Looked for a thread, didn't find one. Anyone else play? Let me know if you do or if you're down to start. Looking for some people to play with.

It's a neat little Dungeon Crawler, like Diablo- but made better by all the lessons learned by the genre since then. I'm currently playing a Duelist, which is essentially (from how I read the class) a dodgetank/dps hybrid. I should post screens of my skill tree, come to think of it.

Lots of neat little touches, like the fact that you don't have to go out and buy potions from a store or anything. They just recharge when you kill dudes! How neat is that? I think it's pretty neat, anyhow.

EDIT: my skill tree is attached.

It's a very well-designed hack'n slash, quite a challenge to play. I don't play it anymore because it is too grimdark for my taste.

I watched some dude (Mrllamasc) speedrun Diablo II on AGDQ 2016 in January. Then I found his YT channel where I watched him play D2 some more. That made me recall that apparently Path of Exile exists, is free to play and is reportedly quite good.

So I started playing it this February. It's definitely confusing in the beginning, with no traditional currency and no tutorials of any kind, as if it assumed you were a Diablo II veteran. Things like potions recharging on killing enemies are very nice.

I'm a witch now. I resorted to using some guide to make sure I don't mess up my passive skill forest too much. Figuring out the gear and skill gem placement on my own is enough work already. The passives detailed in the guide orient me towards using exclusively totems to deal damage (I use a keystone passive that literally makes me unable to deal damage in any other way). And most of the points go into strength, which makes sense to me, because in Diablo II you would dump most of your points into vitality to boost your survivability. I even picked up a passive that gets rid of all my mana and makes me cast spells from hit points, which is cool because I no longer have to worry about mana.

The gameplay is pretty fun, but I feel like the game may be too easy. I only died about 3-4 times on normal difficulty, and I believe not once in the final act. That must be because I use a ranged character with good mobility, so most of the time I'm out of enemies' reach. And even when you do die, you respawn with all your gear at the start of the area. I'm sorry, but that's just making things too easy for players.

I'm currently in Act 3 on Cruel difficulty without a single death on that difficulty. Hopefully Merciless will be tougher. So far I haven't met any enemy that would be completely immune to any single element.

Necroing this thread because it's criminal a game as good as Path of Exile doesn't have more discussion. I've never played a game where the devs manage to impress me every 3 months. Every league is good, which is surprising. Some are more forgettable than others, but they're all fun. It seems like the devs have accepted that clear speed meta is not going away and they're not completely destroying the top builds every league. Now they just shift what build is optimum for each league. This time around they revamped some of the older skills that just couldn't keep up with the new ones and redid traps. Also, the build-your-own-dungeon is a nice touch and the Temple of Atzoatl is really fun. Boss is a little easy compared to the difficulty of the dungeon in general, though.

I used to play many moons ago (witch was my character) but got gradually bored with hack and slash games. It was definitely one of the better ones out there, and easily the best ftp game I was into at the time. Might just reinstall it again and fuck around. See if the updates have changed much. Really loved the skill system in it also

Just started playing again after a hiatus; rolled a phys melee marauder w/ sunder.
Since I used to play what was an (poor) attempt at totem templar, being able to facetank feels real good.
Anyway, if anyone wants to group up or whatever feel free to shoot me a pm.

New Ultimatum league is looking pretty good. Perhaps good enough to necro this here thread. Anyone else gonna be playing it?

Any gamers going to play 3.20? I'm probably not no-lifing or anything this time around (I have like 6k hours in this godamn game), but it looks more fun than the last couple leagues. Shoot me a PM or whatever if you want to join muh guild.

I was not gonna bother and wait for PoE2, but as stupidly bloated and messy as PoE is, it is the best ARPGs can get still as long as the devs stop fucking up.

I heard last league was a trash fire so if I bounce off current league then so be it I'll just go back to playing against the storm or maybe keep going in Grim Dawn.

Probably starting righteous fire but im not sure if I want to do Juggernaut or Inquisitor. I want to run a tornado shot build more but from what I remember starting a ranged build in a new league is pain. Last league I was active was Ultimatum and the cyclone build I had was shockingly good so I could complete most content up to Sirius. I hope they moved Heist to the corner more since getting drops for it annoyed the hell out of me, I can't stand seeing that league mechanic.

