One thing i really fucking hate in vicky 3 is that there are no firms to influence you or be influenced by your policies.
It would have been nice but there was no reason to expect them to include it.
It's a little hard thinking how you would simulate firms. I figure might start with the idea that under certain conditions, there would be a tendency towards concentration of industry. I don't know what specific things would trigger that, but it would cause firms to sometimes spawn in as the owners of buildings (Pops could own the firms shares), which would have their own autonomous investment pools and could both horizontally and vertically integrate. If the firm gets big enough, it spawns a CEO character with traits (Rothschild, Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Morgan, Rhodes, Tiffany). The firm will lobby for whatever it wants (effects legislation chances, say), maybe also lobby for privileges (things too minute in detail to represent as laws, but like a slider that just makes the firm do better at other firms' expense, or at workers or the state revenues or consumers expense), and they can sometimes give events.

It's really much more easily said than done. But I do feel that the whole concept of adding in characters was half-baked and missing robber barons (except as goofy "Industrialist leaders") is missing part of the point, and the game in its current state (from what I've read) completely fails to capture the brutality of the Industrial Revolution. Labor war - strikes, violent repression of unions that sometimes turns into terror campaigns and guerilla wars, company towns as a form of de facto enslavement - should be a major part of the game but is just missing.

Is it me or was it weird that most reviews for Vicky 3 were the "game reviewer" playing some commie/leftist shit, like the PC Gamer review was the guy playing like anarchist USA or someshit. Just seems weird when that seems common with a lot of jounro reviews for that game, as for the game itself, I only play it multiplayer with a small group of friends and it's normally pretty fun, but if HOi4 MP is anything to go by, public multiplayer is an autistic hellhole.

Wait, hoi4 has public multiplayer? I must have blocked it out of my mind/memory like some kind of traumatic event.

No, I don't find it weird. It was about as predictable as the tides.

I find it really funny that the feature preview for CK3's 1.8.0 update was basically just "We put some new art in the game for religious tenets. Oh, and we updated the bookmarks page! (to show what DLCs we put out so you can buy them!) I guess it's better than the October one where it was just the studio lead blogging (and then a mod telling people in the comments to be nice or else.)

I've used it for years and years and haven't had any issue at all. I don't know the exact specifics of how it works, but I believe it really only fools the game's check to see if you own the DLC (and you need the files in there, anyway). Steam still thinks you don't have any of them bought and will show them as available on the library page (thanks Gabe.) Keep in mind that you'll need to put the api files in both the game's folder and the Paradox launcher folder for their games, though.

I used to use it a fair amount for Total War Warhammer 2 (because fuck CA), and paradox games, and never had any issues, although these days I actually find pirating them easier tbh.
Thanks dudes youre both da real mvps.

Personally, I would make it so it's a matter of what the specific industry sector is, to represent the most pre-eminent character in a particular field. 1 person to represent all Tooling Workshops, 1 person to represent all Shipyards, 1 person to represent all Cotton Plantations, etc.

I also would implement specific lobbies for large minority groups, both in ethnicity and religion.

Games media just leaning into political tardfights for clicks. Probably some bias at play.

I've been wondering why I haven't played Cities: Skylines more. I've played SimCity 4: Rush Hour far more than I ever played Cities: Skylines, and I think this actually encapsulates why. Well, that and the game's horrible DLC policy. Most of the shit in these DLCs is stuff that should have been in the base game or offered with a free update, like they did when they finally added the ability to create tunnels.
And the game runs like ass. If you have even a paltry amount of mods (and you should because all the vanilla assets are rubbish) the game still eats up >8GB just by loading, even if you're using another mod that was made specifically to reduce the RAM requirements for loading in the first place.
they recruited a TNO "developer"
That explains why the game is blatant communist propaganda.

Tried playing some more Elder Kings 2. It's pretty fun, though still feels a little bare-bones. But it's basically v1.01, so hopefully it'll get more fleshed out over time. I was up in Orsinium when I got notified that the rebellion against the Imperial Potentate failed, so I scrolled down and saw this:
Goblin Imperial City.jpg
I don't know enough about the lore to say this couldn't happen, but it does feel like this timeline is now cursed. The funniest part is that since the fort level is so absurdly high, nobody can do anything about it.
In other total conversion news, After the End got a beta release for CK3. It seems like some of the religious/cultural mechanics aren't implemented completely (couldn't do anything regarding patrons/blessings as an Atomicist, for example), but the project seems like it's shaping up pretty well. I enjoyed the mod back in CK2, so I hope it does well in CK3, and it seems like they're making good use of the new Religions/Faiths/Cultures systems.
