use that word extremely loosely as i consider them barely human) a place to exert power and moderate, group-up and try force decisions (etc). Whenever I've used Godot I've always used the C# binding (which is pretty shit) so I can't speak to the quality of GDscript, but the decision to not only make your own engine, but also make you own programming language and your own IDE seems to me like a major case of misprioritization. I understand it's probably a fun project if you like to tinker with that kind of thing, but if the goal is to make an easy to use game engine I think it's frankly a retarded quest to embark on, just like it's retarded they've decided to build their own shitty physics engine. It makes the community extremely reliant on a few core people to maintain it though which I think is what they really want (because they are those core people).

If I recall correctly from their home page they really wanted to put emphasis into Godot being "all-in-one" software that has "all the software you need for game development", specifically targeting portable platforms, mainly mobile, they even had a big banner with an image of the editor being displayed on a device's screen. Because for some fucking reason, someone's totes going to make a video game in their phone.
The fact that there's nobody within their project or anybody with a strong voice that can reach far and wide, to at least to put out some criticism about this retarded decision baffles me, but its all part of their positive toxicity, can't complain about bad management because that'd be heckin' problematic.
About GDscript, from what I remember its reasoning was somewhat similar: we must do a dialect of python because python-as-is is not good enough, but using some other kind of language would be a bad idea because then we'd have to deal with the decisions of other companies and we must have everything in-house.

They are just retarded. Everyone's fucking retarded. The engine is built on retardation. Any fork that doesn't go out of their way and just throws the whole house off the window will go nowhere as bad design is just embedded within Godot's core.

A majority of the contributors to F/OSS, especially the "exciting" kind dealing with current year library bloat in flavor of the year language, are going to be terminally online, degenerate freaks who treat code repositories and the adjacent Discord as their "home". When those are the people contributing code to your project, what control are you talking about? Licenses and codes-of-whatever are more suggestions, considering how international the software development community is. Once the code is out there, it's very easy to rehost it in a jurisdiction you won't be able to touch without serious fuck-you money as a last resort.

It's kind of blackpilling in a general decay kind of sense, but it will implode with time. Meanwhile, aside from said library bloat and that one Ukrainian guy putting code checks against Russian IPs, there haven't been any actively detrimental effects from using pozzed software. As an example to do with Godot, nothing prevents you from making a game in Godot mocking their tranny devs. Most of these kinds of problems affect project leaders and their leading developers. If you don't want to rely on alphabet people programs too much, just use boring software that doesn't plug into the whole "interconnected with Google Bullshit, deploys to a gorillion platforms" paradigm.

Open source projects should all have a license stipulation: if your company makes more than a million dollars a year, you must negotiate a license agreement for offering or using the software. I love the idea of open source, but people have to eat. Most cool open source projects aren't made by microsoft employees in their spare open source work time

My only beef on licenses is when someone starts arguing GPL and copyleft friends are not open and free while plugging BSD or CDDL. I have to admit that when it first released, I did try it and it was quite interesting to see what it able to do on ARM Macs. Granted with the retardation the dev is using with the vtuber shtick, and the wedding of the vtube avatar with whatever else bullshit; has made me want to avoid it like the plague. I do remember hearing about other ARM Mac ports too, but it appears that they unfortunately might be related to the Asahi project.

Just because they are not actively fucking Linux desktop end users directly, that does not mean they are being "friendly" to open source. They acquired GitHub, started contributing to a bunch of open source projects, spun a few out with CLAs, probably contributed to "CLAs" being a thing... I think they want to *own* open source.

The main beef with Linux they had is that it ate a bit of Windows' market share. Now, I don't think they care about that at all. They're a services company. A "source available" type model may them fine, but they will definitely still view smaller, less bloated community projects as competition.

FOSS zealots definitely get on their soapbox about dumb shit, but this is one instance where I actually more or less agree with them.
