Pathfinder: Kingmaker - From Tabletop to Desktop

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
For what it's worth I enjoyed the game a lot more after modding it. There's some good stuff on the Nexus that adds tons of classes and abilities and whatnot. Kingdom management remains dumb though.
That was my only major letdown, the actual kingdom stuff. What a shame.

Since nobody made a thread for the new game. I'll just ask here.

How full of woke faggotry is in the new game?

I'm playing it now. It's fine.

There's a handful of things I'm sure pearl-clutching faggots will cry about but everything I can think of is something you'd have to go out of your way to find and is handled decently.

One of the female characters is trans, but actually straight up switched sex which has been a thing in D&D and Pathfinder for ages and was a joke in Baldur's Gate 2 with Edwin, so it gets a pass. That same trans woman is also married to a woman. That's about all I could find and neither was handled badly like in Siege of Dragonspear.

Been some time since I finished Kingmaker, so I forgot this was the type of game where conjurers will spawn infinite foes

I like the concept of you starting in a city under siege, similar to Vermintide, but tonally it's a bit weird. You've got a city watch completely oblivious to the fact that there's a shit ton of cultists in the city, guess they shouldn't have given that task to the lesbians, companions who seem a bit too cheerful and smug as the city is being ravaged by demons, a tavern as a holdout where they are playing loud music with all the lights on and the tavern keeper is still serving drinks, some of the scene transitions are clumsy, I'm still not entirely sure what happened as you went from the garrison to the tavern. It feels like they didn't know what opening to go for, so they just slapped all of them togheter, you start the game wounded with no memory of how it happened, but then they let you wander a festival while still needing a doctor, then you fall into a cavern where you immediately run into the the local sewer chuds and find a long lost mythical sword, then you end up in a large cultist den that's also beneath the city, and the den is right below the city garrison.

So you go festival, underground caves, ancient tomb, mongrel village, cultist den, garrison. All within the first 20 minutes

I 'm still at the tutorial stage and the sequel game's writing seems pretty shit. Lots of exposition speeches about high fantasy shit. The original game opened up to just a band of people raiding the stolen lands and mostly kept that exposition in optional dialogue and notes. That and this game has Joss Whedon dialogue for the companions. Blegh. This game might be hell.

I'm going to do an evil playthrough as a Half-orc Wildlands Shaman but I'll won't pick Lich mythic since that's a popular choice apparently. So maybe Swarm-that-Walks or Devil. I dunno.

It gets much better, trust me. The tutorial area in general is a pretty poor representation of the game in my opinion.

from what I remember that goes all the way back to the source, ironically the person responsible was the very same one from dragonspear. just look up some reviews of the worldwound incursion.

Holy shit, you're right, they're both Amber Scott. Guess she has an obsession with NPCs using a change sex spell and then making sure the PC knows about it. I'm glad she was nowhere near the writing of this game, then, because you would be beat over the head with it and there'd be a Goobergrape joke thrown in as well.

So not that bad on the woke I assume.

Is the game pretty buggy?

Personal experience so far is that weird shit can happen while fighting, like enemies vanishing, characters stuck underground, corpses flying to the moon and making it impossible to loot their content. But just like Kingmaker the story flag system is robust enough that you won't end up with story bullshitery like in elder scrolls games at launch where a dead characters comes back to life or the story thinks you killed someone who is still alive

Kingmaker had a loot option when exiting the area, is that not in this game?

It's good, the companions are pretty week build-wise though and the elf shaman noble triggers every "this character is not to be trusted" flag by being weirdly edgy and wearing an amulet of undetectable alignment that is "ha ha just a keepsake". And you can see she's CE in the level up menu when you look at the classes she can take. Some of the characters can't even be respec'd for some reason, like why would I want a melee eldritch scoundrel when cantrip sneak attacks are fun and easy.

Also maybe don't be like me and play ice elemental witch in a demon spam campaign. Eventually I'll start to ignore all the cold resist but now everything just takes -10 damage from my attacks. Planning on going Worm that Walks for Worm Clone no Jutsu though.

Also the fight at the tavern is cancer on turn based mode. Literally took an hour and a half to clear and it's just waves of 2nd level fighters with a few alchemists, a few demons and a single minotaur rape boss, I gave up on turn based eventually but I probably should have done it much sooner in the fight but muh autism.

Also worth mentioning that I lost an hour worth of progress because the game just decided not to auto save on it's own or when I camped on one of the maps because reasons.

