if we ignore where this dude lived, running these services is completely and utterly pointless. you can't make a living from them, all you're doing is painting a massive target on your back. when you offer things publicly, genuinely publicly (filehosting, email etc) it's not a matter of if CSAM gets uploaded, it's WHEN. and even if you have the stomach to verify and remove it.... what's the point?

What other anti-privacy, anti-anonymity perspectives would you like to share? Child abusers and freaks exist, and if you run non-KYC services then you are willingly enabling CSAM? Ban crypto because evil people use it, right?

I'm just sharing my experience from running these kinds of things. If the only thing you can draw from that is "ban crypto because evil people use it" then nothing i say is going to change your mind anyway.

Instead i'd challenge you to run one yourself for 3 months and then come back and tell me how totally wrong i am.

edit; i went to check the lain.la blog because he runs a large pomf instance and is very much pro privacy, his posts are transparent and make for good reading. well it turns out he shut it down just a few months ago because of a few reasons but notably 'An ever increasing influx of illegal material evading my defenses.'
if you want to hear it from the horses mouth, just ask null why he doesn't run an imageboard.

You said it is pointless. You said you can't make money off them. Is that what matters? Do you think anonymizing email services are pointless because they do not make money? Do you think catbox is pointless? They are constantly fighting CSAM. And what about dump.li? Do they only have purpose because they make money from darknet vendors and phisher advertisers?

Null has a massive target on his back running KiwiFarms. Null also has bigger things to worry about than running an imageboard, which would be pointless.

it's not the only thing that matters but how long are you going to pay to offer anonymous use of services you provide?
if you're already spending time writing code, maintaining the infrastructure, replying to and verifying abuse reports and having to verify and remove the actual illegal material - all while paying out of your own pocket for the privilege then maybe you can explain to me what the point is?

Put your money where your mouth is and go do it chief, I tried, you can try too - it's very simple. buy a domain and install nginx. install mailinabox or roundcube and whatever else you want to run. You really can just go do things.

And that's not the only issue. Russia loves messing with Germany so when you make an anonymous communication platform like that in Germany, you're effectively behaving in a treasonous manner since you're helping a dangerous country take advantage of a stupid country who's citizens won't stop harming others unless everything is censored.
 
It sucks that this happened to a privacy respecting service, but man, you were retarded to use these domains in a country like Germany that rivals UK in censorship. Also its not even in good taste.
