On funding this new expense:
Consider a quarterly paid members tier for the site similar to True & Honest but instead of getting a user tag, the incentive would be getting whatever year’s-end Kiwi Farms merch is made (like the coins, patches, etc).
Opt in, $20/quarter gets you the EOY merch. It’s not required to use the site, and not mutually exclusive with T&H. If you still want merch at the end of the year, you can still buy it outside of the tier.
I’m sure plenty of users wouldn’t mind paying like this to support the site.
If the site permanently goes down, issue a RIP Kiwi shirt that only the tier members can get.
@Null, I know payment is tricky for you sometimes, but I think this would be a great way to guarantee that you have the capital up-front to account for the added cost.

Could write up a legal contract to prevent this.someone who may dip in the middle of the night, leaving you unaware
I cannot fathom any scenario where this person stays anonymous, lol.Will whoever does this be able to stay anon? If you take this job you're gonna have an interesting time finding any other employment ever again.
