So, anyone have throughts on the Biogensis DLC for Stellaris to offer? The new wilderness origin highly interests me and I heard bioships can be powerful in unique ways compared to normal shipsets

The DLC itself is pretty solid. I like the origins and late game options, but the EU4 issue of late DLC power creep is becoming a thing. Basically theres no reason to not pick Synth or Bio species now if you plan on having a competitive game as theyve both been made op by their expansions. And psionics look to be next to get the overcorrection treatment.

The problem is you have to play the new patch to play the dlc. And the patch has broken the game. Theyre on update 18 for the patch with no signs of stopping. So yeah, DLC is ok. But the price is you cant play the game anymore.

Once upon a time there were easy default focus tree nations like Argentina, Turkey fucking Spain even. Now I think the best and simplest nation for a beginner is allied Canada. The focus tree isn't complicated and you can fuck around while not worrying about invasions and shit. You also get a dank industry and decentish manpower.

CK2 UI turns me off because I'm a newfag. Maybe Vic2 or Darkest Hour, never really gave them a shot.
The CK2 UI is very accessible, to the point once you learn it you realize how much of a pointless downgrade CK3's was. If the CK2 UI filtered you, Vic 2 and Darkest Hour are going to give you Adderall withdrawal.

A nice game to pass the time, and there's a ton of mods. Be prepared for the atrocious diplomacy.
pardon the doublepost

For those looking to try out the DH modding scene, it's still semi-active, with many of the big mods updated every few years. Despite Kaiserreich being the most famous DH mod (and still has some people unofficially working on it), I'd say the best DH mod is The Bonaparte Legacy, which was last updated in 2023. There's also a Fallout mod, also last updated in 2023. Another mod I'd shoutout would be The Great Shattering Illusion, which is probably the most recent of the big DH mods but unfortunately seems to be discontinued as of last year.

I'd say try historical Italy first, you are a strong nation with good industry so you can play around with all the game aspects and if you fuck up you have friendly Germany to do the heavy lifting for you. Also you have to fuck up really bad to do worse than AI Italy (remember to leave small detachments to protect your Italian ports from allied invasions, that's how AI always dies). Starting war with Ethiopia is an OK way to learn basics of fighting since they are fairly weak and you get a feedback from the escalation events and know how well you are doing (you get rewards for good progress and penalties for stalling). Even if you do badly in that war you can restart the game without much progress loss (many countries have to wait till 1939 or later for the war).

Thank God, I didn't want to be Canada

Another good thing about Italy is that if you play on historical nobody is going to declare war on you . So you can join war when you are ready.
