Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
TechRights.org (very pro RMS, anti corporate FOSS blog) published their take and it also mentions the push within parts of the FSF to remove Stallman. The same site also had a guest post from an anti systemd advocate who wanted RMS to step down but for different reasons, and who feels that just booting him out was the wrong move.

The Trisquel forums (another forum full of stallmanites) are less active these days but two threads are about this and people are mostly disappointed in this, treating it like he died.

The general consensus in that group is that anyone who replaces RMS is going to be filling giant shoes and shouldn't be compromised by Red Hat/Microsoft/Google/etc. In this group, they don't see it as a dangerhair takeover of tech as much as they see it as a big corporate takeover of tech and they wouldn't be wrong either.

Anyone who replaces rms is going to be some kind of SJW mental midget who will burn down the FSF. I wouldn't be surprised if they just got a blatant plant straight from one of those three.

Some speculation on there about John Sullivan- the current executive director- replacing him (in fairness he presumably ran most day-to-day stuff already). He's a vegan, not great, but then some of the best people have been vegan or vegetarian. More concerningly he does not seem to be an absolutely insane free software fanatic.

I notice that Mr. Sullivan has privated all his LiveJournal posts in the past month or so. A precaution taken after the initial attacks on Stallman, against similar attacks by the transgendered mob/lying press/bigcorp (same thing)? Or.. did he know in advance? ? ? ? ???

EDIT: I'm also seeing a very real pattern with these attempts to attack Stallman as 'divisive' or 'bad for free software' because some projects have split off from the GNU project- they have absolutely nothing to do with substansive technical disagreements, it's all just troons being driven nuts by their hormones. See, for example, the Libreboot troon complaining in 2016 about some lunatic being fired for cause.
The Free Software Foundation recently fired a transgendered employee of
the FSF, just for being trans, because some transphobic cissexist people
wrote negativly about her. The FSF fired her because they thougdt she,
rather than the assholes bullying her, was causing the FSF potential
damage. As a result, she was fired from the FSF.

As a trans person myself, I find this disgusting.

I'm declaring here and now to the whole world that Libreboot is no
longer part of the GNU project. I do not believe that the FSF or the GNU
project deserve to exist.

Please remove libreboot from the GNU mailing list infrastracture, and
GNU Savannah admins please delete the "lr" account. I own libreboot.org
and I have the ability to create my own mailing lists for the libreboot
project. I do not wish to use the GNU/nonGNU mailing lists anymore.

Libreboot is not part of GNU or FSF anymore. I hereby denounce both GNU
and FSF.

Long live the LGBT community, and long live the free software movement.
Meanwhile, FSF and GNU can both go fuck themselves.

Let's just say I would be more than a little surprised if there was an ounce of truth to this story of the wicked FSF firing this brave transwoman, given that the FSF published a loving profile of the man in question with all his deluded pronouns two years prior.

EDIT2: The funniest of the discussions about this event should be available on this mailing list archive, though some discussion was occurring on IRC and the private gnu-prog-discuss list.
https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/libreboot/2016-09/index.html

Highlights include several of the actual contributors (in terms of code) to the project leaving over the sabotage by the chap involved, and a gay vegan athiest furry explaining how he's very disappointed by the whole situation and everyone should learn from Zootopia.

It seems like in early 2017 one of the other trannies involved in Libreboot managed to talk Leah who "was at the time struggling with gender dysphoria and substance abuse" down, and the war against GNU stopped. For then..

EDIT3: This is all covered in like the first three pages of this thread, but it's still funny, dammit.

Well, seriously didn't think they could get to stallman but apparently, they did. I really admired the man although I did not always agree with him and this makes me pretty sad, especially because it also shows clearly what sorry state tech and IT is in and what kinds of people control it. The FSF will either fall apart or being overtaken by a corporate shill. (just like the linux kernel is basically being overtaken by corporates) To be fair though, the FSF as such didn't do a whole lot. Licenses like the GPL are abused on a daily basis unpunished. The only activities of the FSF I'm truly aware of is selling overpriced china junk and Stallman doing his speeches which 90% of the audience don't really understand and just attend because it's Stallman. Most still do not know the difference between free software and open source software.

I also see another movement though. Technology interested people who are more conservative, and also really see the value in elegance, minimalism and coding merit, in the vein of the old school hackers of Stallmans younger days, just with a political spin on top. In stark contrast to your average nu-male/soyboy tranny "webdev-diversity-consultant-something" guy. I have the feeling this could swell those ranks. The culture wars have come to tech. I know I'm being optimistic as hell but long term, that might not be a bad thing.

I hope Stallman is going to be alright.

Is it safe to say that Social Justice was the wedge used to inject corporate influence into the open source movement?

SocJus as a religion functions an awful lot like high level scientology. No wonder it's such a great fit in Hollywood.
They've even got their own SeaOrg.

It's the memetic version of a retrovirus and can be used to execute arbitrary code in the environment infected by it.

Now that RMS is gone...

Context for anyone unfamiliar: Felker is the author of musl, an alternative c library + compiler, which is very well written, focused on being small, light and static. Guy wrote a hardened implementation of malloc for fun.

The vultures begin their feast.

My understanding is only surface, what would you say is the implication of this development?

So a year ago the dangerhairs and balding nu males tried to cancel RMS because he made a joke about the government's stance on abortion, despite the fact that according to another poster on this site who did digging it was probably a troll testing the codes of conduct of various projects. Richard Stallman told them to pound sand and that it was his joke.

Most people forgot about it, but everyone who smelt blood in the water didn't forget it. They're now testing the waters, because Richard Stallman was like that guy telling you "no you're not doing this as long as I'm alive/in charge here". Now that he's not in charge they're already working to push forward on things that RMS didn't approve of because he's no longer in charge. They're starting off with something like a joke RMS didn't want gone.

Fact: There is no way that any of the people complaining about this joke found it while consulting documentation as part of actually advancing the state of free software.

They are all fucking worthless and one day will be made to shut their dirty, lying mouths.

Agreed and I can generalize this a bit: some sources say Gen Z is more conservative than before, though some say the opposite. I know people at places like MIT and CMU that keep the hacker spirit alive, and some few posts to r/programming that are quite impressive, but I couldn't say that about 99% of programmers.

In case anyone needs any more proof to the theory that red hat is an absolute cancer on FOSS
