Keep in mind that HSE is the probably the most liberal university in Russia, so I am personally inclined to belive they did serious job investigating abuse.
Someone speculated that Alphyna is the one behind this shit, which Nikolay said is false an pruposed his suggestion on where to dig:

The girls who asked for donations got her credit card mass reported to SberBank of Russsia as ilegit fund raiser under pretence of another person.
She lost her shit and imediately offered refunds and bailed out.
