This time last year, the red carpets were already back in storage.

The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 25, more than two months later than last year’s ceremony. The awards will recognize films released during a year in which movie theaters were largely closed.

Streaming services, which were already on the rise as an awards-season presence, are poised to dominate in April, both with their own productions (like Netflix’s “Mank”) and with traditional studio films that were released through streaming platforms because of the pandemic (like Searchlight Pictures’s “Nomadland,” which is streaming on Hulu).

I have not heard of most of the movies that have been nominated, but I'm sure you have.
TENET, Mank, and Wolf-Walkers are the only movies I believe are good. Everything else...ehhh.

Actually, I watched part of Tenet and wasn’t particularly jazzed with it, so I just went to bed.
I generally like Nolan’s films, but this one’s story and characters didn’t really grab me like Interstellar or Inception, and the scenes weren’t as impressive as both of those and Dunkirk. Overall, in his films I can point to a moment and say, “that was magnificent”. Going through 40 years of messages always tears me up, DiCaprio finally talking to his wife and the shot of them both old and holding hands floored me the first time I saw it, the tension of the soldiers calling each other Germans, I just didn’t really feel Tenet gave me what I like in his films.

In Comifornia land of the lock down? Hush your mouth.
Need we forget?

Hence, why it's OK for a bunch of celebrities to get together and jack each other off, yet you're KILLING GRANDMA if you try to visit her for the first time in months.

Are YOU part of an idiotic elitist cabal that makes billions of dollars annually?
Yes, of course they can do whatever they want.

GOOD! This ceremony has become almost pointless a lot faster than I expected.

This might be the only positive outcome of the covid frenzy.

Maybe this doesn’t make sense to me, but I don’t get why the lead actor and supporting actor are nominated in the same category. Either way, Judas Priest > Judas and The Black Messiah

Borat is nominated in 2 categories?
He’s only nominated because of Borat 2 and it’s political messaging. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a dramatic Sacha Baron Cohen seriously. Especially when he’s essentially complaining and sperging about the lizard man Mark Zuckerberg.

Saw someone suggest that they didn't think they could pull a lead actor nom so they put both in supporting to improve their chances.

Not a bad list this year, most stuff was delayed till 2021 but not awful picks with what they had to work with.
For best picture I would remove Promising Young Woman comes across bit too Disney Channel in a few parts and has some bad acting in it that drags it down in important moments, would replace it with Never Rarely Sometimes Always. I feel like Emerald Fennell did a meh job, her direction felt better a Pitch Perfect movie rather than what Promising Young Woman was trying.

Best actress no issue with but would have liked to see Jessie Buckley for I'm Thinking of Ending Things and Morfydd Clark for Saint Maud.

Best Supporting Actor, Leslie Odom Jr in One Night in Miami wasn't bad but felt too much like acting rather than being a real person, Aldis Hodge who played Jim Brown was far better in the movie and true stand out for me.

Adapted Screenplay, not sure why Borat is up for this well I do it's for political reasons but the movie is mostly improve.

Animated Feature, replace Over the Moon with Lupin the First and not bad.

Visual Effects, what a joke, know most blockbusters were moved from the year but still better stuff than this poor list. Tenet and the Midnight Sky are the only two that should be on the list, maybe the One and Only Ivan as well, would had the Invisible Man on the list, Soul was on the shortlist so in that case would have gave it to that as well, Greenland would have been a fine fit, it did nothing new but didn't look bad same with the Greyhound. Also Mank, David Fincher uses a lot of effects just they are the type that go unnoticed.

Demon Slayer didn't get in? Didn't they release it in Florida so that it would have a chance?

While its a little funny and it does make sense it feels like a joke since it got the top charts. Sold better than fucking Soul, at least.
The animated film category is a joke every year. I don't think the judges even watch any of the contenders. They just give the award to whatever Disney or Pixar movie comes out that year and totally snub some genuinely artistic or beautiful animation. Ghibli gets nominations but hasn't won one since Spirited Away.

Which sucks because there's some beautiful non Disney animated movies that deserves an Oscar.

I cannot believe Borat 2 got an Oscar nomination. What a gigantic piece of shit. Whether I'm talking about the sequel or the awards ceremony is up for you to decide.

Because it was brave enough to tell us that Trump was bad. Great comedy has always been about pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable, and who else had the guts to voice such a controversial opinion?

I know when seeing that movie. I'm like oh my God, Sacha Baron Cohen is a brave man who is risking everything to teach us how bad orange man is.

Also how does mr. Cohen mange to be married to Isla Fisher who is a smoking babe and out of his league.

Weirdly not the Oscars fault that one, it's up for the studio to submit for each category they want, for some reason they put them both up for best supporting actors, maybe they think it would be an easier win.
