I am not entirely convinced it's in Merida. The street he showed was both very wide with not much on the other side of the road. If you look through Merida it's mostly narrow streets that are densely packed. If he's in Merida, it's probably the very far outskirts. He could also be in one of the smaller cities/towns in the Yucatan outside of Merida.

He was better off in Casa Verde. Now I'm speculating but Casa Verde should of had a wide variety of ISPs, police patrols should be normal, and crime at a minimum.

Usually in new colonies, police patrols are more limited, certain services are harder to get (Uber Eats, certain ISPs, Amazon), and crime (don't think cartel violence, think more like vandalism, burglary, mugging) could be an issue. Now I'm not a betting man, but I'm willing to bet he is renting a one story house, paying somewhere in the ballpark of $6,000 to $8,000 pesos ($347 USDs to $462USDs), that's if he didn't get the old AirBNB again.
