"Paul Rudd Joins Ghostbusters' 2020 cast" - Oy vey

That’s why they should’ve adapted Extreme Ghostbusters it had a guy in a wheelchair that was not only competent, but funny, cool and likeable. He even fought against bigotry when a group of punks vandalized a synagogue.
It says a lot that people would take Extreme GB over FemBusters.

Imagine if the Ghostbusters had to go up against 6 million Jewish ghosts!

Note to self: a great idea for a fanfic story about Peter and the gang visiting Auschwitz.
There was an animated episode with the Ghostbusters going up against the ghost of Harry Houdini.

Funniest part was watching them jam the ghost into the trap... and then the ghost opens it from the inside and escapes again. Good times.

The trailer looks good, Sony at least finally got a good marketing department this time around
Looks more down to earth and small scale compared to 2016, kinda like the 1st two at least at the beginning acts
They are probably saving Dan and the rest of the gang for the next trailer, hope bill actually gets shit to do, he's best when there is improv and showing up late in the film limits that
over all, good showing Sony. doesn't feel like a rehash of GB1 like 2016 did, don't fuck this up you movie equivalent of Mr. Magoo
I wonder why they're not going with the "regional Ghostbuster franchisees" concept from the RPG and (some of) the comic books? Seems like that would be a good fit for Rudd given his "put-upon everyman" characters from films like Ant-Man and Role Models, and it would allow them to keep the "working stiff" blue-collar angle that was so central to the original film.🤔
I'm thinking its because IDW busters did alot with the concept that and Ramis dying probably fucked with a lot of their plans even before the reboot. Personally I think they should try to make it to where they spent a while as a government agency, doing jobs across the country, sorta like Roswell. Could explain why ghost encounters have been on the downlow since 1989 (91 if the game is still canon which considering the reference to shandor mine, it might?)
then whatever happened in the barn egon well got e gone'd fucking up the group

Even as a little kid, I thought that the Extreeeeeeme Ghostbusters having an active Ghostbuster in a wheelchair was stupid pandering.

Were they Jewish? :story:

It looks...better than I would have expected. I'm curiously interested to see the film now, at least.

Eh, if they're gonna chase the Stranger Things vibes, they should go all the way and do an 80s GB period piece. I want my ghostbusting Reagonomics, dammit! 😆

The responses on Social Media to the trailer are anomalous.

A rare few highly entertaining autists are responding with thermonuclear anger over it, but what's far more interesting has been the lack of a response by the usual suspects. Normally anything that dares besmirch the name of our lord and savior 2016 Ghostbusters gets serious flak, but there's been nary a peep from 'em on this one. Thankfully there are a few responses that suggest that this is because they're completely confused as to what to make of it, but I'll let you see for yourself:

Moviebob01.png
Moviebob02.png
Moviebob gives a full-on Googleshng about how he doesn't understand why this isn't like the 2016 movie and isn't overloaded with funny jokes, ignoring how this is how things were done in the first two movies and seemingly unaware that it's trying to do the exact opposite of the previous movie and assure the long-time fans that the series is now in good hands. He then admits some level of interest.

Dobbybear01.png
Meanwhile, Dobbybear maintains a constant vigil, ready to assail any who besmirch 2016 Ghostbusters while admitting quietly he's interested.

I'll be keeping tabs on things for the next few days, but a lot of the people you'd expect to never shut the fuck up about this have been mostly silent, and that's very curious.

I think it's simply just been too long since the last movie to do that. Also the death of Harold Ramis REALLY fucked up a lot of direct sequels. Blame Bill Murray for that one since basically everyone tried to acquiesce to his conditions except for the fucktarded ones. Murray also wanted the movie to be darker but was vetoed. The feud with Ramis over Groundhog Day was a huge catalyst. Ramis tried to reconcile for the rest of his life with Murray but Murray never accepted. So really, you can blame Murray for a lot of this.

A lot of GB 3 concepts had the team passing the torch to franchisees but when Ramis died a lot of these concepts were lost. Ramis was also a huge influence on Ghostbusters as a whole so his death was a huge blow to the franchise. While Murray might have been the star, Ramis and Akryod basically made GB what it is. (Murray has always been bitter about this. But what has that asshole not been bitter about).

So them just going with kids and the gozer/slime incident being an anomaly makes more sense. The loss of Ramis is too big to ignore so they decided to go with his daughter and grandkid. After the reboot failed entirely, they're hitting nostalgia HARD. Whether it works or not remains to be seen. They want a 'stranger things' vibe so they want to go safer.

