What the fuck, Debian.

Here's the freak's github avatar, because of course:

And here's his blog. Literally the top fucking post talks about how he's going through a "second puberty" as a bald, 46 year old man - plus the usual sperging about how political correctness totally isn't censorship, complete with the tired xkcd reference.

Terrifying that trooning out in your 40s is something that Central Eurocucks just do now. I had always hoped for the worst of the newest gender lunacy to stay on the other side of the Atlantic.
I'd really like to now if he graduated from TU Vienna, I suspect not.

His real name is Gerfried Fuchs. Couldn't find a CV or thesis, though.

From the homepage of his father:
Rhonda d'Vine, birth name Gerfried Fuchs.

Father, currently mother too of a son: Simon.

Works as a computer scientist. Area of expertise: Linux.

Plays the drums and bass, is also in the family music Fuchs.

While I'm deadnaming troons:
I looked at Jenny List, a "maker" and writer for HackADay (hobby/open-source hardware blog and community), responsible for gems like these:

What I found was a ghoul that puts John Flynt to shame.

It was surprisingly hard to find his birth name. He already trooned out since at least 2014 and a lot of stuff was already gone.
Finally I found a link to his old blog in the Oxford Hackspace mailing list he's a member of. He changed his profile but an archived version from 2012 reveals his name to be John List.

This sounds like something Microsoft would love, devs refusing to have anything to do with open source, now taken over by bluehairs instead of the neckbeards who should own it.
It looks more and more like the real objective of woke culture is to poison everything that's a threat to the political power of elites; forums where you can say whatever you want, open source projects that threaten corporate software, political movements that focus on actual issues. Discussions are subverted and derailed by people who don't want you talking about any real issues. The insidiousness of this form of social control is very scary. We're quickly approaching a dystopia if we're not already there. The NPC meme is 100% true, people are brainwashed by mass media into carrying out their will without even realizing it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. it's very interesting who the mind virus targeted.

This shit goes way back. I was recently surprised to read about a 2010 developer conference talk on HAIKU OS...
At 2010 edition of FOSDEM in Brussels, Niels Sascha Reedijk gave a talk HAIKU OS has no Future[22] cited the work of queer theory by Lee Edelman on queer futurity, and Mathew Fuller’s software studies, stating the Haiku OS is a “queer” operating system: “Our work will not ever define the future of operating systems, but what it does do is undermine the monotone machinery of the competition. It is in this niche that we can operate best. … Because even though we have no future, it does not mean that there will not arrive one eventually. Let us get there the most pleasant way possible.”

Everyone points to the big players, like Microsoft and IBM, getting heavily involved in open source as if it's a good thing. From a technical point of view it might be sometimes, but it's pretty clear that they're mainly involved to subvert open free and open software to either serve their own ends, or to prevent it from challenging their dominance. They do that by, as you suggest, inserting political concerns into what should be a pure meritocracy.

They've all forgotten Microsoft's self-described behaviour: Embrace, Extend, Extinguish. MS only made the mistake of putting a name to what all of the big corporate contributors are have always done - including Red Hat, long before it was bought out by IBM. We're well into the extend phase now, where "open" but restricted or obfuscated elements are being made structural requirements of open source ecosystems, where proprietary additions are necessary for projects to function, where licenses are being reinterpreted by corporately appointees to exclude "undesirable" contributors, and where you can be driven away from the thing you love, by those same corporately sponsored contributors, and have all your work stolen from you for breaching a code of conduct that you never consciously promised to abide by, for entirely normal, rational behaviours in entirely unrelated contexts.

Good to see that igor from young frankenstein is doing well for himself.
He couldn't get Frau Blucher, so he became Frau Blucher.

Serious question: What's wrong with it other than development moving at a snail's pace and /nodrivers/?

Perhaps true to the zennish name, it's an answer to a question that's no longer relevant. BeOS to me was always about lotsathreads and multimedia, and every OS does that now. The latter is now also irrelevant if you can't talk to the hardware that does the heavy lifting nowadays - thus making the driver problems huge.

Similarly, the file system was another one of those things - yeah, okay, it's designed to be a btree and extent-based and huge, but there's a lot of FSes like that now. Unless you really like the APIs, what's really the point?

I mean, I liked the BeOS UI a lot, at least at the time. I'll occasionally switch to a theme that imitates it but that's enough of the Be Experience for me, and I switch back to something that I can 'shade easier pretty quickly. Being able to hide the entire window with a wheel flick ends up being more useful than freeing up a chunk of the title bar at all times.

I would guess that Haiku exists today more as a graduate research/postdoc hobby kind of project than anything...different enough you can probably still publish your work here and there and leave your name somewhere, but not useful for much beyond research. I could be completely wrong about that but I'm not going to bother to investigate.

Yeah. To be clear, I'm okay with toy project OSes but imagining they're something they're not is where I start rolling my eyes.

It just can't get much worse for Godot, can it?
Ok, I know the discord is completely overrun with trannies but this is quite clearly a joke. A lot of the documentation is filled with jokes. This particular article has been in place since like 2014 when (I assume) Juan Linietsky wrote the first batch of public tutorials.

Fair enough, just checking considering I only first came across this a few minutes ago.

To be fair I agree with the spirit of the statement "encrypting save files is bullshit" and it stems from greed on the publisher/devs side (and well runs contrary to the idea of FLOSS).
It also states that unless the save file is server based, encryption is useless as the key is stored at the save location.

TLDR, people are sharing "personal secrets and images", and that users have to be aware of "predatory behaviour" so they don't get blackmailed in future.

Why is it that this always happens in progressive safe spaces?

That's not too different from the KF sign up warning.
And good general advice.

The kf signup screen is warning you that you might get exposed as a furry and made fun of, this seems more like they're warning you that reiko and groomers await. I'd like to know what prompted this announcement, it's almost certainly in response to something ridiculous happening.
