OSRS / Old School Runescape - Medieval Cookie Clicker

Is it worth upgrading the skiff's hull to mahogany at level 48 when I'm about to unlock the bigger boat at level 50?

For that matter, do the 2 lower tiers of ships serve a purpose anymore once you get the biggest ship? The only situation where I still needed the raft was to get the drinks crate behind the Lumbridge Swamp to Kharidian Desert shortcut, the skiff wouldn't fit.

Edit: Since you don't have to get rid of your older ships anyway, a better question would be is there any reason to keep upgrading them once you've moved to the higher tier? I put a couple more upgrades in to the raft's helm and hull alongside the skiff before realising it might be pointless.

Also where the hell do I get hemp seeds?

So current thoughts (only 54 sailing) is that, bounty tasks suck to do (likely better when you have you + 2 crew mates, so you can have 2 cannons + you hitting a target) it doesn’t seem worth to do port tasks beyond 30 when Barracuda trials give so much exp

Upgrading your ship is a chore and a half on irons, having to run between Panda for lead ore then smelting else where (I’ve remembered now Superheat item is a spell that exists) and building the hull/large hull parts and all the planks needed for them

Overall I still like the potential of the skill

skiff is the only one that can be used for Trials, better hull more speed

Eventually you’re gonna end up with like 1 skiff and rest the sloops, 1 sloop will have 2 salvage hooks for when you want to afk, another one will be used for fishing and then whatever you want to do with the other ships. The raft might even have a use? There’s a little creek at the top of the great conch that looks like you can fit the raft in to get some reward

Hemp seeds can be a rarish drops from salvaging there’s other ways but that’s the only way I’ve personally received them

Kinda bummed out that port tasks give so little exp. They're by far the most immersive skilling activity for sailing, if not in general.
Back to salvaging I guess

I wasn't aware only the skiff could do trials. One skiff and the rest sloops does seem like the best idea. Thanks.

Although, there is a small river behind Cairn Island that the current ducks stops at the mouth of. It seems like the raft might be able to fit through there also and the duck may have acted as a hint. Il need to have a look.

Another thing I've been confused by is ship combat/bountys, what's the best way to do them right now? The best weapon I can access is an iron cannon but it's extremely slow on anything other than terns and I need to use tons of repair kits also for anything stronger. It feels like I should be more powerful at this point as my ship is maxed for my level and I unlocked bounties 18 levels ago, but im still taking half a year to finish them and wasting many kits in the process. I see people using regular ranged weapons from their ships but my damage was even worse when I tried that.

Apologies if these details are already widely known in other places. I despise Reddit and most Jewtubers so that's why I have to come enquiring like a clueless noob on here.

The greater the distance, the better the reward. Now while this sounds really bad at first glance, what you can do is get a task before sailing off to salvage/trials/fishing whatever activities there are in this new world, and then return to the end port/ports of deliveries

Combat (in theory in my head) probably gets better later especially when you have a sloop with 2x manned cannons (though this means you have to aim the boat precisely that both cannons are hitting the target + you attacking.)

Honestly I’m learning as I go, I’ll wiki what I need and if a OSRS sailing short comes up on my YouTube I’ll watch it to see if I learn anything

Make your skiff as powerful as you can for trials, I have ironwood as an ironman. I'd skip teak/mahogany upgrades on ye old sloop. I park my shit at merchant salvage otherwise.

The trials are fucking hard without plugins/markers. Then it is still difficult. Smokin Feds, sailin seas.

They could have released something that was garbage, or even half garbage, but sailing is so polished. They did a great job.

I remember when they implemented EOC somebody threw a brick through Jagex's window, I quit like everyone else.

OSRS is pretty well pre-eoc now, with raids

The slayer requirement for Troubled Tortugans is killing me. I need 9 more levels but all I want to do is sail.

I rage quit the final Jubbly Jive twice but managed to beat the second with a mahogany hull. There's too many instances where misclicks fuck you, like your sails catching wind the moment before you try to change direction and you trim the sails instead, flying off course in to the bad water.

Marlin rank is so annoying, everyone I know ragequit the jubbly course. It's visually confusing. At least the glide is a movement skillcheck when jubbly is a sanity check

Glide for a level 72 is pretty hard. Almost zero forgiveness

They may slightly nerf in the future. I get the feeling they wanted the top xp methods to be on purpose difficult on release, which is why you couldn't stack seedpacks/nests or prepare "banked" stuff aside from normal mats

As a mobilist, meaning I basically play the game in its most purist form, trials suck ass, mostly due to lack of multi tiles and non-npc highlighting. The amount of perfection they ask of you to do AND they gatekeep very good QOL items behind the activity (crystal extractor is theoretically 36k exp/hr for free if you’re paying attn while doing other sailing content)

(As a note, I’ve done all 3 ranks of TT, 2 ranks of JJ and only been attempting GG recently)

The only content you can compare trials to is Hallowed Sepulchre, and Sepulchre lets you make a lot of mistakes, hell you can even buy an item to extend the timer by 1minute (as much as you want), you make 1 mistake on a trial? Boom reset, and while yes, you could just finish the trial, what’s the point if you just want the QOL item?

I’ll beat my head around the trial again maybe someday, currently parking at 73 sailing to try to get wyrms/gryphon/aquanite slayer tasks for some new items, maybe that stupid imbued heart too… fucking 42m slayer exp deep

This is a good point. Both time trials. The 5th level is not 72 agility either.

Being mobile is haram, I don't know how you guys do it.

42m slay xp too, got imbued/saturated heart at 18m xp off a big booty bloodveld. Good luck on that.

Just unlocked frost dragons, need a few nails and some sheets would be nice..

I sucked it up got the two levels I needed to do the quest when I got to that point. I'm dreading the next 7 sailing levels because I'm going to want those Rune Salvaging Hooks. Since I don't have a reliable source for Rune Bars yet, I guess I'll have to drop everything for mining and smithing so I can make my own. I mean it's fine, I have more smithing levels banked than I need for the hooks. The high seas have been a lot of fun and I don't want to leave yet.

Good luck with that. I've heard that cave is absolutely packed now. Zamorak help us all when bots are programmed to farm those dragons.

Fremmy Isles has got to be up there as one of the best quests in the game. Bro-ing it up with the Neitiznot boys, making their cool armor, chewing out the other king for being a fucking idiot (then  daring him to behead you for it), going to war against the trolls with a band of Fremeniks, not to mention the jester drip and iconic helmet you get at the end. Pure epic heroism throughout from the player character, and many humorous moments that actually aren't cringe, like discovering ropes are really made from yak hair and Ned has just been trading the balls of wool you give him for rope from Neitiznot all this time instead of making it himself. Quite a clever way to retcon and poke fun at an old feature that wasn't realistic.

I still think Neitiznot-Jatizso is one of the best jokes in the entire game.

Jubbly jive made me crash out worse than any other content in the game. Mainly due to the fps drops and deadclicks. I've been a much happier person since I've decided to say fuck you to trials and just afk shipwrecks to 99
I had more issues with Gwenith Glide than Jubbly Jive. Lots of lag spikes, stuttered movement and dead clicks. The trial itself isn't very forgiving to small mistakes making the previously posted pain points bite even harder. It took me a little over 2 hours to finish shark rank for the Ithell Heart.
