from a discussion about religion in modern America-
I find no coincidence in the metrics of birth being 3 children to 1 woman, on average, in areas where religion, culture, and state structure has aligned around the same thing. Whatever that thing is. Nor do I find major coincidence in the fact that atheists and agnostics have the lowest birthrates. If life isn't precious, cause when you die you die, why have another child? The way memes have been programming young liberals for a decade is by describing life as a giant pointless, yet somehow also terrifying and inevitably painful, mess of disconnected fibers all struggling for dominance. The reality that the more immortal religions such as Buddhism and Christianity teach you is that all things are interconnected, on a continuum, in discourse with eachother and themselves. Like an organ comprised of tissues that accepts that it is, indeed, an organ, separate from the body, but operates as a key part of it, and organs that accept that their rolls are different but also that they are part of a greater body. Even farther, we get an ecosystem that works together, with all things in their place, but needing to balance together all the same. Life breeds death and death breeds life, it's a beautiful cycle in which all things play their perfect roll. But what we've seen since the enlightenment and, frankly, the birth of modernity in general, is a rheumatism in both the global ecosystem and in individual economies. Where parts of the body no longer recognize eachother. One can see this brewing in The Troubles in Ireland but then having a real theater of battle in the United States Gang Wars. We're seeing an even bigger rheumatism between the Slavic countries now, despite having the same faith, same ethnicity, same language. We're seeing two halves of an organ going to war with itself. We no longer view eachother as necessary to the greater equation. We have our white blood cells completely out of control, causing inflammation where it doesn't belong and ignoring the tumors that are sapping the body to create something both malignant, foreign, and full independent from the rest of the body of mankind. Like any tumor, it's only functioning off of a viral programming, to never know when to stop taking, and to have taken so much that there's no longer any chance of balance being restored outside of drastic means. But the tumors are metastasizing, sending new tumor seeds out, all over the body, which are armed and ready to overtake the local immune systems. This can't be helped. But what can be helped now is our rheumatism. If we recognize that we're part of something greater, that ignores ephemeral differences to focus on fundamental likeness. Recognizing we can't change what doesn't budge but not giving up on it, letting the situation flow. Having the wisdom to know where best and how to coordinate. Taking the steps we need to eventually course correct, and by some miraculous chance, some thread of holiness might burst out of a tumor, viscera and flames abounding, to aid the righteous in their war to retake the body of mankind, to reunify and strengthen that which we all are a part of.
