I only got into piracy last year when I started copying my DVDs to a hard drive. and wanted higher-quality copies of my favorite movies than what HandBrake had to offer. Kinda wish I'd just torrented all 200+ horror titles, but the DVD rips took up less space on my hard drive. Still barely touched my non-horror titles.
Always check if there's a Blu-ray out first, especially if you're into horror. 5GB HEVC or 8GB AVC for a 90 minute rip is good enough for me, but I will download 20GB if every other release is below that. Most new transfers look fantastic and the difference between a well shot 80s movie and anything shot digitally in recent years is night and day, let alone old DVDs. This one is from Bride Of Re-animator (1990). I love how natural it looks. I HATE how dark and fake looking new movies are.

who seeds what they can of Anna's Archive's torrents?
i have a handful of laptop drives (probably 2-3tb) that aren't being used so i'm just downloading torrents and playing my small part.

if anyone is interested i'll drop torrent names here
Update: I have fallen ill thanks to the crotch goblins at my siblings school, so I will resume my journey to archive what I can once I feel better.

@Hakase Shinonome nigga FUCK you for the horrifying reaction i just revived bros dead torrent
can't do that now HUH?!
only joking bro love u no homo
You're not the only one in this thread who's helped me. @Almighty Space Duck hooked me up with some TV shows I mentioned earlier itt. Wish I'd found this thread sooner. Would've saved me some Reddit retardation.

eta: I'm ready to scream. I have 59 torrents running for one title and ALL of them are stuck "downloading metadata". 2 more are stalled at 0.0%.
That reminds me: I have noticed that for some reason my QBtorrent is slower than molasses for no apparent reason. I tried fixing it by unlocking ports or whatever, but no dice. It's a recent development. Only for the torrent, not for regular webpages nor Emule. Any ideas?

Do you use a VPN? If so, can you forward ports on it? Do you have the correct network interface selected in Options - Advanced?

Done. Still kinda pissed the damned file is 9.83G. That's almost 10x the size of damn near every other film in me collection.
Install Handbrake. Go to preferences and uncheck "Use ipod friendly extension".

Click Dimensions tab. Turn off Auto-Crop and set "Anamorphic" to "Loose"

Load your obese video file and set the "Height" value to 720 or 1080 (720p or 1080p as desired)

Click "Add to Queue" and then "Start"

Compare the size of the result and be amazed!

There is much more you can do, but that will give you a good idea where to start. Some of the biggest niggers I run into with fatass video files is uncompressed video (MPEG-2/BD) in a mp4/mkv container, audio tracks in formats like FLAC, extra languages I don't need and motherfucking cocksucking PGS subtitles.

For added configuration I'd recommend going to the Video tab and changing the Framerate (FPS) from 30 to 'Same as source' with Constant Framerate ticked, changing the Encoder Options preset to 'slow' and changing the Quality RF scale from 22 to 23.

The last part is more down to personal preference (it works for me most of the time) and what the initial quality is to begin with but this Handbrake page gives some better details on what works best.

Or you don’t install a faggot-ass program and go with ffmpeg instead.

Bash:
ffmpeg -i input.mkv -map 0:a -map 0:v -vf fps=24,scale=-1:1080 -b:v 2M -b:a 192k -c:v libx264 -c:a m4a output.mp4

You can also save space by removing any black bars with the crop attribute. Some retarded films put add black bars into the video file itself to make them 16:9 or 4:3 compliant, retarded.

Just browsing some shows I've torrented and found something... interesting that came with The Secret World of Alex Mack:

For some context, this is The Secret World of Alex Mack:

The chemical that gives Alex her powers, GC161, was a drug that allowed you to eat anything you want without gaining weight. Alex was showered in millions of doses' worth of the stuff. Just thought I'd mention that given the current Ozempic craze.

There's so much fucking ASCII art in the document:
