Piece of shit software - Crappy software/apps/programs that make you MATI

I just had to download another version of Calculator because the one that comes with Windows 10 got corrupted and stopped working. The Photos app also did this a few weeks ago, forcing me to switch over to fucking third party software. At least with the calculator I was able to just get the Windows XP one off of the Internet Archive, but come on!

You should be able to do a repair. If a repair fails/can't be done you can do a "refresh" which should restore them to functioning order. If that fails, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the components. If that fails, you can either live with it or just reinstall windows from scratch.

You're old if: You remember when HP products were good.
You're really old if: You're surprised that HP has been bad longer than it was ever good.
Technically HP was founded in 1939 and the DeskJet 540 was last sold around 1996, only 26 years ago. Although, I guess it's still true in terms of life experience unless you're at least a baby boomer.

I used Webroot for years, but then they pulled this shit:
This explains why the computers at my day job no longer have Webroot. I went to use the secure file shredder that came with Webroot and it was noticeably absent from the context menu. Now I know why.

The combination of Software as a Service (SaaS) and subscription pricing has allowed bigtime software developers and vendors to make more money while the software they sell seems to have less useful functionality over time.

Every single free DVD error checker tool I used didn't work. Handbrake can rip DVDs with relative ease, but very few pieces of software can properly check the playability of a DVD.
Try MakeMKV, it's free and rips them to a mkv container(MP4 can't do MP2 video/audio) without re-encoding anything. It's the original DVD in a modern format.

I finally decided to make the jump to Linux on a small PC we have at the jig and guess what I did first after Mint was ready: Install one of the HP printers as a test. I plug it in, the system detects it, less than a minute of wait and a notifications tells me that the fucker is ready to work. I also send the test page and it came without a hiccup.

WHY WAS SO GODDAMN HARD TO DO THIS ON WINDOWS?!

Vanguard anticheat is the worst piece of shit ever, it's so annoying that certain programs like the Haxe compiler will outright shit itself when it's installed as it operates as a kernel driver, I didn't even notice the problem was the anticheat until I searched why GetThreadContext was constantly failing. Fuck Riot Games for making such ass anticheat

Is there even a good anti-cheat software?

Ubuntu. I installed it on my PC around a year ago and found it to be extremely buggy and unpolished. Keep in mind, I was using it on a system with the most generic ass hardware possible (Intel CPU, Intel HD Graphics, Intel WiFi card, etc.) and yet it still fucked up every few minutes. Every other time I would try to install software the store crashed and I had to do it manually via the command line. The UI also freaked out a lot, which is pretty unusual since GNOME (despite being hated) is normally rock-solid, Ended up giving up and installed Fedora instead. I really don't know what the hell happened. I had a better experience with fucking Linux Mint (and that's not even made by a big company).

I had a really bad experience with ubuntu as well, one problem was the internet would only work 50% of the time forcing you to reboot. I ended up switching to Manjaro when I got a new PC and it's been pretty reliable besides me occasionally messing something up and having to use the virtual terminal to fix it. If you asked me to tell you the difference between Ubuntu and Manjaro besides the desktop environment and package manager I couldn't tell you, but I would definitely say to go with xfce4 instead of gnome next time.

for me, i ran ubuntu 18.04 off an sd card temporarily on a laptop because the hard drive is dead, it somehow worked fine and didn't screw with me although that could have been pure luck

No. Anti-cheat software is conceptually DRM and therefore the same scam as anti-virus software: It can't work for fundamental reasons, so the deal goes to whoever can put up the most convincing smoke and mirrors. The suckiness for the poor sap whose machine is running it is a feature - "See, it's doing something!"

That's a much worse experience than I've ever had with Ubuntu, though it kinda makes sense.

Canonical have a bad habit of adding whatever filth Red Hat have shat out into their systems, though without integrating it with the rest of their system (that just piggybacks off the work of individual Debian maintainers) properly. The Linux Mint guys do great work making Ubuntu usable.

Goddamn Windows 10 removed Qbittorrent without my permission after an update. I was able to reinstall it with no issue but that was a bastard move.
>windows defender
>malware accusing other softwares of being malware
FOR THE LAST TIME WINDOWS DEFENDER, PYTHON AND THE KALI ISO ARE NOT VIRUSES
Funnily I researched around and this piece of shit is to blame and qbittorrent is classed as PuA and removes it w/o confirmation. Fuck you Microsoft, may the Bangladeshi sex spambots overwhelm your support email and forums in the future.

Is this something recent?
I've never experienced this issue but i've had my updates paused for 10 months and i'm wondering if I should update now because im afraid what windows will surprise me with.
Will I have to exclude python and qbittorrent like a savage if i update?

I noticed that normal things have been treated like viruses lately. It's annoying when they remove a file from a thing I am trying to download. On this computer alone. It was a hassle to get OpenRCT2 working because the computer kept deleting the files because it's apparently a virus when it really isn't. They even treat genuine games that I bought as viruses. For example removing a file that came with the installation of the game Be-reave Secondary fucking up the whole game. I also remember the software also treating Sayonara o Oshiete as a virus because apparently anything made in 2001 is a virus. I also really hate it when American computers aren't designed to read Japanese letters unless you change the locale settings. That's what made trying to get the game Be-reave Secondary to work as such a pain in the ass as creating a folder for this just reads ??????? and other gibberish. Also, that game Renaissance released in 2001 I noticed the buttons on the top also read gibberish as it gives up trying to read Japanese all together. It also annoys me when I get weird file types which is usually the case when I try to play Innocent Eyes.

Why the fuck can't microsoft make any software that isn't a piece of shit? I use Outlook for work and it's got so many little irritating issues. Literally every other day it will stop updating my folders and I will have to close the program. That's not enough though, because if you try to open it again nothing will happen. So you have to open task manager and end the outlook process that is still open and then re-open it. So I have to check my email multiple times a day not to see incoming emails, but to make sure that the folder is updating for me to get emails.

Another niggling issue, I'll be cleaning out my inbox going email by email, deleting them one by one. Then suddenly an email I haven't even clicked on yet lower down in the list just disappears. Where did it go? Who knows. What email was it? I don't know. Was it important? I hope not. Will I ever see it again? I hope so.

Also, the software that you use if you have gamepass on PC is so irritating. I'm not even sure what it's called now but before it was called "Xbox Companion App" or something like that, which is retarded if it's also used for PC games. You'd think Microsoft would be aware that people play games on PCs. It's unresponsive, you get weird ass issues that make no sense like when you click play game for a game you already have installed it will inexplicably open the windows store. And how hard is it to make a search bar that works!? I'm searching the exact title of the game and it's not coming up WHAT THE FUCK

Finally, why is the taskbar autohide still annoying as fuck even on Windows 11 in 2022? I have no notifications, hide the damn bar so I can click this shit at the bottom of the window I have open.
