Oh God, you just unlocked some repressed memories of seeing shipping war slapfights. I am starting to remember Chu
had this really retarded habit of feeding retarded Pharmercy and anti-Gency people attention instead of just ignoring them, when they would start shit with him on Twitter, apparently it got so bad because some Pharmercy and other anti-Gency spergs tried to harass him off Twitter or get him fired and that kind of caused him to go radio silent before he announced him leaving Blizzard. (My memory is hazy about this, I might just be misremembering things).

Even as someone that likes the Genji/Mercy pairing, I can see your point of shipping starting
out as something completely "oh this just for fun" but then evolving into something serious
and autistic, fueled by spergy fans and staff that enables/interacts with them instead just
shrugging off autist that are way too invested into this and giving them most ambiguous answers.

Autism..Autism never changes

Although, Gency never did strike as a popular pairing compared to Pharmercy, Widowtracer,
McHanzo and ZaryaMei.
Oh lord, I never heard that about Chu but it sounds right. What a moron.

But trust me, Gency has always been one of the big OW ships and still is, with many crying over the interactions being removed in favor of Pharmercy. It may have been a bit overshadowed by the gay ships, but it was never unpopular.

I always kinda hated the fact that Pharah was forced to suck on her own because she's overpowered with Mercy.
Nothing about her kit feels good to use, but because that combination is cancer in lower rank lobbies, OW never really had a proper rocket launcher hero.

The game always had a thing against letting projectile heroes be viable, and heavily favored hitscans. Despite how redundant them adding yet another hitscan hero really is now, they keep doing it.

It's because the heroes are intentionally made with a very low skill ceiling - so they all perform within existing parameters and are forced into specific playstyles.

They absolutely looked at TF2's Soldier - saw what a force of nature it could be in a skilled players hands and went "nope can't be having that".

After seeing user Pleshie's comment about PharMercy shit, I decided to check the lead writer for OW2

Why are yurifags like this?
Apparently he has ties to a crazy shipper on Twitter called @cleartogether. If you remember, she's the one who cried about "anti homeless benches" or whatever the fuck and created such a hissy fit devs fucking took the time to changed the model of a useless bench on a map 99.9% of players wouldn't even notice. (I guess it's easier to score woke points by removing a few vertices than actually fixing the problems with your entire game)
Back when I had a Twitter id run across her postings occasionally and she seemed like the typical aggressive woke Tumblr/Twitter type, but "her "name stuck out because of the fuckin bench thing. Pharmacy shippers are by far the craziest OW shippers.
Even Moira/Mercy pairing would've had been a more interesting choice
And moicy shippers are somehow the horniest and most based

I also hate how much the characters act like le silly Pixar versions of themselves. Sure there was always silly voice lines and interactions, but it's cranked up to 11 now. And kirikos short was literally a shitty Pixar movie. It didn't feel anything like overwatch at all. Junker queen was a pretty well balanced individual in her short, actually seemed competent and witty, now she's a fucking blockheaded oaf. Hur hur do I gotta eat muh veggies cromch cromch SHUT THE FUCK UP

I took the free story modes for a spin because a friend wanted to play for old times sake (wed play PvE for hours. Just shooting bots in the Halloween special and shooting the shit. Good times...) and I admit, being able to blow off robo arms, legs, guns, etc was a welcome surprise. But the whole "get the batteries while you fight the hoard!" Made me feel like I was playing the left for dead car level all over again, but this time there was a talking monkey.

The pixarification hit me hard when I saw how over the top toony Junkrat acts. Then the actual hate toward him from characters who tolerate literal terrorists like doomfist and rammatra, or tolerating the fucked up shit moira does.

The same game has Wife Leaver™ give you the look up/down before he asks if you want to top or peg him.

How the fuck can you, in good conscience, have this toony shit for kids and a literal gigafaggot in the same game, unless grooming is the objective?

