The pet dog of a three-year-girl who spent 16 hours in the elements has stayed by her side until she was found this morning.

Three-year-old Aurora reportedly told her mum she was "looking for her" when she took the family dog for a walk from their property at Cherry Gully, south of Warwick, yesterday.

The alarm was raised after the child couldn't be found about 5pm, sparking a largescale search involving SES crews and two helicopters.

Max, the family dog who is deaf and partially blind, faithfully stayed with the little girl.

Grandmother Leisa Bennett found Aurora this morning and said the dog and young girl slept together in bushes about three kilometres from where she was last seen.

Remarkably, the child's only injuries were scratches and bruises from the rugged terrain.

There were fears the child could have fallen into one of the 17 dams near the property.

Police and the family have thanked volunteers, neighbours and the community for their efforts.

Queensland Police released a photo of Max, which has been liked on Facebook more than 11,000 times in one hour.

Dogs are honestly the best creatures on Earth. Max didn't abandon his little girl and his presence probably kept her from getting too scared or lonely.

3-year-olds aren't exactly known for sound decision making.
Bullshit, when I was 3 I already had two full time jobs. Fucking kids are lazy these days!! God damn pac-man video games and New Kids on the Block!!!

This is some of the best news I've ever seen, thank you so much!

I had an old female dog that did it to her sister. Dominance thing.
Just like how I handle my dominance issues with other people. Example:

And would have started eating her if she had died.
I mean to be fair, I'd say that's a practical solution for an animal. You are dead at that point, not like it's going to hurt you. Also dogs have been documented doing the same thing to their owners when they die in the house and no one finds them for a long time. I don't blame an animal for doing it.
"Partially blind dog Max stayed with the three-year-old girl until she was found. (QLD Police)"

"shit nigga i can't see nuffin where the fuck are we"
It's like the Helen Keller of dogs if it's blind and deaf. Damn thing was like "This is the most boring walk ever. Why the fuck aren't we moving?"

Worth pointing out that some cats also protect their owners quite fiercely, anyone remember the video with the nanny that beat the shit outta some toddler and the cat going crazy mad?

Same experience but with cats, I do like cats, I just don't like owning them, I'm a dog person.
Been bitten too many times while minding my own business to own a dog ever, honestly.
I still feel the no-warning teeth in my calf any time a dog looks in my direction.

You said you wanted a feel good story, and its another one about animals having better morals than us.... I'm not sure if it's really the pick me up I was looking for...

That's because you must transpire fear and insecurity, that makes dogs nervous, the trick is not giving a shit when you're around unfamiliar dogs, or if you got a war face just show it to them.

EDIT/// Unless you're an Aussie, don't fucking do that to a dingo.

EDIT 2//// Don't wanna double post, dogs don't speak human, they check your butt your movement, you probably walk like a wounded animal if you get bitten out of the blue.

Not sure how walking to work and being unaware it's even there transpires fear but probably.

Also Max seems like a good dog 10/10 A++ material, but it's sad his owners didn't make his name a Mad Max reference.

Dogs are so pure. I love them so much.

Mine is always by my side or by my other family members. (In fact, she's sleeping by my feet as I type this.) Sometimes she'll bark when she's outside sunbathing and I swear, I think she just wanted to see me because she'll only look at me and wag her tail when I check on her. I don't know what I'd do without her.
