The correct response should have been: "We do not comment on personnel matters. Notwithstanding that, evidence has come to light of allegations of disruptive behavior which does not reflect the values of Canonical, and therefore we have terminated [his] employment." IOW, since he decided to be a disruptive asshole elsewhere that becomes a reason to get rid of him without having to comment on whether they knew he was a chomo or not.

Not only should this have never gotten past legal, it should never have gotten past public relations either. Either a certain executive and two other departments utterly failed in their duties, or a certain executive didn't consult legal and/or public relations before shitting out that embarassing (and potential liability-inducing) email.
 
Looking into Floridas law about the sexual predator status, this is quite serious.


In example, if he gets a different license plate for his car, and he fails to report this to cops within 48h, he gets a "mandatory minimum term of 6 months with electronic monitoring" and each detail he fails to report is a separate offense and terms get higher on re offenses.
If he changes his residence, even if temporary, he has to report that to cops, and cops have to report every school and child care facility in a 1-mile radius, that there is a predator.
And if you know that a sexual predator didn't report a location / car / whatever change to authorities, you yourself can be charged for that, if you don't report it.

Imagine hiring such a person and having to deal with this bullshit, having legal tripwires around you at all time.
The difference between a "sexual offender" and a "sexual predator" matters a lot.

This might be interesting. The store of recorded videos from the conference has been updated and it has videos from the day after (for example a talk on the "security of Debian" from yesterday afternoon) and videos from the same day and room as his talk ("federated instant messaging" immediately preceded his talk in the grand amphitheatre). But unless they've named it something different I can't see Bicha's talk on "What's new in Debian 13 for Gnome".

Meaning they're deliberately omitting it. I wonder what is going on behind the scenes. Not that I think they should post it. Frankly, I think it may well be the right decision not to. But what are their reasons and will they say? Was their disruption? Imagine we'd have heard about that if so. Are they planning to simply release it when they imagine the fuss will have died down? Or have I just missed the file somehow?

My prediction is that they're never going to post it. The organizers likely let the talk go on as scheduled so as to reduce the number of people asking questions about his past. Now, whether or not someone heckled him during his presentation is something we'll likely never know -- but given how most dissenters have been excommunicated from OSS I highly doubt anything happened.

Perhaps some of the people on this thread hypothetically could have reported Bicha’s talk to DebConf’s sponsors, and DebConf could hypothetically be desperately trying to repair their sponsor relationships?

Of course, because it didn't even reach beta quality yet and there are no packages outside of some testing branches.
But their software being unfinished and unusable, never stopped troons from advertising it.

And even if it would have a stable release, there isn't a reason why anyone would run it, as long as xorg exists.

Once they officially admit that xorg is discontinued.

And it is a deliberately bad solution. A stripped down wayland compositor that runs XWayland to then run a x11 compositor.
People who follow their advice and use it, will have a buggy broken environment and will be asked to "upgrade" to native wayland when they complain.

I think it is the right call to make to suppress it.
After all, there are thousands of people visiting the conference, some from very far away. Pretty much all of them are innocent and had no idea at all about this.
Don't ruin the conference for these people or turn it into a circus because of one faggot that the state of Florida should have had executed a decade ago.

Then in the private backroom all the organizers can curse the faggot to hell and make sure that never ever again will he be allowed to attend.
But don't ruin the conference for everyone else.
