Ok, that confirms it, he thinks Garfield is a real living person, not a cartoon character. Like how some bronies insist My Little Pony's world actually exists in another universe.
 
I don't know what's sadder

1. A person honestly believes a cartoon character is real.

2. That person is at least three times past the age where such would be even tenuously accepted as childhood fantasy.

3. It's not even a popular cartoon character, but a washed-up franchise in a defunct medium that probably will continue to be published only to keep it's IP rights alive.

4. All of the above, at once, are true.

Actually, what's more amusing to me is the idea that the contributors to Square Root of Garfield have put far more thought, creativity, and passion into Garfield than Guerin ever did. Guerin just made a tweet asking people to "stand with Garfield". Not too many people hopping on that bandwagon, sadly...
 
Even Jim Davis thought Garfield Minus Garfield was funny.... or at least found it "fascinating".

That's right, the comic's CREATOR doesn't give a tenth of a shit as much about it as this guy does.

Bil Keane had a pretty good sense of humor about all those Family Circus parodies as well. A lot of comic creators aren't as thin-skinned as Peter here.
