Buying them outright sure isn't as appealing as spending just as much for a random chance at getting it, pretty sure they considered the percentage in the cost and did some sort of half-assed compromise.

heard rumors they will put on battle passes in OW2. meaning, you will have to farm points to unlock new characters if you wanna be able to play as them or straight up pay cash. what are they thinking!? the hole point of the game is to switch characters to counter the other team during matches. now imagine if you have the perfect character that can counter the enemy team, but you have not unlocked that character yet so your team ends up losing the game! what a good way to divide the playerbase that may want to play the game just casually. fuck blizzard man!

It is astonishing how trite that cinematic was. Putting aside the fact that she's just a small-tittied ripoff of Yamato from One Piece, the cinematic itself was the same tired saccharine shit you see in literally every Pixar short. Holy fuck, the menstruating 12 year old in Seeing Red had more edge than this girl. How am I, a grizzled gamer who survived the trenches of gamergate, supposed to get excited about a character whose defining trait is being a generically nice person?

Judging by the cinematic the developers pulled off an AM/FM in their scifi shooter ( "Actual Machines vs Fucking Magic" moment).

I'm not going to pretend that the advance technology depicted in Overwatch has been particularly grounded but at the very least we are shown that there are machines and tech generating the powers seen in gameplay. Mercy heals with her staff, Tracer can blink because of the device on her chest and Symmetra can create light constructs with tech in her prosthetic arm. Kiriko though? She can blink, create light constructs, heal herself and others with a flick of her hand and apparently even pull off mind control and there is no a shred of tech or equipment on display in her design that'll justify her being able to do any of this. Bitch is straight up a magical girl.

OW officially jumped the shark and trying to keep thematic consistency for the world they created went out the window.

Meanwhile in Deep Rock Galactic - entire battle pass is for free, you consistently and often get tokens to unlock rewards, you can choose to unlock whatever you want, it's dense with actually good content, filler stuff in between is also valuable crafting materials. And in the end all of the content from said battle pass goes into the game's item pool, so you can still randomly encounter them while playing.

Battle passes normally have 2 tracks in games that use them.

Free track everyone gets , which is mostly nothing with little rewards sporadically placed about it with maybe one or two good things at the tail end.

And a separate(sorta as you can see below all the premium track shit between the few free track shit) premium track you have to pay for where every level has something still mostly meh rewards with more big and better rewards placed about it at times.



I've seen BP's also level up faster when you buy the premium track, and or also lets you out right BUY THE LEVELS ON IT TO SKIP THE GRIND.

the idea of the two tracks is that you progress naturally in one while constantly getting pushed in your face what else you could unlock with your wallet, and the more you progress the sweeter the deal becomes, just look at all extra sweet stuff you could unlock!
a battle pass in general is pretty ingenious since it gives people something to progress (people like to grind for shit), while tickling your brain just the right way not wanting to waste the second track since you already did grind for it.
