Boomers usually bitch about Halloween dying.... odd.
PJW is the exact kind of person CS Lewis wrote about when he talked about how one of the greatest signs of childishness is a fixation on the trappings of the adult world. PJW is very insecure about being seen as a "real, serious intellectual", so he sneers at anything that remotely looks "childish". Also, he defines himself in opposition to the "bugman/soy boy" meme, and liking holidays is part of that (although what isn't, the meme is approaching the singularity "cuck" has where it's just a word with nebulous negative affect).

I'm pretty sure the PJW believes himself to be a philosopher in the style of the Greeks. Kinda why he spergs about degeneracy and how society should have a higher duty.

You see the same with our boy Sargon.

It's weird, because I always was under the impression that SJW soy boy types hated Halloween because of "cultural appropriation" (i.e. kids dressed up like Aladdin or Pocahontas) and because the stereotypical soyboy hates things that are considered dark and "edgy", and while Halloween isn't edgy per se, it lends itself well to dark and edgy media. After all, there's a reason why so many horror movies come out in October.

Like I said, at this point the meme encompasses every form of behavior that people find annoying. Like "cuck".

They love dressing up and probably have some woke thing to say about giving away free candy. Trudeau is the model for woke and he has always loved the fun of dressing up.

Woke and "sjw" should be viewed as a set of character traits rather than as a set of ideals. PJW is a right wing sjw if anything.

Reminder he made that cringey video about how love is evil
That video reminded me of an editorial I saw by some veteran political/economic commentator in a UK newspaper some years ago. He was the usual type, receeding hairline, rectangle black-rimmed glasses that make him look bug-eyed, wiry frame, pasty and yet ruddy at the same time. Seemingly born in a suit. The subject was that friendship is not real because at his wedding, none of the invited people he considered friends showed up. My dude, just because you're so inept that you can't function as well as the average trailer-dweller doesn't mean everybody else is wrong.

Your CS Lewis quote doesn't work here, that quote refers to the bugman, the actual person who is obsessed with childish pursuits. Someone calling it out and being against that isn't that quote, right? Like people who are against pedophiles and try to track them aren't AS BAD AS pedophiles.

I don't care for PJW but you sound so fucking stupid right now trying to find a thing to be mad at here. He isn't a lolcow, this whole thread is for political fags looking for anger.

Disliking it because it's "too dark and edgy" is exactly Andrew Dobson's opinion on Halloween, funnily enough, and Dobson is the quintessential soyboy bugman.

PJW is just a grumpy contrarian who finds validation in hating on anything people enjoy.

Were the ancient civilizations that held festivals where they danced around bonfires and made offerings to spirits a bunch of childish soyboy bugmen? Or maybe it's possible that an excuse to explore the darker primal aspects of the human psyche in harmless, enjoyable ways is psychologically beneficial?

Here is the full quote:
CS Lewis said:
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
As you will notice, it is saying the exact opposite of what you are saying, and applying it to a man saying "grown men should not like Halloween because it is childish" is apt. Ignoring the rest of your post, you are showing a frightening lack of reading comprehension.

Toby Young, he who wrote 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate People '. Unlike Watson though he's actually some what self aware enough to play up his misanthropic unlikeability as his 'media brand', he's now editor of Quillette.

A retarded person trying to save the world by being retarded? Dunno, fits the bill.

A bugman is simply a person who exists to be a consumer/worker and only thinks in regards to how he may best follow trends to raise his own prestige. Liking capeshit doesn't automatically make you a bugman, hoarding capeshit junk for prestige does.

Drinking Soylent makes you a bugman- you're giving up the pleasure of food so that you may work more effectively for your corporation that really does't give a shit about you.

Owning Harry Potter but only reading the Sparknotess so that you can get those "EPIC JOKES" is not the same as actually reading the book and enjoying it.

You can do this with anything. Buying a tonne of cars because you love driving cars is great. Buying a tonne of cars to show off while you care little about cars is bugman. Reading philosophy because you like it is cool but buying the book as a shelf ornament is bugman.

Hell, the "nerd" culture is bugman depending on why you do it. Honestly liking the stuff isn't the same as liking the stuff to fit into the only group that will tolerate your presence.

I thought this guy was a coked up drunk the first time I watched him. How was this an unknown?
That said, his video shitposts can be quite entertaining.

I feel like this description goes way into the reeds with "I know the inner workings of Twitter randos and them being annoying is a sign of a deep character flaw".
Like, by this standard pretty much every Soundcloud rapper is basically a "bugman".

Paul really hates the current generation... as though Beatlemania and the druggy 60s/70s wasn't a thing.
I love how Paul tries really hard to act adult and just bitches about a lot of dumb shit. He insulted people who have emotional support pets.

The ultimate irony is that flexing about being an adult is the most childish thing someone could do and Paul does that for the entire video asserting "Look how mature I am, I'm an adult with adult tastes unlike you children" along with acting like everyone could improve their lives easier. For the last minute he somehow tries to bring up that being gay means that you're just making an identity to escape adulthood.

EDIT: Paul is touting this video as his magnum opus and acting like people doing petty crimes is a sign of the west being infantilized while his followers are quoting ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:11‬ ‭as though it makes them wise while also claiming Idiocracy is a documentary.
