Here's hoping the air designer doesn't suck ass and we can actually have fun with it.
Despite the possibility of multi-roles I suspect it'll end up exactly like the naval/tank designers where hyper focusing on one aspect per design (stacking light attack on cruisers, stacking breakthrough on tanks etc) becomes the default.

Anyway I know kinda late , but Pdx is doubling prices of CK3 dlcs
Doubling the price of future flavour packs is bad, doubling the price of existing ones (especially as they're already considered borderline not worth it for the content you get) is utter bullshit. I also love how the ambassador dropped this and then noped the fuck outta the forums and hasn't been back since, gotta love that community engagement.

Paradox only likes interacting with their game communities if it has nothing but pure praise for the company.

Victoria 3 release date October 25th 2022
I'm really enjoying all these trailers where the gameplay is literally just watching animations on a map.
Maybe pdx drones are right and Paradox manages to capture mythical wider audience and it will be hit.
It's what they got with HoI4- that was their first big "meme" release, where you had a small core of the HoI2/3 playerbase and then 90% of purchases by people who had never heard of Paradox before and have maybe 10 hours total on their Steam library after five years. It's easy to watch and "get" compared to something like CK2 or EU4, where the UI is very elegantly designed but requires you to hit more than a single button.

CK3 was the next big soy market release, and obviously so. The UI is now terrible for anyone playing more than an hour a week, but for those who have never played anything but a console or maybe flash games on a laptop in high school it's amazing. Add your meme shit like constant incest, big boobie naked player characters, and the constant cookie-clicker gameplay it's a big success.

Vicky 3 will be the same. I haven't played the leak, but I doubt it holds a candle up to Vicky 2, and from what I've seen of the UI it's a repeat of CK3. It even has 3D models for everything. That means only one thing- a move to light RPG elements over actual strategy. As an analogy, it's Fallout 3 vs 4/76- going from a very slightly inaccessible casual experience to a completely accessible Call of Duty clone with base building and light RPG elements.

some guy just started an argument in the comment section of the new stellaris dlc trailer
it's kinda funny.

EU IV 1.34 patch is out, and it works just as everyone except plebbitors (WAOH, Nordic Sweden in 1500s, Teutonic Order Steppe Horde, SO WACKY!!!) expected

Some of the changes seem interesting, but some of them just feel like "Our design lead said to change this meta, and these tweaks sounded good on paper, but we're not wasting money on play-testers. That's what you guys are for." That's Paradox for you.

I'm still playing some Anbennar runs, so until that's updated, probably won't even bother with 1.34. At least it doesn't look as dire as Leviathan was (low bar, I know.)

The Italian dlc for HOI4 just released today and it looks like the reworked peace conference mechanic has kept the fun AI border gore peace borders intact.

Also they somehow managed to make CAS even more broken.

Its not bad so far. Now it really feels like the old DLC's are really falling behind IE canada and south africa trees.

Has anyone here tried Terra Invicta yet it looks super fun.

Its got a ways to go. One of the biggest issues is your attention gets massively split between Earth and the rest of the solar system pretty early on, and that's not good because you've got less ability than XCOM to do shit about the steadily advancing alien invaders, and you also need to engage in a shadow war against everyone trying to exploit the crisis for their own goals, either good or bad. You also have six operatives (councilors) max to do shit with, a mere four at start, two coming with tech, and if you're lucky two more you can snag as turncoats, but there's eight factions max (including the aliens), so you need to deal with 7 other assholes doing the same thing you're doing, so you don't have the manpower on hand, and you need to get into space and start gathering resources and tech, and that's no fun because shocker, there's no magic wand there. If it was just Earth and Luna it would be manageable, but I've barely gotten in and already I ran face first into a wall.

Oh, you're also dependent on the entire world (which means your enemies as well) teching up collectively before you can do your own super-special research projects (and there's only three of those projects running at the same time) and fuck that shit. The tech system is like Paradox mana, but worse since its a collective pool of everyone's research mana and everyone gets it all at the same time...

I looked up Terra Invicta and there apparently has been this boom of knockoff Paradox games. Are any of them good?

There's one called Old World that's a knockoff of Civilization but with Crusader Kings-style dynastic mechanics.

One called Espiocracy that's a Cold War espionage game, maybe can't call it a grand strategy game because it's just espionage-focused. Could be a good competitor to the board game Twilight Struggle.
