It doesn't remotely resemble what it used to, generally being aimed at some specific part of the brain. It's also usually reserved for otherwise completely intractable cases. I have no idea whether this particular guy got one of the few reversions to barbarism that currently exist, but it's pretty unlikely he had the bullshit McMurphy got like basically just hooking jumper cables to your head and blasting away.
I thought my opinion on Electro Shock had been unfairly colored by modern movies, as my impression of it was a mix of RP McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and the Mom from Requiem for a Dream at the end of the movie, but having read about it, it doesn't seem any less barbaric.
The worst part of it is its randomness, according to people I've known who had it. It did actually reset their brain out of major depression that was going to kill them, but it also deleted memories nearly at random, from all parts of their life to the point they didn't even remember major events, and also had a lot of trouble forming new memories for years later.
If you get ECT, especially multiple sessions, the aftereffects can be anything from maybe forgetting a couple minor things or a little brain fog to being absolutely fucked up and missing large chunks of your life.
That said it's still used but literally only in situations where the patient is otherwise hopeless.
I'm not saying I'd rather die than get it, but if I were presented with that choice I'm actually not sure what decision I'd make. It would take some serious thought.
Yeah from what I read its not like it used to be decades ago, but it still seems like a pretty big gamble, like a last resort when the other option is a permanent Thorazine coma.
Damn it, I've never seen a cow I've wanted to see genuinely happy and live a good life before.
Same. Patty is the type of person that makes wading through all the Nick Bates, the Kero's, the Lucas's and all the other human shit on display in the various wings of our Farm/Freakhouse worthwhile.
I like following the Gunt because he's such a car crash of a person, but Patty is the best genuine Cow since Classic Chris to make me look forward to seeing a new upload.
I genuinely haven't had as much wholesome fun laughing at a cow since Chris went insane, and I realized its because the best cows have you laughing
with them as well as
at them.
He's a such a relief from the contempt and malice buildup you can get when you spend too long following utter deviants like the Stinkditch Troons, who (with the arguable exception of Blaire White) are all absolute degenerates with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Patty's great and I find myself rooting for him, and wishing him the best in a way I haven't felt since we lost Terry.
