People just got done explaining that "actually they (the large game companies) file patents for these game mechanics to stop evil companies from taking them and making it impossible for others to make games with those mechanics" and look how well that aged.

Another reminder that it's always morally justified to pirate Nintendo games. That's some next level fucking butthurt though, even for Nintendo.

This is why your game is already over, ripoff child. Enjoy litigation.

From what I'm hearing, it's over gameplay mechanics, not designs.
If this goes through, either results will be funny to see.
>Pocketpair wins and Nintendo gets told to fuck off
Good because anything that has Nintendo get told to eat shit is a good thing.
>Nintendo wins and sends the Pocketpair employees to Unit 731-2: Electric Boogaloo
Also funny because this will mean you are not allowed to do anything that remotely looks like Pokemon, most likely prompting other big game companies to create retarded patents and sue the shit out of any possible competitor, hopefully finally killing the game industry once and for all.

Oh great, isn't it convenient?

The game make a certain amount of money, DLCs, there's talks about the future of the game and how to handle it...

Then y'all show up.

Once the money's been had and people actually like it...

I can already see it now: "Pocketpair/PalWorld gets bought by Nintendo... Then put in the vault"

Also to any Nintendo shills: Stop while you're ahead you know damn well Nintendo is this going to screw this game over and are just being greedy fucks

I’m not really shocked Nintendo is doing this now. They probably were waiting for all the hype to die down so they could do this and hope that by then people would be busy playing whatever other FOTM game was attracting the attention of the masses so people wouldn’t notice/care about this.

I've never played Palworld but isn't the game just Rust with gun wielding Pokemon? There's nothing in Pokemon that's like that.
I think the sort of thing they might be trying to sue for would be specific 1:1 implementations of things in Pokemon like IVs, natures, egg groups, shininess, or hidden abilities as examples.
I'm not really familiar with Palworld so I dunno how many of those they might have implemented exactly the same; but from friends talking about the game, I think there are some mechanics like that which are implemented 1:1.

I figured it would happen sooner or later, Nintendo would find some excuse. Ironic that it isn’t designs, but some patent instead.

Palworld has always been pretty much everything I wanted Pokémon to be in the past, but more; I really hope it doesn’t kill the future of the game.

Holy shit that cratered hard. Real shame since it's pretty cool and good, I hope this kicks up a complete shit storm though and massively backfires.

Id be really surprised if anything comes of this. Nintendo took 9 months to respond. The money is already made, the dissemination of the game has already happened. At some point their patent doesnt really matter anymore if they dont defend it. Hopefully the courts dont fuck up the devs for this, although if they regionlocked palworld to exclude japan that would be funny.