If anything, this trailer has a far more positive reaction than Paul Faggots movie, which shit over what everyone loved.

All in all, fan service isn't a bad thing as long as it is used properly.

If you dislike this concept, blame Bill Murray who fucked up every chance at a decent sequel, never forgave Ramis over some petty bullshit and waited until he was dead to do a sequel. Fuck Murray.

What the fuck are they angry about? This movie has (apparently) a genius-level girl Egon (), a token black love interest, a token Asian kid... all it's missing is a troon, a flamboyant homo, and someone in a wheelchair. This trailer would feel a little pandering if we didn't have the awful 2016 film to compare it to.

Oh, right... they decided to be "angry" before they even saw the trailer.

Extreme Ghostbusters has them beat so no one who is a fan of the franchise should be pissed.

EDIT:
Also the super smart girl Egon is Egon's granddaughter. She's clearly taking after him. This would be disrespectful if Egon was alive, which he isn't. Also the whole film sort of revolving around Egon's family is really a great homage to Ramis himself and a sign of respect. So it hits me in the feels.

The world of Ghostbusters is just too good to go to waste, there's so much potential for so many different stories you can tell.

As iconic as the original characters are, it's the premise and world itself that are really the main appeal.

So this is exactly what they should be doing, I think it looks great, I am hyped.

I liked that too because it ties back to what you were saying about Ramis' importance to the Ghostbusters series. I feel like this is a respectful way to pass the torch because they aren't shitting all over what came before while at the same time moving forward with a new cast of characters, with the main girl actually being related to a protagonist who sadly can't return.

What I'm hoping is that the movie plays on that as a love letter to Ramis. It's fine to move in a new direction, but don't forget where you came from. That is what I want the movie to be. We'll just have to see when it comes out.

Even before the RLM guys released a video talking about it, I feared they might put Egon's ghost in at the end. I still think they will.

Is Bill Murray bipolar? I get he's difficult to work with but I'm sure most people here have heard or seen videos of him interacting with regular people. And I don't believe there's anything of him acting like an asshole to everyday people. Maybe he just hates Hollywood types? Or he's just really moody (Bill Moody).

Edit: I believe that Murray and Ramis reconciled while Ramis was on his deathbed.

I'd wager he probably is, never been confirmed as far as I know though. That or it was just really good PR moves on his part.

I think you're right about the reconciliation too, but it was a bit before he got in bad shape. I'm almost thinking they might have started talking again when the Ghostbusters video game got made if I remember right.

You can tell that they *really* wanted to use that slow piano version of the original Ray Parker Jr. song that they used in the shitty "30 years ago, 4 scientists," teaser trailer for Gurlbusters 2016. But they obviously couldn't because that was an objective failure.

I hope they fight the Ghost of Celery Man.

It's probably going to be an angel scene like that part in the GITS manga where it's alluded to but not directly shown that the afterlife exists.

Basically there's probably a redemption for Ghosts. it can be tastefully done and not be tacky.

I get major The Force Awakens vibes from the trailer. It wouldn't surprise me if JJ were secretly directing this flick. That being said, it is better than employing obnoxious feminist comedy, and the Spengler granddaughter character doesn't look unlikable. Don't care much for Wolfhard since he's just playing himself.

So far it looks okay, could be really good. It's not a bad first trailer, just somewhat generically modern.

This was pretty normal in the 90s. Captain Planet, BK Kids Club, etc. SJWs are uneducated morons who know shit about pop culture despite they get overenthusiastic whenever they see a reference from few years ago.

I know. That kind of thing was everywhere back then (and interestingly, Disney appears to be trying to revive a related theme of the time, that of "your family is what you choose it to be," as put across with all the subtlety of a Mack truck to the face in Muppet Treasure Island, James and the Giant Peach and many other productions, for its latest abortive attempt at a Star Wars movie).

As an example, I remember there was some kind of limited edition Spider-Man/Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch, not the low-riding beaner currently passing for the Spirit of Vengeance) crossover that featured a teenage girl in a rocket-powered flying wheelchair (and also some kind of Toronto Blue Jays-themed Doctor Who expy, but I digress) calling herself "Turbine."

She wasn't nearly as much of a sore thumb as Garrett, however, given that she was essentially flying around in what might as well have been a miniature helicopter gunship rather than trying to bring a normal wheelchair to a ghost-busting (which, as The Real Ghostbusters showed us, almost inevitably involves a healthy amount of stair-climbing and door-kicking).