I feel the same. Grim Dawn is an admirable effort and I really wanted to like it, but its design feels antiquated in a bad way. You don't fully appreciate how much freedom PoE's skill gem system gives you until you go back to a game with traditional skill trees. Having to continually invest points into your skills to keep them useful is incredibly limiting, and although PoE's combat sort of devolves into a lawn mowing simulator after a point, the production values do make it feel impactful and fun to watch, at least.

I wish another developer would build off of PoE's core concepts without the bloat and lessening the grind. In my opinion, the fun of ARPGs is in coming up with crazy and unique build concepts rather than farming until you're even able to engage with half the game's mechanics.

I got suckered back in after not having really played since Delve, did a week in Kalandra, too. The mechanical bloat is insane right now, as @Peasant and @Mobster Monitor already mentioned, and i'm only playing again since i don't have to work the next couple of weeks, the game demands a huge time investment if you want to get anywhere end-game.

Edit: Going Poison Seismic Sab because i'm a cuck. Wish there was some GG bow build to play instead.

20k people in queue before me right now.

I played a bit and I'm having fun for whatever it is worth. I have played since release but only seriously every other (other) league since Ambush.

The loot drop reward reworks that fixed magic culling from Kaladra seem to be really nice. To me base league experience seems really really solid. At regular intervals some nice things will drop, occassionally a cluster of 6 sockets, and 6 link drops have dropped more then I remember. I havent even gotten a flat currency drop of more then a chaos or a handful of fusings yet.

Also rolling in socket and fusing currency, though that is mostly due to league mechanic. League mechanic isnt as horrible as everyone says but it isn't great. Being able to choose your own reward is cool since I'm already very close to getting enough fusings to recipe 6L my gear without needing to convert my stash of jewelers. It isn't super engaging or rewarding otherwise I feel beyond that, doesn't give many rewards to help crafting that I've seen yet and doesnt have previous league based drops besides cards (and fucking heist contracts).

Melee is slightly gimped in league mechanic too due to resolve. Running molten shield on left click does absorb some of the fast weak shots though which helps immensely. I'm even running a meleeish tanky semi low dps build and have fulled cleared twice while only being on yellow maps. Totems is probably easy mode with league mechanic.

I'm not sure when the new atlas skill tree came in but I love it. Helps a lot with the content bloat. I never understood why GGG keeps shit like the very obtrusive heist league around with their un droppable quest items that constantly drop yet delete quick and simple stuff like ultimatum. But the atlas skill tree now lets me not only delete heist and other mechanics I dont want to see from my mapping, but makes everything else better when I do that.

Long and short of it all is, base game at least feels good. Sanctum is ignorable (kinda) if you bounce off it.

Edit: A friend wanted me to add that Duelist feels absolutely pathetic in almost every ascension and playstyle. Unless you want to meme flickerstrike but in that case you know what you're getting into.

I stopped playing after that crappy garden league, I think it was harvest. I occasionally check back on how its doing and the sheer bloat it has since i quit is mind boggling, it was bad 2 years ago. I had to keep notes for yourself and plan ahead if I wanted some mechanics to be worthwhile. Now? fuck that.

I just hit 91 on my Poison Seismic Sabo, haven't played daily but am already tired of the game again. I think the league mechanic is dogshit and even worse than last league's, haven't touched it since the second day. Base game feels much better than last league, rolling in currency and halfway in my end-game gear already (around 6 div investment by now, with 3 div just for the Devouring Diadem, 1 div on an amulet i just bought, prices are even more retarded than last league), drops are noticeably better. Still, it's the same old gameplay loop as the last league for me, as the league mechanic once again fails to shake things up enough to make a difference.
I give it a week and then i'll probably quit, game really isn't doing it for me anymore, which is a shame because there's no other loot-based hack and slash that comes even close to PoE.
the sheer bloat
It's fucking ridiculous how bad it has become. So much shit that should've never made it core, unreal.

The mechanic bloat by the time I quit three years was already insane. I cannot imagine how it is now. What I'll give for them to toss half of it into the trash and start over with a streamlined game. (They won't of course, too much money went into those gimmick supporter items that they'd probably get into legal trouble if they nixed any of it.)
