Reddit's gotten a lot worse in just about every way since the Google deal. I asked there about scraping videos from Amazon Prime (gonna look into Streamfab) and making those videos available to others. I was met with "no one would want your torrents anyway". They talk about the importance of preserving media yet discourage people from contributing to the cause. The whole reason I want to get those videos from Prime is because I can't find the entire series elsewhere, just a few individual episodes. The demand for a decade-old Disney Channel show that ran for 2 seasons is pretty low. That's why I'm having trouble finding it. They really do want their hobby to be an exclusive club. It's not really about Amelie. They want to have an in-joke and feel like they're part of a community. If it's not Amelie it's other random memes about ISP letters and suchlike. Piracy doesn't actually lend itself well to creating a tight-knit social group so it's forced and kinda gay, particularly among redditors who don't have other friends and communities.
