Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

Any fucking why does this dumbass have all of her PHP broken up into four separate files which she moves between by using header()?
Surely because that's how the sample she copied worked. Do you really think she knows what an HTTP redirect is, or would come up with the idea of using one?

lol it's goto for the 21st century

I'm just imagining some comp sci professor finally feeling relieved knowing that few languages include gotos nowadays. And then out pops Randi Harper to shatter his dreams.

But they all do, they just abstract it away.
And Goto still does have a use in some languages to break out of/continue multilevel loops.
Hilariously, PHP is not one of them, it has the break #/continue # syntax to allow you to specify how many loops you want to break/continue, so there is really no good reason to be doing this.

The concept of jumping around in code is fine. It should just be principled. Like try/catch or break or things like that. The more cues you give the programmers who come after you the better. And the best cues are compiler enforced.

Well, y'know, I get the impression that the section of the brain that helps with handling multiple levels of abstraction at the same time is somewhat underdeveloped in Randi.

So she thinks "website" and then stutters for a few minutes "uhh uhh fuck... redirect! that's it, great, problem solved!"

Marak is still refusing to update faker.js because of the Ashley Williams/NodeJS CoC.

A pretty popular cheatsheet for Firefox configuration just got this update.

I've been watching the NodeJS meeting streams and after passively listening to about 5 of them, it's the most do-nothing shit ever. I guess I already said this before, but it's amazing how little they do. The same issues get delayed time and time again. The reality is no one can make hard decisions because it's all a corporate cover-your-ass bureaucracy fest.

For example they want to start a "mentorship program" and they just had a whole session about how they are scared that putting people in contact with each other might result in potentially "dangerous situations". To mitigate this they need to make sure that all mentorship communication happens in a public group setting. No small groups, no voice chat, and only official (already moderated) channels of communication, which seems to preclude Slack due to lack of manpower.

The result of this is all mentorship/training needs to happen via GitHub issues so they can easily be moderated. Additionally their current mentor roster is full of inexperienced orbiters, and even worse all of them are men. Fortunately one of the meeting attendants had secured a token women to be involved (on paper).
Check out how much this guy says "Uhm".

In other news Olivia (aka "oe" aka "pup") has left the CommComm due to time constraints, but still wants to be part of the behind-closed-doors in-person "diversity clarification" meeting.

Ruby on Rails is fixing important bugs, like gender terms in example files.

So who is this developer who petitioned for this?

Why do natural women get BTFO by trannies every time? They seriously need to step up their game.
As someone who's lurked "nerd" groups on the internet one thing I've noticed is that women never seem to be interested in tech besides surface level stuff like playing Candy Crush on an iPhone. Most of the time when I see women in those groups they're always trans women.

You also have businesses giving additional benefits to women thanks to the whole "women in tech" push, and it just so happens that they'll give them to men who cut their dick off and do hormones too.

I've also noticed the Nintendo hacking scene tends to attract a lot of trannies, the 3ds scene had some trannies and drama too.

Funny you mention that though because Fail0verflow's switch exploit (for Linux) got released first, and the comment on wololo (homebrew news site) sums it up:

This reminds of some comments some butthurt coder who looks like a member of the soyboy crowd sent me recently over my Medium piece tearing Coraline Ade Ehmke's CoC a new bunghole:

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/no-theyre-not-4fee95dd03d6

Ruben disagrees that coding communities are good at tossing out abusive assholes. Fair enough, as it's obvious his definition of them differs from mine.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/so-then-formalize-that-43a3ed17ae70

He argues we should have exact rules for what coding communities should not care about, even if those things are as obvious as "don't call people names" and "this is not the the place to talk about knitting a sweater"

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/so-why-not-write-it-down-as-a-policy-d59700b7409e

I argue banning someone for being an asshole is self explanatory, he thinks we need to make this bit of common sense a rule, implying people are too stupid to know being an asshole is inappropriate without a rulebook.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/no-one-should-ever-shit-on-your-code-c5e2d869c83f

I argue that a guy like Linus Torvalds ripping your CODE a new asshole is not a personal indictment, he thinks no rebuke against your work should ever hurt your feelings.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/code...havior-is-within-an-organization-5f35c133907b

He argues CoCs should make explicit things like "if we get along, we work better", as if that was not understood by all standards of common sense.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/you-really-dont-get-what-code-of-conducts-are-for-do-you-dabaca147e74

He resorts to just insulting me because he doesn't believe common sense means we don't need rules that spamming gibberish in code commits is a bad idea or any other baldly obvious bad idea shouldn't be done, because in his world, if there is no rule against against, he assumes everyone assumes it's okay regardless of their ability to reason what is proper to make a community based project succeed.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/victim-blaming-lovely-just-what-this-was-missing-6ec9d815c1cc

His response to my saying that actions outside the scope of a code project should be dealt with by proper authority, and not doing so is all on you. Apparently, Ruben hates the concept of "personal responsibility" too.

https://medium.com/@rubencodes/what-1fcbe45f4d0d

I included a comment to quit reading offensive meanings into coding terms (master and slave in code speak is not a literal endorsement of IRL slavery for instance), Ruben completely misses the point.

I included some rebuttals to some of the comments I felt needed them too.

Ultimately what can they really do? They can’t make the people answer dumb questions in the “correct” way.

SO has turned into a cesspit of Indians asking junior-level questions all the time, for jobs they are paid to do. I went onto the frontpage to see the newest question and saw this:

2018-04-29-16:55:21.png

This guy opened 5 questions with the same thing prior but nobody could really help him. I really, really hope this is just an educational project that isn't going to end up in an actual hospital in New Delhi somewhere, and I'd rather there wasn't a crowdsourced do-my-homework site to allow idiots like this to pump out barely-functional software that is probably going to get someone killed in the future. The enablers who answer low-hanging fruit questions like this are no better, because it just attracts more of them. SO can burn for all I care

On the topic of SO users being hostile to marginalised groups, et al: eh? How much information can they get from a screen name?

I'm really hoping this is just an educational project, because if they're hoping to email living organ donors, they better have a more compelling sales pitch than "Organ is urgently needed" for a total stranger

Also, does their database not have any keys?
Code:
SELECT email
       FROM personprofile
       WHERE firstname= '$firstname' AND lastname= '$lastname' AND fathername= '$fathername'"
How many matches do you think that'd hit in a country of a billion people?

In a pattern that should be obvious by now (troons + anything = drama bombs), troon behavior has spread over to the console hacking community. While people like fail0verflow hacked the Switch and got Linux booting, a troon enabler on the ReSwitched team decided to leave forever, but not before screeching on the way out. Furthermore, the troons got doxed and outed, by a rival group that isn't so troon friendly.

Oh, and here's the yu gi oh cards the troons are referring to. I'll give them props, they came up with one of the more fun ways of doxing and fucking with salty troons.
