Pathfinder: Kingmaker (Official Site Here: https://owlcatgames.com/news) is a video game adaption of the popular Pathfinder Adventure Path, set to release on September 25th, 2018 for the PC.

The game is being developed by new studio Owlcat Games, and is being published by Deep Silver, the world's least picky publisher. It has the official backing of Paizo, and is to my knowledge the first "real" video game set in the Pathfinder universe that uses the proper rules. It features the writing talents of one Chris Avellone, Living Stretch Goal and RPG Community Bicycle (Still love him, though.)

You can find a pretty comprehensive list of features, changes, what's included from the tabletop version, stuff like that, here: https://owlcatgames.com/forums/showthread.php?19-Information-known-about-the-game-so-far (Warning: Some Spoilers)

-------

So I found out about this game a couple of weeks ago when it was featured on the GOG main page. Apparently it had a succesful Kickstarter campaign a few years ago that nobody in my circle talked about at all. I don't like Pathfinder much, really, but this caught my eye and I'm tentatively interested in it.

Looks like weeb.5 has managed to make it to the big leagues. Still a clusterfuck though.

Theoretical question: if you buy one the 4 (yes 4) version how much would Paixo get? Because fuck Paizo, i kinda like the campaign setting but hell if i give them money and you should inform yourself on the scumbags/sjws they are

Me and a friend backed this for physical copies. This was before we knew anything about KS or how KS games usually turn out. Can't wait to see how burned I get.

Is it also true Paizo has a history of fucking over folks that make 3rd party or even 1st party material for them?

Yes that was the scumbag part i referred to, as for the Sjw part it started early with them making Asmodeus, the living embodiment of Lawful Evil, into a misogynist and evey of their iconic characters into bisexuals and their push down into further Sjwism has continued since. I recommend watching the channel Weaponized Nerd Rage video on Paizo latest exploit in sjw and soydom because it's better you hear it

I have briefly read some of their current campaign adventure books and the one with Taldor making into a Sexist society that needs a reform felt abit cringy as in the World Setting it wasn't described as that for Taldans being more up their asses and being an empire and people in decline akin to the Romans or Byzantines.

Make your own lore and don't buy shit splat books.

As for the game: is this their MMO that's been in alpha forever?

Couldn't find anything detailing where the money goes exactly, but I think it's fair to assume that Paizo gets a cut. If you want to play it without potentially giving them money, best options are waiting for a sale or pirating it. Also, yes, this game has far too many versions, however thankfully unless you really want virtual pets and hats or physical maps and artbooks you can safely ignore them.

Nah. This is a CRPG like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights. I always found the real-time but also turn based those games had odd, but this game has a potentially clever solution with it's Turn-Based mode, which just pauses the game every time a new turn starts.

They did what? That i wasn't aware of and boy it sounds absolutely stupid

I might torrent the splatbooks to see what i like and like lore wise, i was and am thinking of keeping what i think can isn't unredeemably bad and change what is utterly crap to something that works better that i think i could recruit others so the changes aren't unilaterally changed

If you don't mind /tg/ go there, go into catalog view and ctrl-f "PDF Share" and you'll find all the collections /tg/ knows about. I'm not a pathfinder dude, but my understanding of their main setting is that:
A) It's a janky kitchen sink setting. Every nation exists to fit a theme and things like geopolitics or consistency be damned.
B) There's a lot of SJW flourishes to the lore everywhere.

This seems to be a recent trend. A lot of stuff (Video Games,Table Top Games, Comics) seem to be suffering from it.
To put politely it really gets on my nerves, i wonder wha the next thing they will force in after they stop forcing sjwisms and if it will be worse

Part of me really hates to give Paizo anything (I routinely DL sourcebooks, etc, or buy them secondhand).

Then I see something like this:

-You will be able to be evil, but it will be a cruel and cunning "smart evil" such as talking two enemies into killing each other, rather than just asking for more money as a quest reward. The Creative Director once suggested how much easier it would be to rule a kingdom of undead, than living, breathing citizens; because living citizens have all sorts of complaints about life, and hunger, and so on. The undead just obey. And are (usually) quiet. Except the zombies. Also, the design policy is not to have being Evil cut you off from content to punish them, but to balance content across all alignments.

God fucking dammit. That's actually clever. It'd be nice to play an evil campaign where I was more than just a raging asshat.

So thoughts/opinions? Got up to becoming a baron. Game feels pretty alright, would have preferred turn based but I played a lot of NWN so it's fine. I think a lot of the difficulty complaints are from people that don't know how unforgiving dnd combat can be.

Haven't played it myself yet, honestly. I've been waiting for the bugs that somehow got left in for release to be patched. I did make some sample characters, and some of the changes they made are actually pretty interesting.

And yes, if anyone is unaware, the current big thing with this game right now is that it is punishingly difficult, though the devs are supposedly working on that also.

It's true, some of the fights are really hard, but after trying a few times or so you just go "meh, I'll come back to this later". The first main quest does have a time limit of 3 months, but even after doing literally everything I could and exploring every path I still had 50+ days left.

I'd be more excited but POE 1 and 2 as well as Tyranny being mediocre at best have me a bit burnt out on CRPGs

It's not that clever. You could tweak a few options in the menu in the Infinity Engine games to do that exact thing.

Sorry for the necro, but has anyone played Kingmaker since they added turn-based mode? I've been playing a fresh run after I saw that update go live, and I've been enjoying it 100% more than the real-time combat.