No liking the character changes they made to Wrath of the Righteous myself, or the events. I'm also not a fan of how they made mythic abilities work. If you haven't played the adventure path several times over the years it would be a good game but for someone who really enjoyed the campaign, it just doesn't do it for me. I think the designers should have at least checked out some of the character "plugins" Legendary Games made for AP. Maybe they wouldn't have had to kill off one of the NPC's to put in another female character. Beginning of the game is just a haram.

Decided to pirate this after not getting more than 1/3 or so through Kingmaker. Not taking the chance this time.

Just got past the tavern fight. Screwed up the 1st time by forgetting to bring grease/web/etc. Got by pretty well the 2nd time.

Seems fine for now. Beginning stuff was lol-tastic, but it feels like the game has got its head on more straight now.

playing the new one and its pretty fucking woke yo. still not far yet but playing as karl tanner. gonna become a fooking legend or die trying!

If that's who I think it is, then I guess it's fine if a little cringe. I'm not that far nor done enough personnel quests to get that answer but there was foreshadowing.

Well, I'm just at the start of Chapter 3 and my overall crusade morale is plummeting because a demon invasion is supposed to spawn 1.5 years from now and crash it instead. So I can try to take things and cheat around it but there are game breaking bugs especially on the Lich path right now. Cavalier and mounts are bugged, abilities and talents are bugged (I got a blessing from Pharasma that was just straight up blank), map crashes, map stuck at 92% and the recent patch that fixed some missing models in the garrison building also introduced a bug that doesn't allow autocasting between areas now. My kinetic character and 2 mages in my group who rely on casting LV0 cantrips are screwed because every area transition or save resets it to blank.

Top left with the yellow and red banners, if I skip a day they'll all go red. You're supposed to be able to change that by taking forts, battles and not having demons lay siege to you. That last one is supposed to be green all the time unless you lose a fort so I dunno what that's about. If banners go red that means you can't recruit or receive funds, so as said, that means it's broken.

Kingmaker had a loot option when exiting the area, is that not in this game?
It's still in. Alot of stuff from Kingmaker is still in the game files if missing icons for some reason. I gave everyone belt lanterns again because it's just not adventuring unless we're color coded.

As for what path you should go, go Azata path. Not only the super powers that can grant fast healing double mythic rank, all skilled in all weapons, 20% dodge on melee and ranged attacks and zippy magic that turns single target spells into chain spells + mythic rank damage. You also get up to LV7 in cleric spellbooks casted like a witch in per day instead of needing to set them AND you get Aivu a cute dragon companion who's LV20 but can grow to LV35. Seriously, Azata is broken.

As for why you should go this path, more time in development went into this path than the others I think.
So Angel has you finding the sword and that's it, Demon is giving in or resisting rage and that's it. Trickster is pulling 1 prank and that's it. Aeon needs you to make the correct choice with the Wardstone and that's it. Lich is returning a wand and that's it.
Azata has you start off by saving some initiates of Densa who then sing to you before showing you this:

All the while the first 12 seconds of this basically giving you a reason to pick this path. Fast forward to Lost Chapel and you'll need to find the shrine of Desna kind of outside the map to recruit Arueshalae early. I had to use Lann with Dimension Hop to get down to the skill check point because the point to get down to that was missing. You communicate with Aru and proceed to Drezen where you'll find her in her cell. As someone favored by Desna, you can then sing to her as well:

And then on the walls of Drezen you finally get to pick your path, if you pick Azata like you should, Aru will say this:

I just wanted to highlight how much content the Azata path has, an initial questline in Kenabres that feeds into your main path, powerful almost OP mythic abilities and a companion chosen by a goddess of the demiplane you represent.
>Quest/Path/Companion. No other path in the game has this.

Kinda reminds me of Siren class from Borderlands, you can go Roland and his little turret if you like shooting people or Siren who can phase, corrode, burn and shock enemies like it's nothing. One is objectively better than the other.
So yeah, I'm gonna have to wait for the auto-targeting and morale bugs to be fixed. Could be up to two weeks according to the steam forums. Owlcat had 6 months of beta and I get releasing the game now, Baldur's Gate 3 comes out of EA in 3 months but they rushed releasing it again just like they did with Kingmaker. I'd wait playing for a month or two if I were you. There is some decent stuff here, even with some poz thrown in.

Arueshalae best girl.

Speaking of Baldur's Gate 3, is it worth it? I adore the first two games, especially the second, but 3 has nothing to do with them and the sourcebooks they released prior to 3 that canonized parts of the first two games really soured me on it. Still, it's Larian, and they have a decent track record.