The audience didn't really "turn" on Overwatch, more like they gave up on it.
that would've inevitably happened anyway. OW is basically some smoothbrains going "what if took competitive TF and combine it with LoL heroes for marketing and "content"", after wasting years trying to get project titan going only for bunghole do destiny and eat their lunch. and in notorious blizzard fashion they were huffing their own farts, ignoring what a retarded idea it as in the first place (comp tf failed for a reason, even waifus wouldn't have saved it) and then behaved like they always do and be lazy af with content and balancing that makes less sense than some drugged hobo.

all the other shit like OWL is just an extension of that. of course being eternally butthurt about dota and more thirsty for that e-sport money than a twitch thot simp didn't help either.

but it had the blue company logo on the box people people are still retarded enough to fall for (just look at diablo 4) and enough characters for coomers and fujos (which imo were all pretty bland and "safe", that's probably part of the normie appeal tho).

But they missed the key ingredient for good/"good" character design: shortstacks. Y'know, since the only lasting thing Overwatch has contributed to the world is a staggering amount SFM porn.
No Yordles, no interest.

what's so weird is the key aspect of the every character was developed for 6 man teams. the games fun factor was built around...2 varying tanks. 2 varying dps...2 varying supports

it limited counter meta..allowed individual player skill to shine and let creativity flourish.

The thing I never understood is that three classes gameplay. Like, why not just make different characters of varying utility instead of three very specific types that are extremely limiting future designs?

That's where they were headed but instead of going for 'unique' they went the opposite towards as cookie cutter gameplay as possible. DVA used to be a straight bruiser instead of a utility tank.

Because they wanted to prevent the skill ceiling from getting too high - leaving newer players in the dust. Looking at TF2 there's a huge, nearly insurmountable gap between a "bad player" and a "great player" that will absolutely swing games in basically every single class. OW stripped down the design so having a bad player won't be instantly noticeable and that bad player can still win games.

If a support class was able to do support and fight just as well as a DPS, there would be no need for a DPS (which happened a fair bit during OW's meta IIRC).

This is a thing I never understood, OW wanted both to have a low skill ceiling and low complexity to attract newcomers, but also tried to become an esport where people want to see the skill ceiling because that's what's cool about high level players, not shiny attack animations.

It's like a zoo getting a shark and trying to fit it in a standard house aquarium.

It's incredibly noticeable now that it became 5v5. I know I'm late but I recently installed OW2 on Steam to see what the hell's going on (I left OW1 around 2019). So many of the DPS characters feel useless for 5v5. Supports and tanks are more difficult to be picked off or harassed efficiently. 5v5 force groups to be tight so everyone tends to play conservatively unless they are in the same discord chat or happens to be in a randomly well oiled team.

I believe it feels more daunting to new players than 6v6 because everyone has to lock into their role or lose in 5v5, with very little room for creative plays. A few of the maps are too big for 5v5 and simply feels weird to play. Also the sounds effects are muddier because I swear I used to be able to quickly identify footsteps and shots, it's like OW2 slapped +50% bass on everything and called it a day. Some of new characters/skin silhouette are rubbish. What the heck are with all the changes it's so much worse than I thought.

Even in high level play - the skill ceiling is stripped out. There aren't a huge number of individual plays available outside of Ultimate usage.

OW as an esport was designed to be easily trackable - where you don't have to track the whole team and fights last long enough to be watched by a "normie", similar to DOTA2. It's setup for big plays/easy highlights with the drawback that most matches play out very similarly.

They learned their lesson from WoW PVP as an esport (which is really, really hard to watch and track).

It sounds like the other end of the scale, things are so samey, why even watch?

That gap isnt really unsurmountable, you just need autistic dedication to TF2. By the time you hit 700 hours you're already decent enough to carry most casual lobbies. Compared to TF2 for the little time I played OW2 it really felt like everything was out of my control, and the damage thresholds were nearly random. I know exactly how many rockets it takes to kill a Scout, I never knew how many rockets the egyptian whore needed to shoot someone.

I don't know about that. I can't tell what's going on half the time with the amount of lightshow clutter bullshit the game has. I can tell what's going on in CS:GO, Fortnite, or even TF2.
