Palworld - Everything you have ever wanted from a Pokemon game

Nobody tell Capcom that Blazehowl and Blazehowl Noct are are ripping off Teostra and Lunastra from Monster Hunter.

And especially don't tell Eiichiro Oda and Shueisha that Palworld has Devil Fruits giving humans the ability to Allahu Ahkbar Monkey D. Grookey.

Captured humans can learn skills from skill fruits.

I just wanted to get in on the Palworld copyright theft ribbing a bit. There were obvious comparisons people weren't making but clearly there's enough distinction between Palworld and Monster Hunter and One Piece.

I'm sure PocketPair took Pokemon designs, dumped them into one big pot and stirred until their legal team decided it's distinct enough, 100%. People saying "oh but it's just because they are both rabbits/wolves" are coping, we all can see what Palworld did.

The thing is... I am happy about it. Gamefreak made a ton of great designs (and a ton of garbage ones), but what they did with them?
Making them stand around like pieces of wood in boring battles with laughable, low-effort animations?
Occasionally putting them into bad minigames when you can drag and drop a piece of food to stuff it into their face?
Letting player ride one or two of them sometimes?
Making an "open world" for them where they pop in two meters from your characters, pacing back and forth lifelessly like condemnded souls wandering Asphodel Meadows?

Sure, my Pengullet buddy looks a lot like Piplup. But he can water my berries, explore the world with me, turn himself into a rocket, all of this with cute little animations that make him feel alive.
Dude, flying on the back of an alpha Beakon has been so autistically fulfilling. Who didn't want to fly on the back of the legendary birds as kids?

And that’s honestly what was so frustrating about SWSH and SV. That GF said they wanted to make everything feel distinct and then didn’t despite absolutely being able to when they are only working with like 200 mons
And just like GVH, the “parody” was massively better than the original, and fleshed things out way more.
Not so sure. Only thing they did that Pokemon did not do is you can actually see them working for you. Pokemon being put to work to get resources was something GF added in Gen 7. They automated breading and stat training in that Gen as well

That seems to be GF big problem in all of this, all of the stuff people say they want is mechanically there and possible it’s just hidden away in about 50 billion menus that you never actually need to use in the main game.

It’s very much like mon selection. They put in work for hundreds but people only give a damm about maybe 20.

They need to actually design their games to show off all the effort they put in to the stuff people are ssying they want

Well, 3 hours passed like it was nothing. Performance worries me a little because the game doesn't look anywhere near good enough to warrant running at 40-60 fps on high, and the terrain LOD has a range of like 10 meters.
Got my first jumpscare, too. Heard a noise that sounded like an AR being fired and thought I somehow had a public lobby or something and some douche was killing all my pals, but no, instead I find this dumbass' AI glitching while trying to carry stuff.
Otherwise it's pretty fucking good. Almost died during my first night because I had to scramble to craft a torch while freezing.

I've been playing for a bit and the game is quite decent. The !pokemon designs have surprised me, many of them are great, better than what gamefreak has been doing in the last decade.
It still feels very "early access" so I hope all these sales can lead for many updates in the future. And if the world is good, this will become a huge new franchise that makes tendies shit and piss their pants even more.

However, what I feel need an improvement the most is probably something that isn't going to get updates in a while. The world fucking sucks, the areas looks soulless and boring, it's very amateur, like there they just threw some assets with no though behind it.
The world by itself is not fun to explore like in BotW or Genshin, you are not going to see beautiful vistas or hidden coves. The fun of exploration is only in finding new pals, and even then, most of them are just there, the areas they are in don't feel meaningful. A better world could improve a lot imo, even the base building aspect, like finding the best looking areas to start your base.
What I fear for the future is that they are going to keep adding a lot of new pals, and just throwing them around the map with no though behind their placement.

The AI in the game is honestly dogshit. Making a base for your palls that's enclosed is pointless because the ai has a hard time pathfinding throughout player made structures. I had the same glitch happen after I spent a hour or so building this base only to find out that the AI cannot handle chests that are neatly placed up against walls.

The second you used genshin as an example, I immediately had to take a step back and become skeptical about your standards for beautiful vistas, because I hate how artificial all the landscapes in genshin looks.

Besides, its a texture and shader thing mostly anyway. Areas like the snow mountain oasis near Lily's tower or the starter lava gash where you can get Wixen early are some of the most interestingly sculpted natural landscapes I've seen in a open world game, it just needs serious retexturing and modifying shaders to actually pop out.

Im also not sure where the hidden cove complaint is coming from because Palworld is packed to the brim with them.

On the topic of visuals and performance, there's a mod over on Nexus that removes some of the post-processing and has a no-fog variant which some people might like. Seen some people say that it actually helps the frame rate a bit. I haven't tried it myself, but I'll probably slap it on once I wind up building my new base near that big mountain range/crater up north. There's an open spot at the top that gives a pretty nice view of the islands all around.

Small patch notes.

As for the AI glitch where they get stuck in “pick up the thing” mode, I’ve found that spacing out your various work stations and everything will typically fix it for the most part. When things are too close together, the ping for “go do this” keeps overlapping and canceling each other out.

Have you seen him carry things to a box? It’s hilarious.
I love every animation they have, it is so charming!

I got two working at my camp, and it says that one may not be a very good worker. I just left her be because it fits her mood well. Also,I love how they look like they just drowned when in a Hot Spring

I am having a blast so far with the game, I just got my first Direhowl with a saddle and I am exploring with it a lot

Anyone else think Grintale with it's massive size looks like Skitty and Wailord's offspring?

That would be really, really funny if that was their intent.
9 times out of 10 the pal was supposed to be a Cheshire cat lookalike and they used the fucking face of Galarian Meowth to get it, lowkey would've made galarian meowth memorable if Gamefreak did it first. :story:

As an added bonus, any mention or link to Asmongold sends anti-Palworld people insane. I recommend it if you're in a Discord where people keep repeating the same "stop having fun" rhetoric.

I don't know why people insist on playing this game on high or high+ settings.

That said, I turned down my setting a tad for better temps, and it did little. I'm wondering if it's an Unreal thing where it just uses all the headroom available regardless of settings, or maybe the graphics settings are just broken?
