Operation Chris Eater commences

I've looked in a couple databases. The only licensed attorney in VA with the first name Max and a last name beginning with "R" is a guy named Max Richburg in his late 60s, who practices in Alexandria.

There is also no one named Max on the list of certified court-appointed attorneys for the 16th Judicial District of Virginia (which includes Albemarle/Charlottesville).

However -- and here I must stress that the PD system in VA bears zero resemblance to the state where I practice -- it seems that court-appointed attorneys in VA must be "qualified" for the type of case they are appointed to. There are separate levels of qualification for misdemeanor, felony, capital, and capital appeals, among others. This might explain what happened with Chris initially not being appointed the "right type of lawyer."

Yeah, I checked Lexis Advance (which I think pulls Martindale-Hubbell) as well as Bloomberg and West directories, for attorneys named "Max" (which got people named e.g., Max or Maxwell, and hit first and last names). There are a few, but they're either on the other side of the state or in a practice field that makes no sense for a PD to be in.

On one hand it's cool you might have tracked down the lawyer. On the other I'm afraid that if his name goes public he'll be bombarded by weens.

First off, we're not sure it's him yet.

Secondly, A notice to the weens from your Uncle Saul:

In low-stakes criminal defense, very little is lawyering. Most is deal-making/horse-trading. If this does turn out to be Chris's lawyer, contacting him will just make him more likely to become emotionally involved in Chris's defense, be willing to hand-hold him more, and potentially cash in some of the (presumably considerable) chips he has with the DA. All your fantasies about OPL doing time go even further down the drain if you ween on the nice people in suits here.

Update: There is a Nicholas J. "Nick" Reppucci that works in the Charlottesville PD office. The only publicly available photograph is a grainy shot on the cover of his Facebook page. What do you think, @Rammspieler, could this be your "Max Rippoli" guy?

Jesus. What kind of young attorney doesn't even have LinkedIn? Anyway I figure that's got to be it. That name similarity.

This, 100%. Litigators are the type of person who harden their resolve when they encounter resistance. And PDs are the guys who live to fight for someone who they think is indigent but deserves a second chance/world class defense. Confirming the surely near-infinite bucket of disordered explanations about dang dirty trolls that Chris is surely already heaping on this poor fucker is only going to help Chris.

Is Chris even keeping him or is getting a new defender, with the whole "wrong lawyer" thing?

If my earlier theory is correct, I checked the database and Nick is qualified to be appointed for felony cases. Thus, he would be the "right lawyer." If, in fact, it is Nick.

And now my wife is telling me that if I don't get off this retarded forum, horrible things will happen to me, so I will have to bid you goodnight for the time being.

Perhaps I should ask Brianna Wu for help getting a restraining order that makes my wife not say anything mean when I waste time on the internet . . .

That certainly resembles him. Either someone has shitty handwriting and I read "Max" or I'm in need of Chrisglasses and I read "Max". Eitherway, your findings on the VA qualification system and finding this guy is certainly a help.

You misunderstand the point of a lot of weening. It isn't usually about making Chris as miserable as possible. It is about getting content, and being the person who can upload the video "Lulzy call to Chris's lawyer".

Perhaps this has been mulled over elsewhere and I have missed it

...but why in the fuck would Chris think to bring up trolls at all during this trial or any court session dealing with the pepper spray? It literally has nothing to do with trolls whatsoever by his own admission. I mean, in the Game Place 2011 incident he insanely thought that Michael Snyder and the patrons at Game Place were actively waging cyberwarfare on him so in his twisted reality I can see why he'd probably pester Rob Bell to bring it up. But here it was in his own words "good protest" against Sonic Boom and Sega, not trolls.

I don't think Chris makes that big of a distinction between people who bother/annoy him and "trolls." So in his mind the innocent GameStop employee who got sprayed was probably a troll in his mind, since he was working in a corporation that allowed Sonic Boom games with blue arms to be sold, despite Chris' attempts at defacing/hiding the games.

I'm kinda worried. We haven't heard from him yet. You guys think he found out about Operation Chris Eater and is now playing the waiting game to see if we somehow "forget" and he can give us his own True and Honest account of the proceedings?

From what I've seen of Chris' Facebook, he doesn't really give a shit what he posts or when. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes another post about My Little Pony before he posts about court hearings.

I think that may be stretching it a little far even for Chris. I actually just had a thought, maybe he wanted to mention the trolls to the lawyer to let him know that he may have a bad reputation online (as Chris thinks everyone knows about this) and that trolls may harass him during the case.

I just hope when April comes, his paranoia doesn't get the better of him and he'll start calling out to the audience in the courtroom, claiming there's a troll amongst them spying on him.

This thread is the first time I've seen Chris call his mom Barbara Ann. At least it explains why his 3DS friend code is BararAnne.

Though that just raises further questions and makes me even more creeped out.

If I'm not mistaken, Chris said that Bob used to call Barb "Barbara Anne", and after he died, Chris picked up that habit, claiming that it makes his mother smile.

I really hope that doesn't happen. Chris isn't likely to be an easy client, and adding weenery to the mix would be shitty.

My immediate thought when we were told he wanted to tell the judge about the trolls is that he figured it would garner some sympathy for him- "Oh, you have been harassed by the TROLLS? Well, ma'am/sir/thing, I'm sorry, you ARE innocent, free to leave, and here is a coupon for a free super-size can of pepper spray from the Wal-Mart! (which you are entitled to visit)"
