Thing is traditionally the Oscars seem to only hire Billy Crystal and Jimmy Kimmel as hosts for some reason. I would like it if they were more risky with their host choices to make it more interesting.


Another of Emelia Pérez's crimes is that it casted past their primes busted up Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez.

Didn't Steve Martin host it once or did I imagine that one? It was a double act IIRC.
Chris Rock wasn't a bad host. He reminded me of Ricky Gervais with him jokingly insulting people.

From what I recall in my days watching the Oscars, Anne Hathaway and James Franco were just as unfunny and annoying as Kimmel. (Why the hell were those two hired?)

I think this was just a lucky coincidence. I'm gonna go conspiritard on this and say that Emilia Perez was originally a shoo-in for all those major categories (that Anora ended up winning). What actually killed it is when the general public became aware of it normies overwhelmingly laughed and mexicans seethed, then the Academy realised just how badly they'd shown their ass in giving it a bazillion nominations. They got lucky they dug up dirt that would reasonably give them a reason to memoryhole it.

This is the only clip of that godawful catastrophe that I've seen, and whenever it's shown by some apoplectic conservative grifter, it makes me almost piss myself laughing. It's the part where the doctor asks Gamora if the MTF surgery is for her, and she immediately snaps back with wide eyes and says it's for someone else. It's the Lizzo compliment all over again, because real natal femals have a visceral reaction to troons no matter what their ideological programming says, and Uhura either had a real-life subtle rejection to it caught on camera, or she genuinely deserved the Oscar for the accurate portrayal of the ingrained disgust that most women have to troons.

I feel like you are overestimating the intelligence of the Hollywood elite, because yes they are that dumb. All you need to do is read the average Oscar voters reasons for voting for certain movies to know that they are idiots. It doesn't even go without saying that Emilia Perez was not even known to the general public until its oscar nominations because the film appeals to film festival attendees and coastal elites who were the only people to have seen that movie.

If Emilia Perez not winning all the awards was because of how the election turned out against leftist ideals, it wouldn't have even been nominated because as a reminder that the Oscar Nomination process was done from January 8th to January 17th, months after the election as well as racking up awards at other high profile Hollywood awards shows that were going on from December to February like the Golden Globes, BAFTAS, and so on.

If anything, I think the election is the reason this film has been nominated in the first place. The Academy would've seen it as a big fuck you to the current presidential administration since Emilia Perez is a Trans Mexican movie which would make a big statement of virtue signaling of classic hollywood liberal resistance without actually doing any meaningful activism.

Unfortunately between both the LGBT and Mexican communities despising this film, the general public hating it for just being a bad movie, and Gascon really hating Muslims on twitter made that attempt to virtue signal backfire.

tl;dr The Academy is run by morons who people give too much for being smart.

You can chalk that up to the academy having a low opinion on three genres. Horror, comedy, and animation.

Of the horror films to even get to the Oscar's only silence of the lambs has won best picture. And the rest often get booty prize awards for things like makeup and vfx.

Comedy tends to fair better as everything from gigi to Shakespeare in love have won best picture, but the academy hears "comedy" amd the only thing that comes to mind is the "hair spooge" gag from there's something about Mary, or any number of movies in the last 30 years where Adam Sandler makes a jackal of himself.


And animation is another thread in itself, but two highlights are beauty and the beast's best picture nomination which promoted studios for years to try and get another. Culminating in dreamworks submitting ardmans chicken run in 2000 for a nomination but they were rejected because the academy only saw chicken run's marketing, which made it look like the inane kids fare they STILL think all animation is.

I'd say it's about 20% politics (catering to the alphabet community) and 80% advertising/bribery. Because honestly, the alphabets are already ingrained into Hollywood as it is, so it really depends on who spends more money on campaigns for the award considerations.

Such a plastic industry. I've hated hollywood for decades, and for good reason. And not just because they're made up of annoying-ass "theater people", but because it's a useless industry that rakes in billions a year. If we put that money toward healthcare instead we could afford medical care AND still pay the medical industry the exorbitant amounts of money it needs to survive in the US economy. Same with the sports industry. It's just stupid how much money gets wasted on overpriced, overrated entertainment each year.
