Overwatch

I would love to know more inside information about that split. I wonder how much was motivated by all the BS that Blizzard has apparently capitulated to.

In any case, Bungie has regained a great deal of respect from me.
I don't know if you play Destiny, but probably the reason is, ActivisionBlizzard pushed for Destiny 2 before all the content was supposed to be ready to get profit. That's why when Forsaken came out a year later there was a shit ton of activities in Destiny 2.
Also Activision didn't directly own the rights to Destiny so they couldn't profit enough from it.

Overwatch is (nearly?) 4 years old and it doesn't seem like they've added much of substance to it - just ~2 heroes a year that don't drastically change the game at all and skins to stuff into lootboxes and a few small quicky changes. I couldn't imagine launching OW, doing so little with it, and then having the balls to release an OW2 - but I guess we'll see this weekend.

fucking battleborn had more content in 6 months than OW had in over a year.

and you can bet your ass that blizzard wants people to buy the next separate product with a sequel number. it's the same company that sells mounts in a sub game while hiding behind "not enough ressources" and "it's either a mount or a raid tier", and kaplan literally lying in your face all the mean things people say keeps developers from doing any content for OW.

because bunghole is an awful developer, there are stories floating around that a simple edit takes hours because you have to de- and recompile the map every time.
bunghole sucking at gameplay systems meaning it can't be properly monetized until you do it in the most offensive and retarded way didn't help either.

apparently it does fine on steam tho, can't wait till those players get burned by the multiple season passes and time limited content.

I don't understand, why Overwatch 2?
The leaks show us that ow2 uses the exact same engine as ow now, to the point where the new hero Sojourn looks like Doomfist with white dreads.

I believe OW2 is just a battle pass, or an expansion pack for the original OW.

But Activision lost Bungie, so we will see.

They can’t ditch the core of what Overwatch is, since they painted themselves into a corner with the Overwatch League. Teams have been spending millions to prop that system up, and it’s not a good look for Blizzard if they scrapped that and made OW2 totally different. Blizzard marketing that as OW2, though, is purely a ploy to make people buy the new game and make investors happy, since the original is already 3

"One new hero", amazing. What a complete overhaul for this amazing season 2 of a game with an esports league so forced it requires a $20m buy-in.

I honestly expected some amazing world-wide league, not just 8 Asian teams using names like London Spitfires and shit.

To be fair, I think next year is when teams actually start playing in proper home and away series with respect to the cities each team is representing. There are already rumors of teams trying to “Moneyball” their roster construction because it’s suddenly a hell of a lot more expensive to run their teams, having to fly players to and from cities internationally (in addition to still not making back their initial buy-in amount, I think). The buy-in amount is crazy stupid, to be honest.

I was wrong.
It's the same game, with a campaign branded as a new game for 60$. A glorified DLC.
Same maps.
Same heroes.
Same gameplay.
Same graphics.
Same engine.

Redefining what a sequel means. You sure did.

But now there’s the shit foil hat! And ray traced snow dogs!
Edit: oh yeah and now you can customize the hero skills.

I'm really interested, but there's no way in hell I'll pay full price for what is apparently just a fleshed out version of their annual "horde mode". It helps a lot that this will apparently be the vehicle they use for finally adding some story to their game with 30 fucking characters in it, but I'm also unsure of how that's supposed to work out. Is it going to have it's own seasonal updates where a new "episode" and storyline plays out? Is it just going to be exactly like the first game where they add some silly shit that moves nothing along?

Lot of questions and no answers, which normally this far out is fine but calling it "Overwatch 2", swearing it's "not a traditional sequel" or whatever the hell they were describing it as, and then not really having anything else for anyone to really mull over. I'm hearing rumblings it might even be years out, too?

This is completely unsubstantiated, but myself and a few others watched the gameplay and trailer and we believe that Blizzard will kill Mei off to make China happy. Just by the way they show her in the trailer, she's like the first character to die in a horror movie.

People keep saying this but I don't see why China would care, her VA is the same person for both the Chinese and English language and she is a huge Chinese nationalist/apologist and only a small fraction of the fanbase is actually doing the Hong Kong shit with the character. If they were really intending to lick some Commie boot, they'd just have the character spew a bunch of shit about what good work China is doing around the world helping developing countries build infrastructure, and the game would fill it with a ton of shit to make it look like it was completely green technology to go along with the characters gimmick.

Watching the gameplay trailer, it seems like Blizzard is incorporating Borderlands features in their sequel. Class abilites, upgradable characters and loot. Something about its UI reminds me of Paladins.

I worry what will happen to the original OW; with a sequel, it could cannibalize the original game based on updates and player count. It looks like Overwatch with minimal changes.

If they want to maintain the original OW (I hope), cross play and cross progression would do wonders.

They already confirmed that OW2 will feature full PvP crossplay with OW, and OW will recieve all PvP maps and characters still, and existing cosmetics will import into OW2. Source.

I'll grab this on sale or for console used at some point cause I'm a sucker for PvE and do enjoy Overwatch from time to time, but it'll be a while for me.

Here's what they should: the people who bought the first game get a 20-50 dollar discount while everyone else pays full price (with the exceptions of sales and price drops obviously). Anyways what I had in mind for a PVE mode was something similar to Sonic Adventure one where you had a series of campaigns that connect together that culminate in a co-op campaign

They way everyone is describing it, it's really just "Overwatch 2, comes with free copy of Overwatch 1!". They emphasize the content from 1 will cross over the two and that people who own 1 will be able to crossplay with people who have the sequel. It really just sounds like they made a spin-off game that they retardedly called a sequel that is just going to come with a "free copy" of the original game. I can't imagine they'd actually allowed, say, an upgraded Tracer into the vanilla PvP mode, so everyone with both games getting the exact same PvP seems like the only explanation.
