Pathfinder: Kingmaker - From Tabletop to Desktop

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Sorry for the necro, but has anyone played Kingmaker since they added turn-based mode? I've been playing a fresh run after I saw that update go live, and I've been enjoying it 100% more than the real-time combat.
Lol, I forgot I had this thread on watch. I haven't played it with official turn based support, only with the mod, but it made the game much better.

Nope. Might go back and fuck with it sometime, not sure.

I’m playing this now. It’s fun, but some of the timing events are annoying when they throw like ten problems or whatever at you. Turn based makes it a bit easier but not overly much.

pillars is fun, too.

A bit off topic but has anyone else played the alpha for Wrath of the Righteous yet? It's definitely more fast paced than Kingmaker and the companions as a whole are a lot better.

Honestly, I don't think the tabletop system translates well to desktop. Some things do like the story that unfolds with skill checks and saving throws, but a 20 level cap just feels insanely low for a PC RGP.

That's a bit why I lost interest. The actual Kingdom stuff is pretty shallow and I found myself only looking forward to the next level....which starts to take awhile.

I preferred Kingmaker to either of the Divinitys or Pillars games. OS2 was great up until the end of Reaper's Coast, after that I felt the game became more and more rushed and less and less interesting. Pillars 1 & 2 were both mediocre, though in different ways.

Kingmaker's quailty also falls off after a certain point but it was still entertaining and enjoyable from beginning to end.

I tried pathfinder but hated how being a good character got you a party of women with the gay woke baggage they carried.

Playing through Original Sin 2 now but not feeling it. Funny enough Pillars is the only one I some what enjoyed but never finished.

Funny enough the only modern CRPGs I've finished are the ones that Brian Fargo's jank factory pumps out.

I played CN, but then called bullshit how lawful got the much better bulletin board building option.

Pillers of eternity is better
Deadfire was mediocre as fuck. Kingmaker was a buggy mess at launch but it's actually very fun now that the bug fixing patches and updates are out. Not revolutionary by any means but it does a few interesting things.

Turn based mode was a god send for this game. I never understood why tabletop crpg have to be RTwP when on pc except baldur gate did it first. If you absolutely have to, have a shred of fucking mercy and include a slow mode like poe did to actually able to keep track of million things happening all at once.
The only down side was this game was obviously designed with RTwP in mind and turn base added in later. The encounters dragged on and on making an already long game more tedious to play.

Did they not add an option to switch to RTwP on the fly? I know the mod had that. Easy fight you can blow though? Just hit a button and you're in real time mode again.

Yeah, it's just a button on the UI and it swaps back into RTwP mode.

I'm not experience enough to know which fight is easy enough to do that yet. I'm just fighting some giant centipedes in a cave and suddenly the bard drop dead because her dex got reduce to 0 or some shit.

For what it's worth I enjoyed the game a lot more after modding it. There's some good stuff on the Nexus that adds tons of classes and abilities and whatnot. Kingdom management remains dumb though.
