BS. The only two films I knew about were Wicked and the Substance, and one lost to a bigger who can't sing and the other to a melodramatic prostitute. This year's Oscar's were not only Paloma Diamond coded but Demi Moore coded as well. Fuck the academy.

Nobody said it on here, but I personally am glad Kieran Culkin won his first Oscar, since now he won’t have to play second fiddle to the other famous Culkin

Just the fact that he even admitted the only reason he won his Oscar was just so he can remind his wife to give him more children in the future is both funny and (kind of) bold at the same time.

I have never watched the Oscars in my entire life-- only clips of the shit that people talk about the day after.

I watched Kieran Culkin's speech, since a lot of people said it was worth watching.

It was, indeed, great. It was both funny and incredibly adorable. It was total breath of fresh air to see an actor talk so much about his family and to see an actor not come across as a total narc.

I genuinely laughed at the "Here's to my wife, the love of my life, ye of little faith ..." line.

Macaulay Culkin's speech when he got a Star on the Walk of Fame was nice too, btw. Methinks the Culkins have good heads on their shoulders in spite of growing up in the entertainment business. Good for them.

you have absolutely no idea how hard they were trying to astroturf this ugly, garish tranny movie to everyone. local cinema in my neighborhood had posters with the trannys face all over the building, i went to see a completely unrelated non-blockbuster non-hollywood movie and i had to sit through like 5 minutes of trailers and ads for that gross shit. basically all the trailers just try to paint this obvious tranny as some incredible femme fatale and they dont even tell you what the movie is about (i still have no fucking idea), they just try to make you think this tranny is amazing and this is the best movie ever because it has a tranny in it.
its legit sickening so i am glad HE lost. 41% really isnt anywhere close to enough

If this was 2015-2016, you'd see motherfuckers glazing the shit out of Emilia Perez. But this is 2025 and people are pretty much sick and tired of woke shit in cinema now. It's gotten to the point where big Hollywood companies are slowly walking back on a few of their films because they're starting to see the writing on the wall and are desperate for people to come to theaters. I mean, shit, I even heard Disney/Lucasfilm was going to walk back on the Rey movie if Snow White tanked, because they think people aren't feeling girl boss movies. Pretty sure they started cutting back on LGB shit, too.

Emilia Perez should have got a Razzie at best. At worst, it should have been laughed off in theaters and damage Zoe Saldaña's career. The fact that she was awarded anything was a scummy move in and of itself.

Honestly, I find this scene to be a great piece of art, though probably not due to the reasons the filmmakers intended.
Firstly, the hospital in which it is set somehow manages to look both sterile and dirty at the same time. Then there are the characters who are all grotesque: a swarthy tranny shaped like an ogre, money-grubbing doctors who look like Jewish-Oriental half-breeds, nurses with whorelike fake smiles and a bunch of mutilated cripples covered in bandages. Add that they, in a mediocre chorus, all happily sing about the processes of being turned into a eunuch, culminating in a Times-Square-like assault on the senses, and the end result is a deeply unsettling depiction of a horrifying industry which profits from the sterilization of the mentally ill they create with their propaganda.
In short, kino.

Devil's Advocate: It is kinda based how much salt Audiard generated from spics and troons for how he openly didn't give a fuck about MUH AUTHENTICITY to spic/troon experiences. A crew of Mexican trannies even made an entire short film in some bizarre effort to own him, as if he would notice or care. This rich frog basically outright said "No thanks for your useless input, I already understand enough about you savages and perverts to make a movie out of you". Does anyone else feel like the production may have actually had less involvement from DEI consultants, sensitivity readers etc. than most nominees did?

Honestly after all the shit Kit Culkin put Macaulay (and probably the rest of the kids) through, I'm amazed they came out normal. I remember the rumors in the 1990s about Kit being a total insane stage parent that pretty much ruined his son's career.

I remember from way back when Brody fell off after his first oscar win because despite being a fine actor he's a notorious jackass irl. Glad to see some pottery for his second oscar win.

Hehe he won really young for the Pianist and got a gigantic ego from it. It lasted until he basically nuked his career with egoism and had to reset it by about 2009.

She gave "world weary NYC hoowah". Demi gave "aging star actress going insane as she grapples with her replacement and changing status in Hollywood".

Zoe winning was a pity win basically, and this was the weakest set of Best Original Songs in quite some time so you could pick a nominee out of a hat and get something of similar quality. Margaret Qualley should have been nominated and won Best Supporting Actress in a just world, though.

Yep. They should have just played the entire "Pump it Up" scene to piss off the Emelia Perez glazers.

The Substance is definitely worth a watch. I watched The Brutalist and the acting and cinematography were laudable, but it's a miserable film and I'll never watch it again.

The Brutalist is a very pretty movie with great acting and an absolute gut punch of a tonal shift and a weird ending....

It also has great costumes.

Tbh I can’t believe the praise Anora got. I watched it without having heard of it at all (girlfriend picked it) and found the story to be incredibly cheesy and predictable. I thought the characters were shallow and cliche, the acting was amateurish, and the cinematography was too Netflixy. I was genuinely shocked to find out after the fact that it had such rave reviews. Anyway just my opinion, feel free to disagree. At least the oscars thought it was good enough for TTD

Anora was literally "Pretty Woman with a NYC hoowah". It was 7/10 at BEST and absolutely NOT Best Actress or Beat Picture winner. I think Mickey did a LOT of "horizontal lobbying" for the movie....
