They went for a minimalist interpretation of both states and population size. The Americas had both more states and people.

I havent followed EU5 that closely. Can you still form a pirate republic in it? Also, I presume events will fire to cause the Onin War/Sengoku period in Japan? Those were some of my favorite runs.

You can form pirate republics, which are Navy-based countries and as them it's a game over if your navy gets wiped out.

I will check it out once they rework the war, means of acquiring war score and peace treaties. It's so garbage and frustrating it ruins everything else the game has going for it.

My underlying problem with EUV is I'm sorry but the new ui scheme and map look like total dogshit slop. I absolutely detest this new art direction they are going with. Everything is way over the top and colorful and animated and uses way too many resources.

Can't remember which one off the top of my head, but one of the YTers who has access to the preview build has said you can some of that shit off in the options, which also helps performance. There'll also likely be a ton of UI/map mods so you can get it exactly how you prefer it.
