What are your expectations for the EU5 release?

It's been the opposite experience for me. Of all the old soundtracks from when EU4 released, the only one that really stuck out to me was the menu theme, and that's just because it was harder to ignore than the others. EU4's ost to me was generally uninspired, either as a period sample or as a good strategy listening. The first soundtrack that prominently featured harpsichords in a game set during the height of European art music was the Castle of Versailles, which was released as part of Domination in 2024 - over a decade since the game's launch (I guess you could say Alba did briefly but half of it makes me feel like I'm playing a fantasy rpg, not a strategy game). In general the soundtracks I see people talk the most about in EU4 that aren't very out of place heavy metal or some Scandinavian drunkenly singing all came in the later half of the game's lifecycle. I like that EU5's ost, what's been released at least, involves more harmonies and somber music, as it's a decent change of pace from EU4's generally scattershot ost.

That said, none of Paradox's osts have surpassed CK2 to this day.
I've reached the point where I don't play Paradox games with audio on especially when I'm playing in the evening before bed.

It's less addicting, I can listen to something else, and I don't have it playing in my head when I'm trying to sleep because I was playing for three hours before bed.

Do any other autistic niggas here actually, like... narrate their games like its a Ken Burns documentary?
Not like a documentary, more like a very hype streamer. It's funny cause I'm a quiet guy IRL - but when playing paradox-games, rimorld and the like, I keep a monolouge about what's happening. Sorta like "Poland-Lithuania wants to enter a union with me? Ohoh nonono I THINK YOU KNOW WHERE TO SHOVE THAT ya DAFT cunts" et cetera. It feels stupid, but that's whats entertaing to me. Sometimes I even start thinking how I would make it more engaging and fun for the "audience" which is plain silly.

Good videos from youtubers with access to the latest builds:
Playmaker confirms AI sucks ass. In everything - army, economy, diplo you name it. Game is too hard for it. He gets to a point where he is able to recruit professional army and has more professional troops than the whole world combined. Playmaker basically rolls over the AI that can't transition into professional army from levies. He says that fighting AI in EU5 past 1465 is easier than fighting EU4 natives which is brutal. He keeps saying he played the early version but looking at the rest of paradox titles I remain skeptical if they will be able to make AI compete before release. The easiest fix would be making the AI just cheat but that's an easy way out.

You forgot to mention that he said that this happened as a result of Paradox tweaking the economy to be harder for the player and this resulting in the AI getting fucked over by it. He said that the AI was spending most of its money on forts and was unable to keep up with professional armies, and that this wasn't an issue in earlier builds. The AI might be undercooked on launch but modders can always buff them.

I mentioned that game is too hard for AI. EU5 was too hard for AI before change too because they had to nerf the player eco because player snowballing and making the AI even worse in the process. That's just another cope from playmaker just like "I say bad things but it's just early build guys!" so he can keep his paradox access. Ultimately we will see on release but it ain't looking good.

Imperator is 7$ on GOG. Should I finally play it? I don't intend to use mods if that makes a difference.
It is a good game, albeit one that never got finished and is appropriately rough around the edges. Be warned though, manpower is hard to come by.

I know you dont want to use mods, but I have to suggest the Invictus mod. It more or less "finishes" the game's content, and its still getting updates. The Greece DLC is probably worth it as well if its also on sale.

Something I noticed when rereading a thread on the paradox forums about the hardware requirements is that they are the minimum/recommended specs for running the game at minimum settings 1080p and 30fps/ultra settings 4k and 60fps at speed 5.

That is kind of a good thing, running the game at max settings on speed one and running it at max settings on speed 5 are vastly different things. Graphics are not the real bottleneck of a Paradox game, but the actual game logic.
