Many moons ago Ancestry.com let people use their military records for free on veteran's day or something. My last name has 2 different spellings (one with a U, one with an I), I found both last names in POW camps on both sides in the civil war. I'm also in a border state so it wasn't that surprising at all. This is not at all unusual. The geneaology fags in my family have confirmed my ancestors fought on both sides, including possibly brothers fighting on opposite sides of the same battle. Also I am related both to the Hatfields and the McCoys.
