Overwatch

Apologies for necro'ing this thread but...

...so I was going through my backlog of games and one of them has been Overwatch. Now, I got this game Day One, but due to a combination of probably playing other games at the time, plus my work schedule which will sometimes see me working for weeks straight with only about 2-3 hours of downtime in a day, this game has been sitting in its box. I honestly can't recall if I've even played a single match yet.

That said, now a year in, is there any reason why I should consider getting into this game, or has the fandom taken ahold and there is no entry-level players left. I hate to trade-in a game I've never even gotten to play, but I'd rather do that than waste time being eviscerated and having my soul crushed repeatedly. I got work for that.
There is plenty of new players and the game is still good, give it a try

Don't worry. I've spent enough time in this game to tell you that there are still enough mouthbreathers to make even the most casual of FPS players feel like they have a chance. So long as you enjoy shooting things to some degree you'll like OW in some capacity.

Just don't look in the Custom Game lobbies.

Seriously don't.

Jesus fuck not even OW is safe from Furry RP servers.

Actually the majority of those are joke servers. I joined a couple to watch them for a laugh, but it's just a dumb name people tend to give to their chill/xp servers.

You, my friend, have had better luck than me. I thought that too before joining one of them.

... No.

... I still have PTSD.

I'm not even a fan of shooters and I play the shit out of this game. There are plenty of newbies (especially on console), so don't stress.

Plenty of new players! I'd watch out if you're good at shooters though, because you might get paired with smurf accounts who only want to fuck around. It doesn't happen often but it's pretty annoying.

As people are saying it's still running solid and there's no real entry barrier. There's no gear or tangible benefits to leveling up. You get everything from the start. The only thing you really missed out on is the holiday-themed skins.

Have you ever played Halo? I liken the experience to that. Yeah you meet some guys who are obnoxiously good but there's a lot of diversity and new people join all the time.

The shittastic fanbase mostly stays on tumblr and I'm convinced very few of them actually play the game anyways.

Legit question: does Junkrat's voice actor actually exist? Because I have literally never seen him do anything with the other voice actors. While he wasn't in this video, I'm pretty sure I've seen Hanzo's voice actor before at something. But never Junkrat's.
Also, some of Junrat's voice lines sound nothing like Junkrat. Legit sound like someone completely different. It's really weird during gameplay because you suddenly have no idea who's making that noise.

This is the only video I know of:

I've heard Chris Parson is a pretty private person, so maybe that's it. He wasn't at Blizzcon either. At the very least he has a Twitter account but hasn't posted anything since last year. On that note Zarya and Ana's VAs are also elusive, though the latter lives in Egypt so her case is understandable.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, like the way he says "dammit" when receiving a discord orb from Zenyatta. Chris has an impressive range.

Some will look at you as an opportunity, because hey, gamer girl, and will try to subtly, or more likely, NOT SO subtly hit on you.

When I used to play Garry's Mod I noticed this way more often than the other 2. A nigga will start trying to crack shitty jokes and try hard as hell to get a girl's attention the moment she opens her mouth. It's sad.

Oh god the 2D animation is really really good and he has a really interesting design o/ I can't wait to hear more about him!

The Dev Update is already out and there are also people playing him in the PTR right now as we speak. Here's Jeff Kaplan discussing Doomfist:

He's not voiced by Terry Crews. All of my interest has waned instantly.

Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed by that, but I still like his backstory.

I'm waiting for the day that people start making Doomfist parodies of the Old Spice commercials once his character model drops in GMod.

I'd imagine the reason they didn't get Terry Crews to voice the character is because it would be significantly harder to bring him in to re-record lines/record new ones. They'd also likely want him to do more marketing related things with the game and do interviews about it. Like the current voice actors of Overwatch all go to Blizzcon and do interviews for instance.

They also said at one point, in reference to how Mercy's voice actor was recast from the Beta to the final release, that they prefer casting actors who speak the character's native language. Which could also play a part.

Doomfist: he hits like a truck, has crazy mobility, tanker than roadhog (press f to pay respects), and can flip a match impressively quick with a good dive. Especially so if he has his ult ready! Unlike just about any other hero's ult he disappears from the field of play when he activates it which makes him effectively unkillable until he lands..and it has a pretty damn huge area of coverage, I might add.

He has two major counters that turn him into a mewling kitten, though. Sombra's hack completely obliterates his damage and mobility and Orisa denies his knock backs and escapes if secondary shot is timed right.

All in all he is really fucking strong and has an amazing passive that jives very well with his kit. Because of that I can see some damage reduction of some sort in the near future. Likely shrinking the area of his ult.

For the time being it's fun dicking around while people are trying to get used to someone with his damage output, mobility, and stopping power

Personal favorite types of Overwatch players tbh:
People who join team chat at the end of the game to say how shit everyone is and how good they were(when they weren't lol)

People who throw in the first 10 seconds with out stating why(no mic so no one knows what their issue is)

Anyways I'm pretty excited for doomfist to come out of ptr even though I don't really play those flanking types of heros. I like his voice but I'm just a bit dissapointed it wasn't Terry Crews

Shoutout to the ones who shit-talk at the end of matches in team chat and quickly exit the game before anyone can reply. :pinetar:
