Overwatch

I think the thing I like the most about TF2 is that it's fun exploring how deep the stereotype is on its surface then being wowed by how intricate the characters truly are. Their names are the stock the soldier or the scout but the creators work with that to let you know there's more to the men than their names. I can't interpret anything about most of the Overwatch characters besides some single trait that maybe given (Sym's autism which means nothing or Tracer's sexuality which also effects nothing) or what their one note stereotype is (Soldier 76 is the old soldier and dad jokes, Reaper is edgelord, Dv.a is LOL GAMERZ). TF2 even after decades has remained a steady 9 classes while like stated Overwatch has about 28 and more than half of them aren't that interesting outside of a surface view.

My theory is they don't want these characters too intricate so they get less relatable which is a weird dichotomy considering the most potent reveals are when they confirm something like "Yeah this character is into the same sex" like the aforementioned Tracer. The difference between TF2 classes is you like them for who they are and from my time playing Overwatch since launch you like those characters for what you can make up or infer about them which is a bad move. You can't let fanon rule everything.

In all fairness, TF2 didn't start getting legitimate lore for like 4 or 5 years after its release (if you don't count Scream Fortress 2010 as "real lore"). The Overwatch deal seems to be them deliberately dragging their feet so they can make the 'Archives' updates more weighty by putting a lot of the backstory in there.

I will admit that even the comics seem to deliberately keep the character stuff to a minimum (Zarya finds out Sombras real name... somehow, and despite the Mexican girl supposedly being one of the worlds best and most secretive hackers, a woman who has never been shown to be anything other than a frontline soldier apparently had figured it out in relatively no time at all), but as for most of it I always guessed it was to make the yearly updates bigger deals.

That was only the case after around 2002 or whenever Warcraft 3 came out. Starcraft 1 had a pretty basic grimdark storyline, and the characters were just archetypes, but RTS stories have been bad forever. Diablo 2 had good writing, solid characters, and is probably the best complete game (if you get Lord of Destruction) Blizzard has ever put out. I feel like writing for WoW pretty much ruined everything for all the other IPs Blizzard had, since it turned these grimdark games into the same kind of cartoony, light story Warcraft and WoW had.

I don't think it's the story content that's an issue, as Diablo 3 is technically darker than Diablo 2 - it just falls apart in execution, which is Blizzard's main problem.

Everything is bad in D3. Everyone betrays you. All of the demons are after you in particular. They all try and taunt you before and during combat.
Deckard Cain is killed unceremoniously by a minor character; and Adria's [From Diablo 1] (and the Diablo 1 Player Character's) secret daughter is there.
Tyrael goes through an amnesia arc, remembers who he is, but loses hope in what he's doing. Also his most trusted general [From Diablo 2] betrays you. He was a secret evil the entire time.
Whoops Adria was a secret evil the whole time (but not evil enough to help him in Diablo 1 or 2) and sacrifices her own daughter for Diablo to not only be revived but to become the PRIME EVIL (so spooky)
Tyrael at the end of this although he saw 0% of it coming names himself the Angel of Wisdom

There's just so much sloppy writing there. Diablo 2 is miles ahead because the plot is remarkably simple. Kill the main three demons (Diablo, Baal, Mephisto) and trap their souls in a soulstone. Then destroy the soulstone.
No double or triple crosses out of a shitty spy movie. No giant set pieces, no sweeping interactions with NPC characters, no forced cutscenes.

I think lore wise WCIII's story overall is pretty solid, granted I'm biased because I enjoyed the shit out of the different campaigns but I'll definitely agree that these days the overall lore and backstory for their current games feel so fucking hamfisted it's obnoxious. Not even counting how they shoe in shit like "oh yeah btw tracer is gay, have fun ecks dee" or the different character relationships which these days are barely explored. Honestly besides playing weekly for the arcade lootboxes with friends I can't even really enjoy the game much anymore because it just feels like they abandoned so much shit for just "YO ESPORTS DUDE, NO IT'S GOOD DUDE WATCH US PLS" type of shit. It's the same reason why I dropped off league for the most part and stopped bothering trying to get competitive in that game. I'm glad at the very least they keep the animated shorts a thing since that's one of the few things I'll give a shit about this year at blizzcon and maybe even a new hero.

Also from the halloween skins so far the only one I like so far is the pharah one.

They need to drop something really good and worth spending time investing in. Dangling a new map or character in people's face is basically throwing bones every now and again then doing nothing for about a few months. WE barely get any needed fixes to characters because it takes them so long to do so.

Maybe a comic that is actually interesting.
Or a character with an interesting playstyle like that Hamster.
Hammond right?

Is this real?

Her play style leads be to believe she will play like Overwatch's Lian who is also a woman with a rifle.

I saw some people comparing her to tf2 characters like scout (tho I'm not sure why tbh) or soldier cuz soldier can do a little bop jump, granted his is with a rocket but its effectively the same concept.

Scout's weapons are for the most point scatterguns not semi auto rifles. Looking at her abilities her ult seems ridiculous on paper as you can summon an ally into the battlefield. Can B.O.B be eliminated in any way?
